Looking for suppliers of leather suitable for making boot tops. I know there is a supply category, but figured this room would be easier to get an answer from the folks who know. if I need to move message boards, I will. Any help is appreciated in advance.

Howdy folks I am interested in trying to make a pair of boots. I want to make something like these boots found in this mid 1800's photo. I have done a little searching and have come up empty so thought I would post here and see if anyone can point me in the direction of where I can find an existing pattern for boots like these or something similar that I could modify.

Hello all, First off, Ill start by pointing out that I am not a shoe/boot maker and have never made a pair. I have absolutely no experience in this field although I have been leather crafting accessories for a few years. That said; I'd like to take a stab at making a rough pair of boots. I'm not really interested in learning how to carve a pair of lasts out of wood at this point as it seems that this is an art of its own. Rather, I'd like a more simple way of making a pair of lasts. I've done a bit of reading about using a pair of old boots/shoes to pour some sort of resin/foam into to get a rough last shape out of, then shaping it. The problem is…

I came across this book, and was wondering it should be possible to make these out of leather and not sheepskin right? http://www.walrusshoe.com/books_pages/ugg.htm I saw this pic, https://www.ugg.com/women-boots-classic-boots/bailey-button-triplet-ii-boot/1016227.html#start=27&cgid=women-boots and was thinking of making them similar as a boot for like Renn Faire's Tightens on the side for a snugger fit. Any thoughts? deryk

Lisa Sorrell is carrying a smallish collection of lasts. She has cowboy boot lasts, ladies pumps and flats lasts, men's dress shoes, sandal lasts and athletic shoe lasts. They are reasonably priced at $85 a pair. You can buy them by the pair. You don't have to buy an entire run of a design. Next month I'm hoping to be able to order a pair of the athletic lasts to use for flat soled shoes. Heels in general mess with my back. The athletic last looks like it'll work for everyday style of shoes.

My wife asked for a pair of moccasins. So I purchased the Tandy pattern pack and went to work. The first one went slow, but the second one went together twice as fast after learning how to stitch them. Maybe some plainsman boots for me next.

Hi all, I'm looking for assistance from all of you who make shoes and boots. By trade I'm a welder and heavy equipment mechanic, so I go through boots like nobody's business. Every 6-12 months (if I'm lucky) I'm looking for new boots, I've tried almost everything from White's to Brahma's and all the brands in between. But recently I got the idea to make my own boots. I think I can do it, but I don't know where to start. I already make leather goods on the side as a hobby, but you all make me look like a beginner. Please tell me how you got started, what resources you used to learn, books, tools, videos, supplies, etc. I'm not looking to start a busine…
