Chest Holster - Thanks Hags
MarlinDave replied to JWheeler331's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That is outstanding. Simple and rugged. If you don’t mind show the back sometime to see how the straps connect. Also, are the quick disconnects on the right side available in metal? A friend wants me to replace some plastic ones that keep breaking. I wan one for my 10 inch barrel Blackhawk but I don’t have enough chest. -
I always wondered if a scope stayed zeroed on a handgun in a holster. We always went to great lengths to keep pressure off rifle scopes in racks, etc.

Should I Buy? Seized Singer 29k60 Treadle
MarlinDave replied to EDDD's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
If scrap prices would go up a little it would scrap out for $75. -
Tattoo ink
MarlinDave replied to Davy's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Used to tattoo cattle in ears with number set in a pliers type device (multiple pins made the number), wipe in a green or black tattoo paste, and wipe off. Wax in cows ear kept the tattoo from staining ear. Lasted the animals lifetime, and that was future leather I guess. Shine a flashlight from rear of ear to read. I bought a little carry around file box at a yard sale. Had a box of pens and scissors in the bottom. Included am EPT and a tattoo gun. Never know what you will find. -
I had a water bottle on the leather bench and a bottle of rubbing alcohol, both open on a hot day last summer. Drank from the alcohol bottle by mistake. Caught myself before I swallowed and spit it out.

I have a well worn and cantankerous Consew 225 with a clutch motor and homemade speed reducer. My friend has a pristine Juki LU 562 with reverse. Looks like it just came from the factory. Would the Juki be a direct swap to my table and motor/reducer setup as they are both Singer clones? I would consider buying his if the table would fit both, but the stuff in my leather shop would make a table swap close to impossible.

Spraying NFO
MarlinDave replied to MarlinDave's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I have seen people use a pump up sprayer similar to the one Fred pictured to apply mineral oil to hogs backs in the showring. I would guess mineral oil is a little lighter oil than NFO. -
Anybody spray Neatsfoot oil? I have some projects where I need to oil both sides of a dyed product. The rough side is wetformed convex and applying NFO with a rag takes a lot of the dye off. I have tried the water/starch type spray bottles and the NFO (and dye) lock up the little pump in the spray bottle. I hate to pull out the airbrush/mini paint gun for such a little amount of product applied. Anybody got a spray bottle that works? Thanks.

I tried a different version of that holster. Did not turn out nearly as well as yours. I really need to be taller.

The lighn 24 snaps are heavier than the standard Tandy snaps (lighn 20). You can get better snaps, and longer, from Ohio Travel Bag and Steckstore. Chicago Screws work better for me. I have been using 12-13 oz for valet trays (all I had handy) and I ordered 1/2 inch Chicago screws from the same places.

Can anyone help me with a running a 3-phase Juki at home?
MarlinDave replied to williaty's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I bet the control circuit is single phase. Might try swappIng the 3 wires because sometimes converters leave one pole out of balance/phase. -
Yes that is 0.030 inch. Thanks.

.030 waxed thread. I have the awls and the chisels. Just not motivated. If not for a good friend I would say forget it.

I hate to hand sew but I have some work my Consew 225 won’t handle. I need to sew 2 layers of veg tan, 10-11 oz plus a thin pigskin liner. All I have and can seem to find is what they call “doll needles”. These come as a set of 3 or 4 sizes of 2 each, most too small, plus a curved set. I would like to find an online source that would have a pack the same size. Thanks.

Wal Mart has 2 sizes of these table/bed lift kits. Really solid for hand work but I have seen them broken with beds, etc. Handy to put away and fold the table.
-
Would need that long embroidered Porter Wagoner coat to cover that for concealed carry. Great idea.
-
I have been putting some pigskin lining in some holsters. I cut the lining bigger, glue it and then trim. I always end up with a ragged edge on the lining., especially after edge burnishig. On straight places I can use a fabric circle knofe, but the rest looks bad. Suggestions?
-
This only stinks when you are working it wet. The NFO and Mop and Glo covers it up pretty welll.

I got a couple of imported veg tanned sides a year or so back (really all I could get) that came from Venezuela I believe. When I wet them to form or stamp the leather smells distinctly like cow manure. Surely the extended tanning process washes any off the hide. Is there a tanning process that uses manure as an ingredient? I have washed my hands half a dozen times this afternoon and still smell it. I have lots of direct first hand contact with cow manure and this is for sure the odor. re

Yes, I posted this question over on "computer help" and never got a response : What is the 1.5 MB max? Per post, hour, or day? I posted a 500 MB photo in one post, then tried a 1 MB in the next post, it denied the second. I shrunk the 2nd so that it was below 1 MB and it went. If I wait an hour can I post pics again? I have taken pics with my ipad and they are too large. I have taken pics with my phone and they are too large. I now take pics with an ancient Canon camera and sometimes they go, sometimes not. I realize there is software that shrinks pics, I dont have it. Sometimes I am able to shrink files with my Canon Camera to under the 1.5 MB and still cant post. Sometimes I try to post 2 pics in the same post, the total of both don't exceed 1.5 mb. and they don't post. Sometimes I try to post 2 pics neither exceeding 1.5 mb, and I cant post them in consecutive posts. I know this is off topic here but thats why I asked it March 9 in Computer Help section and got no help. I am not a computer professional that does leather on the side. This is difficult for me.
