I have a Lawrence holster made for a big 44 Blackhawk. It was made like a normal holster but had a big rectangular slot cut out for the big rear sight that was not covered at all.
Seems like each cartridge would need circumference (,44 x 3.14) plus spacing (around 3/4) is 2.13 in per cartridge (approx) plus an inch to start and end. Cut it longer for good measure. I use a micrometer, wrap the leather I am using around a cartridge, mike it and lock the mike and use it to mark spacing. If you don’t have a 44 case I can mail you a few.
I do cartridge diameter plus 2 leather thicknesses. Need to wet mold with a loaded or resized case, not fired. The expansion makes a difference.
Length depends on number of cases.
Won’t rot thread. Very weak acid. Can neutralize it with baking soda and water. Don’t really matter how much. Makes leather harden a bit for me, more than wet molding. Leather will stink for about 2 weeks. Sealer covers the smell mostly. Will freeze and break your jars, otherwise seems stable. I do 2 coats to get a deep black. Looks kinda gray till you oil it.
A friend who does leather came by to see how I make valet trays. He wanted to know how I made them rigid wet formed. I showed him but he uses only chrome tanned leather. I said I did not think that’s possible. Is there a stiffener to dip/brush on chrome tanned that will stiffen it?
Alcohol will lighten/remove Feibings Pro dye. I use it for cleanup. I have lightly rubbed leather with a paper towel and alcohol to get dye and edgekote off. Will take dye off, sometimes a lot, depending on how you put it on. Was dye Sprayd, , dip dyed, dauber?
