I was out and about yesterday and popped into a restaurant for lunch. Right as I walk in this commercial comes on! Kind of cool seeing it out in the real world! Congrats again! Andy

That is fantastic! Best part is how much screen time your suit got! Congratulations!

New Wallet...
AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks all! Yes for paper money. I didn't realize it until now but the photo of the wallet folded is sitting upside down so you can't see the opening. I kept the liner the same length as the back, it bunched a little as I was in a rush and didn't let the cement dry overnight. When I make these I'll of course slow down a bit and do it right. ;-) Thanks Tom! -
These look pretty great for your first ever attempt! Good job and welcome to the craft. For rounded corners I use a 1" fender washer and cut around it with my X-Acto knife. Works like a charm for now until I get some dies made up. Cheers, Andy

New Wallet...

Thanks! Thanks Cheryl! I used EcoFlo Java brown and sponge antiqued it with some black. Finished with a bit of Resolene. I kind of did this one up really quick so my stitching will be better on the final product. Just kind of wanted to get one done to make sure the size was good. I'm really liking this one. I'm going to do a second where the card slots are horizontal too. -
Hey all, I made this little guy last week and have been using it to make sure I got it right. So far so good! Just a couple of minor tweaks I want to do before offering them up for sale. A standard bi-fold wallet, four card slots and a cash pocket. 4/5oz back with 2/3oz guts. I lined the cash part with black pigs king too. Waddy a think? It's my first wallet so I had to do a lot of thinking about how to make it. Cheers, Andy

Thanks for all the great options! I sell mainly through Etsy and now they offer an option to print shipping labels with postage. No added charges or monthly dues required either. I did buy a scale too. So far so good! Andy

Nice! I mean really nice! I love your color choices and overall design. Thanks for sharing. Andy -
Try Sav Mor out here in Los Angeles. They have antique brass, antique silver(!), and brushed silver snaps. Good guys too! http://savmorleather.com/ Andy

Nice work on this man! I've been thinking hard on how to go about moving my burnisher from my cordless drill to a more hands free setup. This is great! Now to hunt for a used motor. Side note: Thanks for the info on your shop press mod. I got mine all squared away yesterday and can't wait to start using it. Need to get my dies made up. Thanks, Andy

I make little tabs that loop through one side of a rectangular ring. These then stitch down onto the flap of my bags. I like to use the rings as they act as a hinge of sorts, extend the hand away from the bag so knuckles don't rub, and they just look nice! I like to rivet and stitch for strength and aesthetics as well.

Wow! Cool effect for sure. I love when people repurpose tools.

Thanks guys for the input. I've been so busy making orders that it has been hard to find time to investigate shipping options. Definitely not going Stamps.com route... regular USPS account seems the easiest option for me.

Hey all, I've been looking into getting a stamps.com service set up as going to the Post Office and waiting in line is starting to get tiresome. Has anyone used their service on here for shipping out packages? I visited their Facebook page and WOW! a lot of negative feedback from unhappy customers. I don't think I want to sign up for their service after reading some of the posts. Read 'em and weep: https://www.facebook.com/stamps.com Anyway, what are alternatives that don't cost a lot or have a hassle? Cheers, Andy

AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Haha! Thanks a lot! Guess ill have to make one fit a 17". ;-) Thanks all for the kind words! Andy -
Hey all, Got another creation I'd like to share. Sized to fit a 15" MacBook with inner pockets for an iPad and other essentials. I did an extra bit of antiquing on this one and I think it came out looking fantastically dirty! ;-) Cheers, Andy

Leatherburnishers.com ... Anyone Have Their Tools?
AndyL1 replied to RoosterShooter's topic in Leather Tools
Hey Chris, Just saw this post! Yeah you're really close by. How's your leather biz these days? I do enough to keep me as busy as I want to be, considering I have very little free time that's not saying much! Haha! Yeah, changed my name as I wanted to develop a brand that more suits my style and interests. Andy Edit P.S. Just got my burnisher in and it is amazing! I wishi had bought one of these sooner... As in years ago! I've been just suffering with that crappy plastic wheel from Tandy. This burnisher should be a required tool on any respectable bench! Lol! My edges have never looked better. I started using a method I read on here somewhere, spray a tad of water into my saddle soap tin, apply a little with my finger along my edges and burnish away with the tool. Works perfect. -
Card Wallet With Money Clip
AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks Cyber! No worries on ripping off, I'm not the first one to make leather money clips for sure. ;-) I get these from Ohio Travel Bag. Thanks! I call it "sponge antiquing". Basically I get a regular kitchen sponge damp, squeeze the water out of it, dab a little black dye onto it and just pat the leather with it. If you do it lightly and just build up the color and move the sponge it looks great. Once it's nearly dry I'll come back and wipe the piece with the same sponge. It will still have some dye residue on it and that will get into the tiny nooks and crannies of the grain. It's kind of fun to be messy! Thanks all! Andy -
Card Wallet With Money Clip
AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks All! And special thanks to you Bluesman! Just a simple card wallet, but I am humbled by your praise. What's the address of this store? I'll need to send them some samples. HAHA! ;-) Andy -
Hey thanks for the plug TwinOaks! Actually Graphic Design is my main job (Senior Art Director for Motor Trend), I do leather work on the side to unleash my other creative side. ;-) I've changed from ARM Leather to Blackthorn Leather though if anyone is looking for me. I use Adobe Illustrator exclusively for creating logos. Unfortunately I'm too busy in my day job and home life to freelance anymore otherwise I'd help you out Leathersmith68. I could ask around my network of designers if they'd like a job for you? Andy
