  1. What a great question, I have wondered this also I cant offer any info but very interested in this so I'm following
  2. Just wanted to share my results ... It was just the waxes coming out of the hide and a little heat with a hair dryer worked like a charm. Thank you all for your comments and bikermutt07 for the heat idea :-)
  3. Sorry ...I see Chuck answered my question about the blade space, feel free to disregard my question Halitec And thank you all so much for your valuable experience. I have made a few but it has been about 10 years so Ima little rusty Regan I would like to do some basket stamping on it... if I try the wet molding when do I stamp? Will the molding not distort the basket weave? I am assuming that I need to do it before I would stitch it .....
  4. Is there a rule of thumb on how much space the blade should have? Is 1/8" enough or too much?
  5. Now you have given me some thought ... hmmmm I have never wet moulded before so Im not sure I have enough confidence to do that...I was thinking of two pieces with welt between. On the last pic I added another 1/4" all around as suggested above. Do you think that will be enough room for a 3/8" welt?
  6. I made a few adjustments due to the comments above.. how is this one?
  7. Yes ... you are so right there ... as soon as I read this I looked and had a big head nod. Funny how you get focused on one thing and forget the most important
  8. Hi all Just looking for some help on a knife sheath I am going to make for a friend. I have attached a pic of what I was thinking, please let me know if this will work and if I need to consider anything else. Thanks so much Regan
  9. I was thinking I would try this next ... thanks Bikermutt07 And thank you all for your responses ... I am pretty sure it is just the waxes coming out, have to say it was a bit startling when I rolled it out. My shop has been in a storage bin for 2 and a half years so wasn't sure what shape everything would be in. I have to say almost everything lasted just fine (other than a few bottles of dyes and finishes.
  10. Hi all I have unrolled a Latigo hide I bought about 4 years ago and it is covered in a White material. My first thought was mold but I have used diluted bleach with no results then I tried Isopropyl Alcohol with a little improvement but now I am wondering if it is just waxes coming from the leather itself. I can scrape it with my thumb in some spots. Any thoughts ? I have attached a pic to give you an idea.
