Newbie On The Lookout For A Sewing Machine For Bags
Techsew Ron replied to aleejelly's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
cylinder arm, walking foot machine would be best for this project. cylinder would help you sew inside the bags and into hard to reach areas. techsew 2700, cowboy cb227r, i think artisan sells one too. -
The 3650HD can use up to size #346 thread and #27 (aka 250) needle. Ron

There are some fixes but there is no real perfect solution to completely get rid of the foot marks using your machine. In order to feed, your machine requires a feed dog with teeth to grip and pull the leather into the machine. a walking foot machine features needle feed and alternating presser feet to avoid leaving marks. Ron

Yes, the parts are interchangeable and it will sew up to about 3/8". Ron
-
yes. compound feed = compound walking foot = triple feed = unison feed.

Another T5100 Issue...save Me From My Poor Stupid Self!
Techsew Ron replied to MadMorbius's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hi Rob, emailed you this morning. Try re-tightening the pressure, add some oil. Also like Wizcrafts mentioned it's possible the chain might have gotten snagged preventing the foot from returning back down. Give us a call if you need further assistance. Ron -

Techsew 5100 Problem , Speed Reducer Seizing?
Techsew Ron replied to MadMorbius's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Ok after looking into this with one of our technicians it looks like this is a defective reducer. Sometimes despite all the testing in the world new parts can run into issues like this. You can put it aside for now, we're sending out a replacement today free of charge. Apologies for the inconvenience! Call us if there's anything else you need. Ron -
As mentioned earlier in this thread you should probably be looking at a walking foot machine. For wallets and belts you should consider the Techsew 2700 which uses up to 210 thread. We have a swing down roller edge guide and flatbed table attachment available. If you want one machine that can sew everything (wallets, belts, holsters and more) take a look at the Techsew 5100. Feel free to contact us any time if you need some advice! Ron

Probably A Stupid Question...machine Weight
Techsew Ron replied to MadMorbius's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Shipping weight is about 325 pounds, this includes the pallet, all items and all packing materials. Each item can be lifted off the back of the truck (this is a 2 person job), or you can choose tailgate service where they will lower the pallet to the ground level for you. Machine head weighs about 150 lbs., table unit about 130 lbs. Machine head is packed in a padded box for secure shipment. Ron -
Just sent you a copy of the manual via private message. Enjoy! Ron

Need Help Finding The Right Machine.
Techsew Ron replied to eri s's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Do not buy an "industrial strength" machine found on ebay to sew leather items. These are not leather sewing machines and will not perform anything close to the way you need or the way they are presented. You need a walking foot machine like the Consew 206RB-5 you found on craigslist. If you're purchasing a used machine make sure to go try it first. Sponsoring dealers on this website who sell similar machines: - Cowboy sewing machines - Leather machine co. - Techsew sewing machines Good luck in your search! Ron -
Folks around here will recommend using bonded nylon thread for most leather projects. There are a number of suppliers including the advertisers of LW.net, you'll find some banner ads on the top of this page. Ron

Choosing The Right Sewing Machine Is Overwhelming!
Techsew Ron replied to Twisted B's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Everyone has a budget to work with and this is why many companies offer machines in different price ranges. Having said that you definitely want to invest in a machine that will last you years as opposed to one that may save you some money in the short term but end up costing you more over time due to breakdowns and repair costs. There are a number of resources available on this website that you should read, and dealer sponsors can be found along the banner section on the top of this page who will be happy to answer your questions. If you're buying local, take some sample leather with you and make sure the machine performs as you would like it to. If you're buying from an out of state company you can send some samples by mail and have them do some testing for you to make sure you've got the right machine. Best of luck in your search! Ron -
2 layers of 6-9oz should be fine however adding a 3rd layer would be pushing the machine a bit beyond its capabilities as a medium weight machine. The next step up would be the Techsew 5100 which will have no problem whatsoever sewing your bags. Feel free to contact us if you need any more information. Ron
