  1. I would guess you'll have to have picture frame corners. Either 45 deg, or 90 deg. With that stamp I haven't seen anyone go around a corner. I've seen large circles done with that as part of the border. but not turning a corner. Maybe someone with more experience will stop by. charlie
  2. You didn't mention how many coats of dye you used. When doing black I usually do at least 2 good coats. then buff the hell out of it to help with color rub off with use. With some black dye jobs I find dying another color(dr brown/dr blue) first will give a blacker black. cleaning before dying is something i always do. charlie
  3. I really think it would help to have the model undress for a precise fit. charlie
  4. the only black belt i made, i dipped in black oil dye. let dry and buff & buffed & buffed. until no more black rubbed off on the rag. then a coat of neat lac. the only solution I've found for rub off is elbow grease. sometimes I dye dark brown before black, i think it makes for a darker black and more even coloring. charlie
  5. My wife and I really like this. Nice detail work. We would like to see it if you finish it out. What size is the carving? charlie
  6. Maybe if you could explain the logo or in general what products are made ,something could be added in the background that would tie in or compliment the logo. charlie
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item335c7f2ffb I use one of these. you still need to edge the leather and it runs around 1750 rpm's. I find it works better if you dampen the edge of the leather before applying the burnish wax. On off switch no foot petal. I also have some I can mount in the drill press some bought from someone on the forum and some homemade from wooden thread spools covereds with canvas. saddle soap and glycerin bar soap. Off subject but related is the best procedure on burnishing you'll find. http://leatherworker.net/Bob%20Park/Finishing%20Edges.pdf charlie
  8. Well you say your using satin finish, For a nice gloss I use Saddle Lac/Neat lac. Fiebing's Leather Sheen Acrylic Spray. Theirs other stuff with waxes and elbow grease to get a nice shine. charlie
  9. I concur with the others(I'm still learning) proper casing, swivel knife depth. And don't be afraid to whack a little harder with your choice of whacking instruments. Also once your getting your main depth of your object, then as your adding your detail work will be where I'll start backing off with the maul to give it some depth-3D. One more thing I'm sure you'll read elsewhere is the 3 p's-Practice, Practice, Practice.

  11. I've had the Boss for around 11 months, and no problems with mounting screws. I switch between the flat bed and the Material guide maybe once a month. charlie
  12. I got mine from http://www.campbell-bosworth.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/1_69_109 charlie
  13. Wow the amount of information is almost overwhelming. Someone spent some time doing that. charlie
  14. Joet-I read your post a couple of times ,and really appreciate the sharing of how you cope and learn to deal with limitations. I do try to plan on things(ya it's a big list) I want to make and design and will have to learn what my new limitations are going to be. I remember when I first tried leather working my only regret was not knowing about it 30/35 years ago. I found out how relaxing and peaceful like I felt in the workroom and the pride of something hand made.I've never been to a show, almost made it to Mich City last week but wasn't up to it. But look forward to going to one. This is a great forum to be a member of with so many talented people willing to share their experience and knowledge. Thanks go out to you and Penden charlie
  15. Are you asking about western style or IWB/OWB. If it's western style some are low slung or worn at a slight angle which would be a longer belt. charlie
  16. A little more info needed. Like what the brand looks like. charlie

  18. Made it larger and lace in a custom design? Don't forget to do a matching one on the other side so they match. charlie
  19. Looks very nice. Is it laced on the inner edge also? charlie
  20. Very nice design. look forward to the finished pic's. charlie
  21. Here I sit with the nerve block starting to were off. He removed bone spurs did some scraping on the shoulder joint. Cut the bicep tendon and lowered it down with screws(same procedure as the left shoulder). It's worse for me this time because I'm right handed.Hydrocodone sucks for pain relief. I've been off work since mid August, and have to be back by mid August this year or lose my job.On top of all this I take care of my disabled wife(she had a stroke in 2001 & various other surgery). I feel like such a fool for investing so much money into leather working tools. i thought I had finally found something I really enjoyed and haven't been able to make more than 1 knife sheath in the last 9 months. I know this sounds like "poor me" but typing somehow eases the pain. Typing left handed with one finger makes it take longer to. My only hope I can get back to work in time(for insurance). We don't have light duty work so it has to be a full release from the Dr. charlie
  22. I have seen some belts that were one layer and the guy used the stitching wheel with some pressure and did not sew it. It did give the effect of stitching without the thread. It really didn't look to bad. charlie
  23. " ran the dressing hide I took back through a massive roller type tool that beat the hell out of the leather" maybe it loosened up the layers of leather that when waxed and rubbed caused this. I'm only guessing. charlie
  24. Another one who not wanting to add fuel to the fire-but, would you also add in those that make knife sheaths? No trigger finger other finger to worry about. Cross draw/behind the back/hip carry/normal position sheaths. All of these have the same potential for going wrong. I do leather as a hobby not a business. Yes I've made a holster and various knife sheaths. I guess the possibility of someone pulling a wallet I made and dropping it, then tripping over it and blame me because I made the wallet is possible. Once I make the move from hobby to business then I'll get insurance to cover it. charlie i did google"holster makers sued" results Results 1 - 10 of about 70,100 for holster makers sued. (0.17 seconds) lots of strange stuff out their http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=988087 it does happen http://forums.officer.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-112097.html design change because cops were shotting themselves in the foot. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2343934/posts part way down trigger guard blamed http://www.ocregister.com/articles/chavez-223315-gun-holster.html kid shoots cop
