This is what I do too most times because all I can ever seem to find in books & so forth are Sheridan style. Nothing against Sheridan, it's just not my thing. After you type in what you are looking for in Google image finder, click on search tools. It will allow you to select line drawings to filter out the photos.
Your own critique is pretty much spot on with anything that I would have said. Maybe a hair blade or something would help bring out the definition in the moose's body?
My brother-in-law (cgriff54) and I were just discussing the vacuum storage bags. Good to know some other folks have had decent results with them. I think we'll give that a try since I can't afford the pump right now. I've got one of the big 30 gal Shop Vacs that outta get some good suction. Hope to get around to it this week. I'll try to remember to post some results.
That's a nice little press Dwight and I've got everything but the rubber sitting in the garage. You think some of the closed cell camping mats would work? I've got one that a little harder, not like those soft Yoga mats or wrestling mat softness.
Thanks Bruce. I don't have any Feibings laying around yet but I do have some of the Tandy equivalent. I'll cut another test piece and give it a shot. If it's really that durable, maybe I could just get away with a few good coats of neutral shoe polish.
I've got a piece of elephant from a SLC scrap bag. It's got a really cool rust color that's a really close match to the grips on my 1911. I'd like to use a piece on a holster for myself. The problem I'm having is that every finish I have tried turns it dark brown and I lose the lovely rust color. Can anyone offer a suggestion to help protect it from the elements and abrasions that can be experienced by something hanging from a belt, but keep the original color?
Cool man, look forward to seeing the results. You and I are right on the same train of thought on tooling styles. If by some weird chance, you ever make it to the states and happen to find yourself in northwestern PA, look me up.
I see what you mean about the card slots. Everything else looks good but the interiors aren't quite up to your usual standards (take that as a compliment on your other work). I'm really digging the big one in the second post, especially the dye job. Reminds me of an old school tat job. I'm not really sure how to help as I haven't completed a wallet yet...started a few though. Here is a link to Kevins tutorial to go along with the youtube link above.
Since this was brought back to life, I'd love to get ahold of more eightbits patterns. The original site seems to have gone by the wayside. If anyone has some more of them, please either PM me or just post them for all to share.
That frog has some really nice detail and the coloring is right on. I waited a few days to click this topic because I didn't think it was my cup of tea. I'm glad I clicked though because otherwise I would have missed some outstanding tooling.
I don't think an untrained eye would even notice the scales being a little off. I'd love to do a set for my 1911 but I really like my Pachmayer grips with the rubber finger holds.
