I just started using Lexol in my Casing solution and found that the Burnish I get is twice as nice and dark. Can anyone tell me why this is. I love it. I do nothing different Casing time and Tooling is all the same. I would like to say that it was the new Barry King knife I used to carve the pattern but that would just be silly. any way still the same side of 7/8 h.o. Have any of you others had any experience with this? Tim Worley TK-Leather

new headstall with old school look
Tkleather1 replied to punchy379's topic in Saddle & Tack Maker Gallery
I like the look but I would be a little bit concerned about where the bit attatches. Those look like they could sore a horse. Just my opinion Tim Worley Tk-Leather -
The ones that I have been around will not hold an edge just sitting on the bench let alone tryin to use them.

Hey guys and gals, I just wanted to give a newer knife maker a plug. Last year I went to the Pendleton show and was overwealmed with all of the options of tools to buy and came out of there with only a few things and as it turned out they were very nice things from Barry king but not at all what I really needed. Well this year I went down there with a very limited budget but with a few things that I had to have (if I could afford it). Well I ended up buying a swivel knife from Barry King. I understand what some of you are thinking,"Lana smith was there, why didnt you buy one of the old smoothie knives?" Well I really like the feel of the Knives but they are WAY to long for me. I have pretty small hands and she didnt have the Smaller size that I needed so I will possibly get one of the smaller ones in a month or so, I liked the blade on Barry's knife just from playing with it there ar the show, with a little stroping I think it will be a night and day difference between his and my old Stohlman knife and blade, I like the stohlman knife well enough but not the blade at all. Next I bought a new head knife, I bought this head knife from a man named Brett Bronson, from Libby Montana. I talked to Brett a little bit last year but just couldnt pull the trigger on the knife. Well this year I went and talked to him again and found out that his knives are all 100% hand cut, shaped tempered and sharpened. They are a full tang tool steel knife with a hollow grind. theses knives at the show were 115.00. I came home and tried it out with some 8/9 veg tan that I have been having trouble cutting cleanly with my old osborn knife. This knife just glides right through it and here is the real kicker, It fits my hand nice and feels nice and balanced. I am very pleased with this knife and Brett is a Super nice guy. He told me if I have any trouble with this knife not holding an edge or any other trouble just to give him a call and send it back and if he cant fix the problem he will send me another knife. Sorry for the long rant but I am very pleased with my purchases and I will be happy to give you Mr. Bronsons contact info. There were lots of vendors there I would name them but I dont want to leave anyone out I did look at a stitcher that steve had there and all I can say is WOW that is a super nice and clean machine with every detail covered. I need to save up some more pennies though before I can pull that trigger. I will get some pictures of my Knives up a little bit later today. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Well Hello there, and welcome to the site. This is a great little community of leatherworkers that are for the most part more than willing to share any way that we can. Feel free to ask and you will get lots of responses. Tim Worley TK-Leather

I totally agree with you JW. I did however find some of their stuff absolutely Hillarious. I agree about the bits though that seemed like ignorance shining through. Dang near any of those bits if used properly will be just fine. I have a Spade bit horse and when used properly that bit is the most humane of all bits. I do see how it seems as though these bits can be "torure devices" when you dont know what you are talking about and just look at the way they appear and not how a horse is built. I just think ignorance is bliss to alot of these people. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Thanks guys I know that they are ugly but that is what they wanted. I think that they are kind of cool in a way. The gal that they are going to is an 18 year old that I would put up against just about any cowboy as far as bein a hand, so I figure she can wear what she wants. LOL She is one of those that has the John Deere sweatshirt, the J.D. boots. the J.d gloves ect. ect. She is the only person I know that could pull off wearin them. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Here is the latest pair of chinks that I have done. They are for a gal that is the biggest John Deere fan that I have ever seen. The bodies are Italian Green and the fringe is Yellow both are Hide house Hides. The Yokes and Side Panels are 7/8 H.O. The Pinking was done using a 1/4 inch half round punch. The pictures are not the best but it was the best I can do at this time. Tell me what you think. Thanks for lookin Tim Worley TK-Leather

I would like to vote for all of the above except the lighting I do have good lighting. Tim Worley TK-Leather -
Sorry to hear about that. I have a red heeler that got into a needle coon one time. If you know anything about heelers they tend to be a little aggressive she had em all in her mouth I live so far from the vet and it was a late Sunday afternoon I decided to pull them my self. Long story short I ended up wrapping her in a towel and still got bit a time or two. Needless to say she hasnt done that again.

Hey there Jo. This one only has the shoulder strap and no tote handle. It will mainly be used for her to bring her teacher stuff back and forth from home and school and occasionally her laptop. Thanks for the kind words. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Here is the latest laptop case that was built for the wife. It has been in the shop for months but as it always seems to work it kept getting put to the side when another project came into the shop. I finally finished it this morning. This is 7/8 H.O. I was not happy with this hide at all I could not get any of the color that I wanted. it is lined with bone chap leather from the hide house and the gusset is hand stitched. Feel free to tell me what you think or ask any questions. Thanks for lookin Tim Worley TK-Leather.
