  1. Sometimes I am thickheaded. These three pictures should help you out a little. A head knife will leave a depression at the cut. The rotary knife does not. Can you see the joint? That is 10z English bridle material. I would make the miter first and then run it through the splitter if you need it thinner.
  2. I have some 7 needles that have a body diameter of .055 would that be small enough??
  3. The easiest and fastest fix for this is to buy another watch band. By the time you finish investing in the products necessary to transform it back to black you will have wasted the money for a new band and you still will not know if it will work. my 2 cents.
  4. Do you have a kick press? If you do have one you should make a gang punch setup for it. This would be any number of holes you want in the belts. I am making one for my press it is setup for 8 holes and if I don't want 8 holes then I take out the punches I don't want to use. The holes are consistently straight.
  5. If your budget will stand it get the walking foot electric machine. Your arm will get tired of running the Tippmann but the Tippmann will sew 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch without breathing hard. I have found a few walking foot machines on Kijiji.ca from time to time. Some are inexpensive and others are not. Good luck.

  7. Photos # 13 & 14 shows a started piece and how I attach it to the jig with a piece of lace. Photo #17 shows the important part of the seam. I use two steel rulers and two clamps to do this with. The bottom of the material is set flush to the bottom edge ruler. The top ruler is set back 5/16ths of an inch from the edge. Clamp both ends of the material to hold it in place this is where you make the 45 degree angle for the box, take a utility knife or what ever you want use and cut this off. Make sure the blade contacts the top ruler as well as the bottom ruler. Your finished cut will be a 45 degree angle After the angles are cut I punch the holes for lacing here again you need to set your lace holes 5/16 from the finished edge of the joint you just made. Photo #18 is self explanatory. Photo #19 shows your corner. I use bees wax and a slicker to fold the corner don't forget to put some glue on the joint before sewing.   9. I finished up 15 rifle slings and started some dog collars for next weeks sales. Almost forgot I have two saddles repaired and ready for the customer too. Excellent week.

  11. It is nice you want these pieces of leather but you neglected to say the thickness of the leather.
  12. It is a gang punch. They are custom made by machine shops for the specific distance you want on the holes. They can be made to fit a foot operated kick press. I am in the process of making one for my press it has 1 1/4" spread on the holes for belts.

  14. There is the possibility that the ends of the roller are worn unevenly and will be in need of repairing.
  15. I know lots of folks think Craigs list is a ripoff but I bought my Adler 167 from a guy in Rochester, NY it was listed on Craigslist for 300 bucks. It works great and it is in my shop.   16. I agree with Wizcraft I would get rid of the 45 for a 441 or a 205. I would not buy the cobra machine offered from the USofA either. The machine you have the link to on ebay is not want you need either. It is known as a "ruffler" it will do the same thing the 45 is doing it will mess up the bottom of your project because it too has very aggressive feed dogs. I would look for a local machine of the 441 or 205 variety that is located in your part of the world. Personally I would get the 441 like sewmun suggests.

  18. The belt you took apart is probably made in china. They are crap the part in the middle is legally called leather. It is legal in the USA to make a leather belt with pleather (plastic leather) shredded and recompressed and it can be sold as a leather belt. I know of no one in this leather forum that would make such a belt. All of the belts in here are real leather!!

    The stuff you need is called HDPE get the 3\4" or 1 inch. I have the 1" red it ain't cheap but it works the best. It comes in a sheet or half sheet or any size you might want. Ebay has lots of it so does the web use search engine for HDPE sheet.
  20. My FWIW I agree with the old grumpy guy. I don't use the backing tool from Tandy. I use a piece of 3/4" steel plate to back the snap when I set it. Nothing but flat after that.
  21. If it were my money I would purchase the Consew. Pfaff and Adler both have an equal machine. The Adler is a 167 or 367 flatbed walking foot. I have the Adler 167 it is an older machine but it works great parts aren't to expensive. Consew would be less money for the parts. Pfaff is the just about the most expensive machine you can get and also the parts ridiculously high. Pfaff is a great sewing machine. The cobra is a Chinese knock off I don't know anything about it.

  24. I use the rivet on nose bands for the barrel racers. This is 5 layers of 10oz bridle it will not come apart. The flat head would naturally go on the inside of the harness so as not to harm the horse.
