They now have a veg tan sole and a back. I didn't allow enough lean in on the back so it doesn't grip as much as I'd like so might put some padding around the top.

Your feed sounds good. Wish I was near enough to nose my way into it. Your family is lucky to have you and your son. We just did some groceries, and are tucking in for some movies and maybe a hot cocoa. Happy Christmas, everyone. Oh, and a pal of mine came by to try making a wallet. She's doing great so far. I could learn from her, if only I would listen -
I have mentioned and recommended them a few times in the past because of their great leather (in my humble opinion) and excellent customer service. This week I had another example of that: I placed an order for 10 of the skirting bellies from the December sale flier. As usual, the lady on the phone was very nice (I think it was Cindy) and I got an email an hour later that the package was ready to ship! It arrived TWO DAYS later, which I thought was really fast, considering the Christmas rush and all. When I opened it there was a sticker on top that said “Extra leather at no charge” . I couldn’t figure out what that meant until I unwrapped the leather and found they had put four extra bellies in! I’m guessing they did that because some of them are a little narrow; I still consider them a steal at $5.00 a piece. I’m by no means a high volume customer, but I thought that was a really nice thing of them to do! So if you’re looking for great leather and even better customer service go to Wickett & Craig! They definitely have a lifetime customer in me!

Here it is done, pretty much. He darkened it more and kept working the nose (more curled). These earlier (24,25?) seats only have a partial back, as seen in the picture of the frame. So the first layer of leather is kind of the bucket. This seat has boiled (felted) wool (from an old blanket) and a heavy linen weave to protect the wool. (?) The top leather layer is cut a little bigger to get the sling and fit right before the stitching, final trim, and burnishing. I would have done the wet and weight trick with a carefully drawn stitchline, then would have definitely sculpted my edge better. But my guys don't like "hold-ups". lol (or listening to granny) The motor is a 3D print, but since then, he has bought an original motor to rebuild. He didn't grow up with guys doing this kind of stuff (mostly the women are the mechanics around here). But from the time he was a little kid, he loved to make "props". He carved wood stalks and used metal pipe and probably sewing machine parts to make a pretend rifle. Once, he made a rifle so real that we quickly bought it off of him before he headed back to town, where he lived. So, for the seasoned, this might not be up to par, but by the time he is done, he will know every detail, and it will be amazing.

How to ease when sewing leather on a 1341?
Constabulary replied to joetroba's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
machine seems to be a Singer 17 or Seiko TE-6 and they have supper small bobbin. Surprises me that they sew with fairly think thread this fairly thick leather with a machine like this > not much thread on the bobbin. When I look at the stitch length lever the it seems to me just a screw w/o reverse - or not? However - IIRC there was a reverse device of the Singer Class 7 that did not come with reverse ex factory... Maybe they tinkered something similar. Well.... lots of guessing here. No matter what they do a great job there - I´m quite impressed. EDIT: weeeeell - I´m not sure - new TE-6 have reverse AFAIK but not sure what I see there. EDIT II: Looks like this one - which looks like a non reverse machine -

most of my machines have additional small pedal for reverse as I have simple setups with cheap servos or old clutch motors without control. Reverse is anyway the sewing machine function and it is just chain/rod connecting to the reverse lever. That's number 4 on the image. -

thread is coming of the spool a bit the odd way. Maybe one of these thingies may be helpful. However if it works for you then don´t mind. 😉 -

okay, may depend on the machine 😉 -
A bag maker in the making...with a zypper, no less 🌟 That seam next to the zypper would look cleaner if you pull the old thread off. (Looks like you made a seam, ripped that seam out, but left the old thread)

Yep, and I find the older I get, the more time I spend inside in winter. MY days of skating, skiing and tobogganing are sadly past. Oh, I don't think there's a single one of us who hasn't done something similar with either glue, paint or dye! My worst moment was when I decided to do a little touch-up on a nearly completed project. Normally, I use a syringe to transfer a small amount of dye to one of those little pallets with the tiny depressions in them for holding different colours of dye. Nah, I thought, I'll just dip my brush in the bottle... Spilled the whole damn bottle! The one good thing was the project was okay. My cutting mat, pants, shoes and the floor, not so much! -

Good Morning AlZilla, I thank you and the rest of the members that took time to share their knowledge and help with me. Just yesterday I put my little 130 Pfaff through an exercise as I put together a small bag. She was determined and a sport, but clearly not a leather sewing machine. We had a good time (sure!), and came up to a place where something was made and we both limped away with a small sense of pride. I'll try to take some pictures to share. Mind you I really did not know Jack from Jill, and really still don't, when it came to machine sewing. My initial thought was that I would get a sewing machine and learn how to operate it, and if proven capable, would eventually get me a more capable machine for my hobby and turn it into a jobby as someone so aptly put it in a thread I read earlier. During one of my many sessions at the University of YouTube, I saw a lesson where someone touted the virtues of the Pfaff 332 and called it a leather capable sewing machine. After missing on what seemed like a good Singer ( I think it was) at the Marketplace, a 332 (1957 vintage) showed up and I jumped in it head first. Pure impulse, but since it was not a true leather sewing machine, the hit though probably excessive was not devastating. When I brought her home after grabbing it without even testing it, many a flaw showed up. These flaws though were learning opportunities. I had to replace old electrical wires, get a working pedal and found out what appears to be very common with these old German ladies, they tend to freeze. Now I read from your comment that you have your own stable of Vintage mares, so are probably familiar with my experience but at a larger scale. My Pfaff 130 (1951) I picked up for nearly no money and did not expect it to work immediately. The wiring was in shambles so most of it was replaced and it presented its own set of learning opportunities. She is less complicated than the 332 who has an impressive set of dials and cams which when working properly can make a crap-load of decorative stitches. The 130 I have can zigzag, reverse and adjust stitch length, as far as I can use. I'm afraid that I've been bitten by the old German machines bug, so I picked up yet another, a Pfaff 260 which sits in the shed awaiting for spring when hopefully I can give her a makeover. This one I also picked up at what seemed like a very good price and am hopeful to be able to bring back to working order. If I succeed, she and her table should be very nice. I'm going to see if I can attach that video Piquant asked to see from the machine in use. I was able to paste a posting I did which included a video on a Pfaff 130 owners group. I'm afraid I'm proving as limited in my interactions with this website as I am with my sewing. I thank you again for your help and time as well as the opportunity come here to this site and enjoy the knowledge and support of a community. -

I'd like to see that. She appears to be using a clutch motor, based on the rapid start / rapid stop and the old style ON/OFF power selector. -
You'll have better luck if you start a new topic 😉

I´m updating here cause I have an Astor M5 on my bench for restoration - the inner thread is metric M10x1.5 (at least on mine). So the information MikeRock got from the distributor is correct. So if you need a cheap tool adapter for M6 or M8 tools / dies then this could be an option: https://www.ebay.de/itm/402466257921 Hope this helps

I've been trying to find out about this machine but I'm not finding much. The words "Marca depositata" is Italian for "registered trademark" so it's likely this is Italian made. The possible machine name may be Lince which is Lynx in Italian and Spanish. On the label in front of the L the graphic seems to have a tail and you can see the 2 front legs leading to it being an animal. So (Lince) Lynx may be correct. More than likely, since you got it from a cobbler, it's a sole trimmer. Sort of like a 5in-1 but it's a guillotine cutter and it only does one thing

Tippmann Boss leather stitcher. Nice like new machine that I purchased about a year ago but I just do not use it. Come with edge guide, table top with sewing guide, 4 different sized spools of black thread (one installed), and all the accessories shown. I even added a magnifying lamp to the tabletop where I mounted the machine to help my old eyes see what is going on. I am willing to ship, without the stand obviously, if you pay but would rather sell local. Great machine for leatherworking.

A friend ordered this guitar strap as a Christmas present for his son. I don't do a lot of floral tooling so it took some time. I vow to practice more in the coming year. A pre-news year's resolution. Randy

How to ease when sewing leather on a 1341?
joetroba replied to joetroba's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Yeah I have watch videos and they make it look so easy. I think the reverse is on the foot pedal. You can get those where you push forward on the pedal to go forward and backward (or heel side) of the pedal to go in reverse. As far as stretch and mis formed due to use, I can agree there is probably some of that. However, there are other pieces that are different lengths where I would say there is no way they distorted the amount that I am seeing. And there is one where the left edge is a slight S curve that the right edge is a regular curve. And those have the most difference. I have created this out of EVA foam and glued canvas to the pieces so I could sew them. They came out pretty decent considering the foam has so much stretch. I am going to attempt to explain this and I hope it makes sense. If you take these pieces and you manipulate them in 3 dimensions and slowly keep the edges lined up, you can get them to start even and end even (even with a large difference in length). Now the fun is getting that to work that way on the machine. As far as seam allowance, I get that (sort of). Because the welting is only 3/16" wide and you are sewing in the middle of that width. And all those edges line up the, the seam allowance of sort of just 3/32". Unless, I am completely thinking about that incorrectly. Tolerances are quite small. -

BBQ season is the perfect time of year to be off for a while, enjoy every minute of it you can! I'm in charge of Christmas dinner, the son and I are surprising everyone with Crab, lobster tails, shrimp, either boiled in beer or beer-battered, oh, and fried oysters for Christmas Eve. Yeah, sadly, here in Wyoming. In cattle country, it was a cheaper option than a beef prime rib roast. its still blowing and forecast for at least another four or five days!! Jeez, this has been a long one. A weird, sad fact for our small community is that the suicide rate has always far exceeded the norms of the world, and it's been blamed on the isolation, unceasing winds, and bitter cold of the area. It looks gorgeous outside, but when you go out, the wind just drives any warmth right out of you. Blows so hard you can't catch your breath lol. It's also why I have about a hundred indoor hobbies lol. -
