  4. This was my second project ever. First was an axe cover.
  5. Hi everyone, I have two very beautiful head knifes for sale. My brother made them based on designs found online. They are extreemely sharp. I can provide more pictures and videos per request. Details: Custom 5" head knifes for me. 15n20 steel from an old lumber mill saw. The top knife has exotic Bocote wood from Central America Bottom handle is from Chechen (Caribbean Rosewood) found in Cuba. Custom copper mosaic pins. 60-61 HRC (hardness). Asking $115 each w/ free shipping around USA. Paypal only. Please PM. Head Knife by Tolik Pugach, on Flickr
  6. I made this sheath for a friend in Arkansas who runs a pawn shop and recently bought this handmade knife. The gentleman who makes the knives is excellent at making knives, but not as good at making leather sheaths! Then I made this holster from horse leather for an older Ruger Service Six .357 Mag. It is a nice older gun, and I tried to make a holster that was attractive and hand formed without being too fancy. He wanted something simple.
  7. Heres a sheath I made for a Crocodile Dundee knife. Its veg tanned leather and crocodile with kangaroo lace around the border. Handle braids and sharpening spike lanyard are kangaroo.
  8. Here are a couple of pics of a belt case I made recently. Also a link to about a 20 min YouTube video I put together while making it.
  9. So today i finished my knife sheath , along the lines of making it i left out some burnishing , which made it really difficult to do when the case was put together. the edges are a bit rough because i have no skyver to take down the thickness of suade before stitching it so i had to try and do it with a blade which didn't work so well . well here it is .......
  10. I am working on some practice pieces, and I was given a straight dagger to make a sheath for. I found some images online of dagger sheaths that have the style that I am looking for, but I am unsure on how to achieve the form. I know how to wet mold, but how dose one get the pointed end like on these sheaths? Thanks!
  11. So my 16 yr old son is becoming quite the bladesmith, and he made a knife for my cousin in honor of earning his Eagle Scout Award. So I made a sheath to go along with the knife. I did this start to finish in under 6 hours - a bit of a rush... but I surprised myself on what I was able to do... even though there are a lot of mistakes... Let me know your thoughts... Cheers, Rich
  12. Just wanted to show off my knife sheath that I made for the knife I made. For a little back story on the knife. It started life as a ferriers file I layed out the design I wanted and cut it out. cleaned it up and ground down the file aspect of it. Worked the cutting edge down with a file not all the way to were it was sharp but sharp enough that after the heat treatment process was done it didnt take a lot of effort to get a sharp edge. After it was heat treated found a nice piece of wood and made the handle for it. and found a Brass rod cut three piece to put in the handle as well. worked the handle down to where i wanted it to be. then put a sharp cutting edge on it. Since I finished the knife I needed a sheath to carry it in. So grabbed some leather and got to work on that. Nothing to special about the sheath. The tooling is off a bit casue I did some last min. changes. I was going to stitch it but then decided to do a triple loop lace on it instead so some things are off. But it is for me so I was not going to start over. sorry for the long story. Thanks for looking. Hope you like it

  14. This is a knife sheath I just finished for a friend. All comments and critiques are welcome. What do ya'll think?
  15. A few sheaths made for a customer. Any suggestions on improvement will be great.
  16. Greetings, Just finished designing a couple of cross draw knife sheaths for a Buck 119 and was looking for some input on them. Essentially I took the basic cross draw designs I've found and added a swell to the bottom of the sheath. A spacer piece of leather is stitched between the edges to protect the rivets and stitching from the knife blade. After this I cut the belt loop with a bit of a curve in it to sharpen the angle the sheath has on the belt and attached it to the swell with two Chicago screws. The snap closure is connected to the belt loop itself so the blade of the knife doesn't contact any metal while in the sheath. The coloring on the right hand cross draw didn't come out quite as sharp as I would have liked, but I definitely like the coloring of the left hand sheath. Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed.
  17. My most recent sheath, a Cowboy Cross Draw for a Marine KABAR. Used 8 oz leather for the main sheath and 6 oz for the belt loop. All metal hardware is located outside the main sheath so the blade touches nothing but leather when sheathed. Spacer/welt stitched into the seam to protect stitching from knife blade. Finished in Fiebings Medium Brown Stain with Dark Brown Highlights.
  18. I started making a skiving knife today. If I'm going to be making knives, I have to work with leather and a good skiving knife is a critical tool to have. I could have just as easily bought one but this is much more fun. I have a large piece of bandsaw blade from an old wood sawmill. I got it cut to shape and ground out. Then started the tedious task of sanding all the rust off. I got the handles roughed out and the pin holes drilled in the handle and in the blank. Then go it sanded to 800 grit. I don't know if I want to go much further. I don't have a buffer. Its on the list though.
  19. This is one of my latest projects, I've seen a lot of the Steampunk style leather items floating around and decided to try my hand at it. First attempt not so much, but this second attempt turned out pretty good though I'm open for any critique.
  20. Hello, I was wondering what is the best tool to cut tight curves with? I'm using an x-acto knife with a no. 11 blade, a rotary cutter, leather sheers, and a standard utility blade. I'm having difficulty cutting tight curves into 3oz. leather. Is there a tool that would be a better fit for these types of cuts? Or is this just a skill level issue?
  21. hiya...just finished this, very thick 5mm leather, hand-painted panels... hope you like! a
  22. I've been lurking for a while but now comes the time for my first post. I've been commissioned a chefs knife roll and I'm struggling choosing the correct thickness of natural vegetable tanned leather. It needs to be thick enough to withstand pointy tips of knives but also flexible enough to be rolled. I've thought about using 4/5 oz. leather on the backside and a lighter 2/3 oz. leather for the inlay which will be covering the knife handles. Has any member on here tried making knife rolls before and what should I look out for? Regards, Alex
  23. Hi all I'm looking at having a go at leather working, making bags, belts, cases etc as well as carving. I live in the UK and have just ordered some basic carving tools, but I've read that the carving knife is blunt and will need to be sharpen and to strop often when carving. My better have already has tools as she enjoys a bit of DIY (she makes clothes & jewellery) and says she has a "whetstone" for sharpening. Can I use this wet stone for my own leather tools? Also stropping - What is this, and where can I get / make this from - some of the tutorials I've seen all seem to be USA based. I've tried looking on the "LE Prevo" site, where I have purchased my tools from, but they don't seem to sell sharpening / stopping tools. Any help on this would be great. Many thanks Alan
  24. Hey all, I've been doing some research on round and head knives. At first I thought that I would go with the Tandy brands just because they're close to me and reasonably cheap, but I've since reconsidered after reading some reviews. I've decided to save up and wait for a good quality one. However, I'd kind of like a 'stop-gap' knife for cutting curved pieces and patterns. Right now all I have is a utility knife that doesn't do a good job on curves. I've looked at the Tandy Industrial Knife and I'm wondering if it would fit the bill. Anyone ever used one? Pros and cons? Alternatives?
