Sealing Angelus Dye
Spence replied to rccolt45's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Don't know where you are, but if you're in the USA, you can get the Deft at the local Home Depot. I haven't used the other stuff that Kate mentioned...Thanks, Kate. I'm going to bring my work bench down to the mailbox so I can get started playing with the Angelus dye as soon as the mailman comes. lol. -
My Second Dog Collar , This One Is For Nelson
Spence replied to easy's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
That is some awesome work with that. Love the filigree and contrasting background. It could only be better if it was around one of my dogs' necks. lol. -

I'd be interested in seeing answers. I'm waiting on an order of 10 colors and I've got a can of Deft standing by. -
I'll bring mine to the Guild meeting.

Works for me and I apologize if I prolonged the misery with my outburst.

I am also a fan of Brenda at Laser Gift Creations. I have 3 stamps. Two have a centerpiece of a German Shepherd head shot that Brenda crafted from a photo I sent her. The other is a Cadduseus (sp?). Outstanding customer service along with a great product.

Mike, it would be a very good idea if you were to read ALL of his other comments.

Why the hell is he still around ? He has never contributed anything constructive. He's single-handedly killed the desire for newcomers to show their work for critique or advice. There's millions of lesser forums that he could migrate his happy ass to.

I use 'roo almost exclusively now. I cut the strings, soap and stretch. Then I bevel. As I'm braiding, I will soap again, as needed to seat the strings properly. I use a recipe I found in one of the whipmaking or braiding books. A pound of lard, a bar of Ivory soap, some water. Cook it up and don't let it boil over. Makes enough soap to fill a 2 lb coffee can. If I'm braiding horse tack or anything that's gonna be hanging outside, I add a couple of drops of kerosene. This is supposed to keep bugs out of the leather.

S&W M&P Compact Holster?
Spence replied to Spence's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I just passed on any info to the lady that wants the holster made. But yes, if you can upload those pics I'd appreciate it. I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I jumped out there and did a multi-tool sheath for a gift, so my feet are damp. tks -
S&W M&P Compact Holster?
Spence replied to Spence's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for the offer, but I don't have a clue. I wouldn't attempt to make one yet. I'm still trying to get good at hand stitching lol. -
A friend of mine is looking for a holster to house an S&W Compact 9mm. Barrel 3.5" Overall 6.7" She lives in San Antonio, active duty military, if there's any makers in that area. Probably any area, actually. You can pm me if you want. tks

Well said, Ray. And so much better than I was about to.

Troy, a friend of mine just got DW and part of her "self-training" are training videos she is finding on the net. She started with a Google search and never looked back. G'luck

These answers are going to save me a lot of money, as I was thinking of hand-stitching dog harnesses, etc. Thanks folks.

I guess maybe I should have asked for critiques?

Let us not forget our very own Citizen Kate. Easy to get ahold of, not going anywhere, the price is very right, the customer service is to die for. Oh, and yeah, I've got my website hosted through her and she's also bringing it up-to-date from a stagnant puddle of mush.

I picked up a nice mini-lathe last week and plan to try my hand at making burnishers out of mesquite. Mesquite is a very hard wood and I have about 20 acres of it to pick from. Stay tuned.

I finally broke out of the braiding mindset and thanks to Gary and Dave, I came up with a sheath for my Victorinox Multi-Purpose Tool. It should drive the animal rights people crazy. The body is cow, the liner is pig, the inlay is fish (stingray) and the lacing is kangaroo. Oh, almost forgot - one of my german shepherds got ahold of it and wanted to make it his. So add dog spit to the ingredients.

Gum trag is one of the preferred methods, for sure

Josh, that is awesome!! I'm assuming it's for Esther - Am I smart or what? (file name) Seriously, it looks great. Do you have a pattern available? I'd like to try to make one for my Mom.

That looks like something I can work with. I've got to old slow computer. I just need the other stuff. Thanks for the info.
