  1. Mike, may I inquire, what method do you use to ensure that the holes for the thread are dyed?
  2. Gary, that's exactly what was done. I just enjoy using the newly acquired set of 3 steep bevelers. The difference in result in comparison with the usual is simply striking. Especially when it's necessary to pass sharp angles. Need a little for Happiness
  3. Thank you, @bikermutt07! I hope that I will not spoil this when dyeing - it will be very insulting. But in any case, I will add photos here as the work progresses.
  4. Finally, I got the figure bevelers and decided to try them out. It will be a women's wallet. Leather 3-4 oz. Pattern did in CorelDraw. I photographed several dozen roses on my wife's flower bed, hop were photographed in the garden. The pattern is composed on the basis of fragments of 6 photo. Composition took some time. But seemingly it looks like natural (it seems so to me ). I would be very grateful for comments, criticism and advice.
  5. I'm afraid that this trade operation will be extremely unprofitable for you
  6. Mike, if you suddenly have nowhere to put some of your tools, you can send them to me I do not claim to a swivel knife made of snag
  7. Unaccustomed for me. So I wrote that this is my subjective opinion. Perhaps, "peculiar" has some negative meaning, but I do not know the nuances of the English language so well. If so, then I want to clarify that I did not mean "bad."
  8. I bought it a few weeks ago. Impressions are twofold. On the one hand, there is useful and interesting information, besides, in addition to the book, he gives several mini-lessons by e-mail. On the other hand, a somewhat peculiar presentation of material ... Although the latter can be my subjective opinion. In any case, I believe that its $ 20 it is probably worth it. At least I did not feel disappointed. PS. This is really introduction. Do not expect a full course of study.
  9. Mark, believe me, my first attempt to make a lion carving after reading "Al Stohlman-Finesse Figure Carving" was not a spectacle for the faint of heart To say that now I am completely satisfied with the result is also not true. I've seen some works on the Internet, compared to which my works look like a pitiful work. But art is work and practice and I hope that someday I will achieve results that are really worthy of those compliments that I read here.
  10. I do this: 1. Trim the edge with a sharp knife. 2. Paint the edge with the same alcohol dye as the grain side of the leather. 3. Apply tragacanth gum or saddle soap. 4. Put a leather on a granite slab. 5. Take a stacked a few layers of cotton cloth (this provides the rigidity of the edge of the cloth). 6. Holding the leather with fingers one hand, moving the cloth over the slab and pressing it lightly against the edge of the leather, perform a burnishing. 7. Turn over leather and repeat step 6. It should be ensured that the cloth does not go far on the top of the leather. It is optimal if only the edge of the leather and the edge of the folded cloth are in contact. Note. Use a thin cloth. I'm using a piece of an old white T-shirt. I hope that despite my awful English, I managed to convey the essence.
  11. Thank you, Sheila! Line below the edges on pocket made with edge creaser (not sure if this is the correct name) - like this: The edge is not turned over. I'm not strong in this yet.
  12. Thank you, Jeff! I myself liked how I made paws. Over them I had to work a little Thank you!
  13. Thank you for compliment! Thank you! You overestimate me. My ears and cheeks are flushed with embarrassment
  14. I'm use very steep beveler (on photo my selfmaded stamp) and modeling spoon. And swivel knife, but after beveling - only for last strokes.
  15. Al Stohlman's books help me a lot. I am amazed at how much this man was multifaceted and purposeful.
  16. Thank you, Gary. Honestly, before I became interested in working with the leather year ago, I had absolutely nothing to do with art. From the word - in general My main specialty is the programmer of embedded systems. This is far enough from drawing and art (if, of course, do not consider programming as an art). It seems to me that in any of us sleeps artist . You just need to wake him up
  17. Mens bifold wallet with coin pocket. Veg tan leather 4 oz for cover, 2-3 oz for pocket.
