Masking Off Problems
OdinUK replied to RavenAus's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Yes, but the dyes are airbrushed on. When I first started experimenting I did notice a slight change in shade where the latex had been, so now I apply the latex to the whole area being masked so that if there is a change in shade it will be uniform over the whole area. I just paint the liquid latex on with a brush, a small one for small detail or near edges and a larger one for the bigger areas. -

I use liquid latex without problems. -
Airbrush With Latex
OdinUK replied to Chesh's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
As far as I know, water should not be used with Fiebings dyes because they are not water based. Some folk use isopropyl alcohol but I use denatured alcohol. I have not used the white latex, in fact this is the first I hear about it so will look it up. -

Ah ok, that's a good idea. Thanks for that. I was considering using leather as a lining but could try suede so I don't have to dye the inside.

Very nice. Does it have a lining? In fact, do dog collars have to have a lining or is it fine without?

Brilliant work! Nice lining with the decorative cuts, and I like the white stitching on the black leather. It looks great. -

I like the design and tooling. Did you use a resist on un-dyed leather on the skull? What finish did you use? It looks quite natural. -

Here is my first attempt at a knife sheath. Its a double sheath to take two Butterfly Knives as used in Wing Chun Kung Fu. It's hand sewn through five layers of veg tan leather (two welts). I used Fiebings Oil dyes and finished with Carnauba Cream and then Aussie wax. Edges were smoothed and burnished. The Chinese characters are an old, traditional font and translate to WIng Chun (one of my other passions).

Excellent work, I really like them. The molding is very crisp. I do have a question though. On the first picture it looks like deep moulding around the trigger. Is there any risk of the trigger being pulled when the gun is being put into the holster? Do you wrap the gun in clingfilm or similar when moulding? -
Yellow/orange Backpack
OdinUK replied to MonicaJacobson's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That's a very nice bag. Yep, you must charge for your time if doing it to make money. I tend to give the first few of anything I make as gifts to friends and family and as a result other people have asked me to commission some projects. But now I will charge for my time to the general public even though its a hobby and not my day job.
