I have only done one with this type of clip and I left it able to be pulled out. Afte sewing, it was very hard to get it in place. I don't think it will ever fall out.

I want my own style too, but I am starting from zero--maybe less than zero, LOL.

Resolene either dabbed or sprayed on has been good. I don't think you want to rub it on because it might take some paint away. I have no other ideas though so I will follow this posting.
