Personally I would put a glass or acrylic piece to cover and protect the Leather. If veg tan seal it with a leather sealer like Sheen, Resolene , or mop and glow. Not sure about oil maybe nothing. just cover it with clear glass or acrylic .
I posted these in another thread they should be here , so I'll put them here LOL
OK heres the 3 I made. The baseball style was my first and has been hanging a while now covered in dust LOL
Yea you had to post that didn't ya, Now I'm looking at my stool with the seat cover all ripped and all. Looks like a new leather cover is on the horizon. Thanks a lot
Well I live near Phoenix and I've made 3 leather hats and wear them now and then. They keep the sun off my bald head. Yes their kinda hot but not that bad.
If you don't mine a little comment. I think your stitches could be closer to the edge and beveling the edges would give it a better look , JMHO...over all pretty nice tho.
There in lies the problem. I didn't want to buy any water based glue until I know it would satisfactory replace what I'm using now. Don't want to buy something then throw it out.
If using a water based contact cement in wet molding, will the glue degrade ? I glue my sheaths together then sew then wet mold. I don't want the glue coming apart in the wet molding process.
I tried these from amazon, haven't had any problems.

I hate the fact that they use MM instead of oz for their leather thickness. I'm so use to Oz that going and converting mm to oz is a pain.http://www.cromwellgroup.com/leather-thickness.html
Thats a beautiful piece of work. Yes people haven't a clue what goes into leather work.. I've sold a couple of my knife sheaths 4 $24 and people think thats a lot for a little knife sheath. They don't look at the 3 hours of labor, the leather, the thread, the snaps and the Paypal and ebay fee's. plus the design time on the computer and engraving machine costs. I think I'm in the hole when all is said and done.
I think most of us here do it because we love making stuff.
