I work with a lot of Military Surplus that is canvas and leather. Some of the old leather is in pretty bad shape when I get it
This is what I do. And I do not know if it is the ''correct'' procedure. But works for me
1] clean. 1 part vinegar 3 parts water, clean salt stains and dirt
2] rehydrate rub neetsfoot into the leather, let it sit over night, reapply. repeat till leather is soft
3] Protection. rub mink oil into the hide, let it sit for 20 minutes then rub off
4] Wax. I wax the leather with Kiwi wax. I do not use any other Brand
