Hey all just wondering if anybody has used a high speed engraving machine like the SCM 400 or similar tool like in picture below, to do filigree cut out work on leather ?? It seems to work good on egg shells lol ! Thanks

Is natural color (white) delrin considered transparent? I read that diode laser cannot cut transparent acrylic, but I wouldn't have thought white was transparent. I bought two sheets of white delrin to test with, and my diode (5W) isn't even making a mark on them. 300mm/min at 100% power, and nothing. Maybe I should have bought black?

For those who use 3D printers and maybe wondering what to expect as far as life expectancy of heated bed sheets on a Prusa machine might be. I just had to replace my bed on the Prusa Bear upgraded i3 MK3 3D printer as the bottom layer was slowly degrading with some lifting and voids occurring, not pretty. The bed on this machine had to be replaced after 200 miles of filament. I figure not bad, but the older Prusa i3 with the same bed has over twice the filament mileage, hum. The bed was replaced with a new Satin Powder sheet bed and the results are really nice a few test pieces as compared to the original heatbed steel sheet. Any one have similar / better / different res…

Hi Folk My impression of a Round knife workbench stand, you are all welcome to make, no limits etc Design at present the blade length is 152 mm wide, the depth of the slot for the blade from ferule to bottom is 55 mm I suggest a brim of about 10-20 to give strength whilst making and time to print about 6 hours I can extend dimensions if required Round Knife workbench stand.stl

I have been doing a few projects recently that need a very small cylinder machine to enable me to get into the tight corners and such. This is still a bit of a work in progress but so far the results have been good. A few more tweaks and they should be excellent. I have a 335 Pfaff , 69 Adler, Tk 335 Elizabeth and a 331 Pfaff that I have finished of some new cylinder caps for. After doing some measurements and tests the width of the caps have now been reduced from 46.6mm down to 41.4mm. ( a bit under 1/4"). The depth has reduced a couple of mm and the length a couple as well. NOTE: except for the Pfaff 331 which has a little more room for reductions, all of the caps fitte…

I have a large project where the customer wants to print some stuff on the flesh side of a custom stamped coaster. Clearly stamping the back won't work as it will probably print through, a branding iron with custom stamp costs as much as some of the cheaper lasers. A rubber stamp would look crappy and silk screening would also look crappy. After knocking over a bottle of Fiebing’s dye I decided to print a simple holder. Small bottles are a nice snug fit and now are very stable on the bench. I’ll post the .STL file tomorrow when I get back on the PC. Took almost 4 hrs to print. Gary

Just found these handy drag knife video's on YT on how to make your 3D printer cut out leather designs or Acrylic. Far quicker than using Laser tech by the looks of it First one just uses a drag knife available from CRICUT ads on eBay though the one shown is the short knife there is a deeper one available, CRICUT do make a leather cutting model as the "maker" but at £300 this seems a far cheaper option Second video is using a 3D printer with a Dremel attached and used to cut acrylic and other hard surfaces
