  1. Thanks for the reply & info. IMO there’s more positives than negatives in relation to Tapatalk due to its wider audience, I fully understand and respect others viewpoints on the subject however when I first started in leatherwork I was gobsmacked of how little amount of publications were available in leatherwork, hence why I’m glad this site/forum become available. I’m not against rooted or jail broken devices & I’m aware it does have its fan base for the unrestricted user, however for the general end user then Tapatalk is a asset & more importantly to promote the site overall (increase web traffic too) then another social platform for leatherworker.net should be embraced or at least considered. lastly, in relation to uploading images for critique and troubleshooting I’ve found Tapatalk just as easy to use as the other forums I’m a member of. just my tuppence worth.
  2. Well due to further frustration of acquiring a HD table with no success I’ve decided to use the current scrap wood laying around to build a table frame, my woodwork skills are lousy but my current work space is irritating me Beyond belief. Will be shopping for a hard top tomorrow to complete phase 1.
  3. I carried out a search & apart from the subject of a mobile app will the site admin consider Tapatalk option at all? (or is it case of economics) genuinely curious.
  4. Yes agreed, i think I need remedial stitching lessons with my speedy stitcher. @OP nice work.
  5. Without being shot down by the ‘masters’ on here, here’s my take on it as it’s not within my field. I would have considered using pin nails to position/retain the leather joints. I’d make sure I’d explore all options in reference to specific glue for this job. use scrap leather offcuts to practice prior to the actual job lastly, wait on here for an alternative better answer ;-)
  6. For me, in order of priority & need. Space. Improved HD table. plenty of light, artificial or otherwise. everything I’ll just make it up in a trial & error methodology until a workable solution is found and stick to what works for me.
  7. Have you tried AA Crack in Northampton? http://www.aacrack.co.uk/leather-type/exotics.html
  8. Inspiring & quality looking craftsmanship.
  9. To be fair, and having spoken to people within the industry & being realistic in order to achieve such an extensive digital catologue I'm fully aware that my options via copyright free will be limited at best. I will pay for the right type of catologue if it suits my requirements and fit for purpose, I'm certainly not begrudging others work and willing to aquire it properly, as it will be a long term worthwhile investment so I'm not aiming to skimp and be frugal on the issue. However, some images are copyright free the catologue size will be limited, I want to aquire the catologue with peace of mind, however sourcing these images is proving challenging and more than one supplier is highly likely. if anyone has any pointers or recommendations these are warmly welcomed.
  10. Your generous offer is duly noted & if my own methods fail to materialise then it’s another option thanks. I did start a thread in the computer section reference acquiring a copyright free digital image catalogue for my laser engraving so it’s another tasking for 2018. (long story short, military cap badges*, police & fire brigade badges, custom motorcycle and coat of arms images) *UK & European to start
  11. My makers mark looks good in my head however I'm struggling to source any kind of original template or stamp due to it being that unique, old & quirky (Scottish coat of arms) Basically I've two choices, either search the web for a non-copyright image to freely use/edit for my laser engraver & do it that way (easiest once I've aquired the image) or get a blacksmith or metal worker to design a complete original stamp.
  12. To all, excuse thread revival but I thought it was warranted, well my ‘working’ workspace is currently the inside size of British tradition telephone box (please see show your workshop thread) However my table requires upgrade so seeking ideas as my head is scrambled, I do have the option of our modern mini drop leaf kitchen table, however it’s still not sturdy enough for my needs (I’m fussy) I’m considering bolting it to wall but avoided if I can. So I’m considering seeking an old sewing machine table, the ones which are heavy due to be being fit for purpose however I’m open to any suggestions that’ll fit within the confines of my area, my word working skills aren’t an option either.
  13. I’m in envy at your workspace, complete with window at eye level. nice.
  14. Thanks, magnetic knife racks have multiple uses and cheap, closet space it’s definitely work in progress however I’m planning on a taller desk.
  15. Due to current circumstances this must be a challenger for those most compact work space (not shop). hope this works as I'm alien to this phone at the best of times.
  16. Much appreciated, the more options the better. i've no problem purchasing the specific digital images catalogue it's just narrowing the focus of where to initially source them in the first place.
  17. Really interesting and knowledgeable thread, identifying so many different areas and narrowing the focus (I've disipline) certainly appears a significant key factor. I'm fortunate enough to have direct MOD & equestrian contacts (family and professional level) although that's only one aspect I have in my favour, which I aim to use and exploit where applicable. my primary focus is a combination* of the following: small woolen decorative accessories small leather goods, the list is endless but the discipline has not been fully set. laser engraving. * partner does hand made wool brooches (poppies etc) a lot to think and consider.
  18. Another +1 for expedition portal. Very useful global forum. I hope to become part of the overland community once I find my ideal LR Discovery 4 (commercial).
  19. Thanks for the reply, and yes understandable reference the copyright issue and looking at alternative sources other than my manufacturers recommendations. Clipart is another option although purchasing a digital catalogue for my SD card is my overall aim.
  20. Understandable, I’m going to eventually attempt a similar style on my Bonneville Speedmaster. just need a template.
  21. Very nice. The centre fitmemt brown bags still ok to ride with?
  22. Unsure if I’m in the minority, part of my leatherwork is laser engraving however I’m consistently seeking value for money (or free) web sources to improve images etc. ideally none that are linked to spam etc would help.
