Handstitched Report post Posted December 26, 2019 @chrisash Thank you very much. Sadly extreme heat & severe bush fires are a part of life downunder, but this year its so much worse , and the arrogance of our PM is only adding insult to injury to those that have lost everything . But thank you so much. Lets all hope that 2020 is a much better year for all of us. Best Wishes, HS

dikman Report post Posted December 28, 2019 Thanks for your thoughts, Chris. While we have had some catastrophic bushfires in the past I've never known it to start this early in the season, or be so widespread. Many areas are in extended, intense drought and water is drying up in some places. There's no doubt the climate is changing (I've been noticing the subtle effects for many years where I live) but that's what happens on this planet. It changes. And yes, Handstitched, our PM is reluctantly being dragged into providing support for not only those who have lost everything but the volunteer firefighters too, for without them it's fair to say a lot more of this country would now be burning. Did I ever mention I hate Summer?
Bert51 Report post Posted December 28, 2019 Dragged, He's kicking and screaming and trying to pass the buck to the State Gov, again. I have been very lucky, no fires in my area yet, but the summer has just started. Bert.

It's bad enough having to evacuate let alone having everything you've built burnt to the ground but my thoughts are with those in Aus and the US who realise it's too late to get out. My God, how awful. It's no wonder to me that Aussies are the way they are what with all the wildlife trying to kill you and now this. Having said that I wish I hadn't bottled out of emigrating on the £10 ticket all those years ago.
