This is a great question. As a rookie leatherworker, edge bevelers is something I've also been struggling with. I'm looking forward to the answers.

There was a similar issue here maybe 6 months ago or more. The consensus was that some kind of metal fillings had contaminated the hide, if I recall correctly. The vendor replaced the hide. That makes more sense than mold forming in an hour or two, I'd think. Even over night seems too quick for mold.

Not to be a smart Alec, but couldn't you just measure the machine? Maybe if you were in doubt, you could cut a test in a stiff piece of cardboard?

Blue Guns, Dummy Guns and purchased patterns only get you so far. Nothing beats real world testing and evaluation. Maybe this is a good reason to buy one of every gun for which you're asked to make a holster.

A couple of rookie comments - that looks like a Singer 111W foot. Many machines use them and there are many variations available. Might be worth checking. Next, when I've read about machines bring adjusted to backstitch into the same holes, it's usually at a certain stitch length. Changing the stitch length, changes where it backstitches. Maybe this will cause one of the big dogs to jump in here and tell us if this applies to your machine.

I believe this machine has been talked about here quite a bit, so searching may uncover what you're looking for.

Wow, that's some hard work that really paid off. I agree, wrestling that bad boy up and down off the floor would be a bear. Is any weight resting on that wooden triangle block under the cylinder arm? I remember you shortened that table up (I think that was your project). The manly clutch turned out quite well. I like the alternating color of the layers around the gusset. Burnishing them to a slick finish might give an interesting effect.

I quite like that. If I used such things, I might make one myself. You're being way too critical of the basket stamp. I wouldn't have thought anything of it, had you not mentioned it. At least it doesn't look like it puked out the back of some factory in an unpronounceable Asian city, along with 9,999 others just like it.

Your question reminded me of the following thread where an admittedly talented, accomplished leather crafter turned out a piece using only entry level tools (Tandy). Take a look at the high level of work. We have a few members here who make their own stamps from bolts they've ground to whatever shape they want. So, I wouldn't get too wrapped up about using a starter set. The cost is usually below what you'd spend seperately.

@RoamingRanch, I'd be surprised if it did so satisfactorily. Since it's local to you, go take some leather and have a run at it. Maybe report back your findings so the next person has a baseline?
