  1. I am not 100% but I think the bees wax is the problem. I have heard that bees wax will not allow the dye to absorb into the leather. another thing are you using dye or edge paint?
  2. I am trying to concoct my own wax mixtures but I am having trouble melting some of them( they caught on fire) I know ha ha. what is the best way to melt. 1. Glycerin Saddle soap 2.Bees Wax 3.Parafin I know this sounds trivial but I am trying to experiment here and I am having no success. I know some of you mix your own waxes and such so it you could help me out I sure would appreciate it. Thanks Tim Worley
  3. DITTO, I got one from brenda and I absolutly love it. what a wonderful job, and lady.
  4. I have never built a saddle, Hell I dont even know where to start I was just Verifying my standpoint on Mr. Harwood. I couldnt tell you even what "I" think would be the better of the two. I was just stating a point. I would guess that an all leather seat would be more comfy, but all of the wood that I have ever rode have had a tin in them.
  5. I sure dont know the whole answer to that question but I think Mr. Harwood would be among the list.
  6. No tutorial from me I aint near good enough. and I could pick out errors all day if you want, I am never 100 % satisfied with my work I always am looking for a way to make it better. Thanks to all for the kind words Tim Worley
  7. Thanks Storm that is a great idea. I have to build one for the wife next so maybe. MadMaxx EVOO is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. and I use Saddle lac applied with Sheep skin NOT SPRAYED it spots real bad when sprayed. and then I use tankote as well. Thanks to all. Tim Worley
  8. Well here is the latest project that I completed. It is7/8 oz Herman oak. Lined with pig. the Gusset is Bone chap leather from the hide house. it is a pretty straight forward pattern. the enclosure is magnets under the buckles, I used Bontex for the stiffener but I think thes might be the last of that because once its stuck there aint no gettin it up. I used a Barry king Basket stamp, light EVOO and my neet-lac replacment applied with sheep skin. Let me know what you think. I am still workin on the edges but dont know what to do when using chap leather as a gusset.
  9. hey thanks for the info. I probably dont want to use the thing anyway then.
  10. I have another question regarding this dilema. I have the same machine and tried the same thing, the problem I had is the top thread was pulling the bottom thread all the way up. When I use the presser foot I have the same problem when going around corners and the thread is no longer under the foot. I tried to adjust the bobbin tension and it helped a little but didnt solve the problem. the local machine shop I have here wasnt alot of help so I went back to the original presser feet, I have been told that the roller foot makes a huge difference so if you guys have any suggestions please let me know. Sorry to Hijack. Tim Worley
  11. I am glad that the two forums are getting along and post both places.
  12. I use Bontex. I use it here and there for bag stiffener ( I buy it at Tandy, They sell it as "bag stiffener") I have been using it since I started in leather work. There are some draw backs though if you are not careful while tracing you can distor the pattern over time. I personaly am going to look up some of Bobs styrene it wound like the winning ticket. One question Bob what do you cut it with Just shears? Tim
  13. Just one quick question, if you are only 25 years old, and your first project on this board was a wallet how is it that you Did do those Holsters many years ago that you claim to have done? I just dont understand the timeline of Just starting in leather six months ago, Yet you built these fantastic holsters many years ago. For some reason I Cant beleive any of it.

  14. I think that is a good Idea but I dont see where they atatch to the saddle? I like the general idea however I would try to add a little more depth to your tooling. Just my two cents take it for what its worth. Tim TK-leather
  15. I jsut want to thank Brenda at Lasergiftcreations.com for making me a new Makers mark. I am very happy with not only the stamp but also dealing with all of my stupid questions. Brenda did a great job with the stamp and had incredible customer service. Thank you Brenda. I will post a picture of the impression later today when I get back home. Tim TK-Leather
  16. I dont have a clue what your pattern entails but I know that my wife has a Pommel bag that has a water bottle holder. A friend if mine has just a water bottle holder that is screwed right to the tree under a set of strings, and his wife has an insulated version of the same. They got them all at some horse expo here in spokane about 5 years ago or so, I dont remember who makes them but they are all made of nylon. Not trying to discourage at all just letting you know what I know is out there. Tim
  17. good lookin stuff as always Mark. I think your finger cuts look pretty good to me. A heck of alot better than any that I have attempted.
  18. nice work as usual mark
  19. I would like. Send me a pm if you want
  20. Shoot buddy those look good to me. I have never built a saddle but I will one of these days and when I do I hope they turn out as nice as those. Good luck in the mountains or desert what ever that bad jujju is overthere. I asume that you are military and I wish all of you the best and wish all of you HEROS come home safe. Tim TK-leather
  21. ok some more ignorance showing here. what is it you are calling a Chinaman?
  22. I am curious what is the best method to get a good tight wrap on the horn. I would like to use mule hide but cant find any apron splits. I do however have a bunch of latigo and was thinking about using that because that is what the saddle came with. So if any of you pros could fill me in on you method I sure would appreciate it. Thanks Tim TK-leather
  23. I think Dunkin Donuts coffee would do the trick LOL
