  1. Truth be told, I don't know what I mean, neither. But that's a 794 needle I like the LL point needles. Aint gotno 25's though.. just lots of 24's. I ordered some in 25 from wuna the boys around here, but instead I got "D" point and a story about how it's the 'same thing' Did I mention I want the LL points?
  2. What series? What machine is it for?
  3. File uploaded discussing the 'tech' behind why the stitch lines are where they are. This 'theory' stuff is separated from the instruction files since many want to make holster patterns but aren't interested in that math stuff. Incredibly boring -- do NOT read this file unless there's something wrong with you .. like you're a machinist or draftsman, or such Cut it down about as much as I could and still make the point. But it IS a 2-yawn article, so IF you are using my layout instructions and want to know where the numbers come from, then ... well, don't say I didn't warn you. HOLSTER PATTERN THEORY
  4. Oh.. worth noting, your passport booklet is nearly the same size (1/2" shorter vertically), so this could just as easily be used for either or both. Or you could reduce the height of this by that 1/2" for the passport folder. Get it...worth "note" ing .. This is a picture, not intended to be full scale. I'll make it prettier (and verify the use of 3/4 oz) before uploading the 'done deal', but this will work.
  5. Man, those arrived QUIK. Pattern gone through with actual numbers now, but I'll have to make one. I originally thought 3/4 oz leather, but these things are even more flimsy than I thought, and 3/4 might be a bit much for this..... guess I'll know soon
  6. Yeah, as a rule I do like W/C leather. But these days, I want to see that prior to purchase too. Some waste is expected, but .... I don't know if they offer a "bend" like you were talking about, but they do sell backs, which is the bend with the single shoulder (or a side with the belly cut off, same thing). I distributed a good bit of W/C leather recently for less than half what I paid for it. It was NOT worth $10 per foot, I would NOT have paid that had I seen it ahead of time, and I will NOT sell it to someone else at that price. So instead, I just 'took the hit' and mark it up to [yet another] lesson about buying leather. But I will say that W/C has sent me some absolutely BEAUTIFUL leather in the past, and if I was in PA I'd likely be camped on their porch
  7. All the leather aprons I've seen were made from about 3-4 oz suede cowhide. And I would absolutely recommend S-T Leather. Great leathers, but they keep costs down by not having you pay for their (excessive) advertising Personally, I probably would go with denim or canvas for myself, maybe add some lightweight leather POCKETS.
  8. Well, I know I'm going to sound like the 'stuffy' old guy again I don't order either of these. SLC has had theirs returned repeatedly (can't say I didn't give them enough chances) and the 2 sides I ordered from Weaver were so bad it was insulting and I don't intend to order there again. Skip that "anybody can make a mistake", or "give em a chance to make it right" (which I did, when I sent them my money). Truth is, I dont' want to do business with anyone who even has that in their "A" pile. Maybe they honestly don't know the difference. Or maybe they do, but they think I don't. Either way... Not to say that EVERY piece at those places is bad. But I've seen enough that I no longer buy leather I haven't seen. So, instead of just complaining, I offer a suggestion. If you don't have call to order 10 sides from H.O., get a couple guys in your area who could use 2 or 3 sides each and split an order. It's $8 "A" grade instead of $12 "B" grade.
  9. Maybe I read that wrong, but I thought he specifically wanted LR -point needles. Yes? No?
  10. NEVER gits old hearing that, Bob --- welcome, and glad I could help!
  11. Yeah, I'm still at the point of 'if it aint for you, don't watch it'. In all the videos I've seen, I actually recommend ONE of them. And I recommend it because of one simple fact: at the end of the video, you could actually DO what you were supposed to learn from the video. Doesn't mean everyone will do it, but they COULD. If what you were told you would learn isn't there, then it's just useless noise. If the next guy wants to watch a bunch of videos, that's -- as they say -- no skin off my nose But, I might be able to show 'em how-to WITHOUT that poo
  12. Yep, everywhere any more. Hermann Oak leather is about $8 / ft from them . and that's the "A" grade. Go somewhere else, and pay $11 and up for B or even C grade. I've never had much respect for "retailers".. which is of course another way of saying 'we don't make anything, we just want to get paid for what somebody else makes".
  13. These folks got 'em up to size 19 (and they're FAST). http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Groz-Beckert-135X16LR-Leather-Needles-For-Sailrite-Ultrafeed-Consew-CP206R-/401049598968?var=&hash=item5d606b3bf8:m:mFIJehXZgfs1biItZLGQ1jg
  14. That's actually a good point. I've always liked to see belt keepers made from the same hide as the belt (but split down some) for exactly that reason, so not sure why I missed it with holster liners
  15. That's a NICE lookin seat. But to git me watchin' videos, gotta put a girl in it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWNKHi2joJE
  16. Finally remembered to order those silly little notebooks, so when they arrive it won't take long to lay out teh FULL SIZE pattern for this. Long as I'm at it, I guess I'll make one for the passport case as well. Really no idea why a fella would pay for both, when they're so much the same, but maybe I'll just lump 'em into one section.
  17. Late to the party on this one. That looks NICE, which we are used to from you!
  18. Already have a pancake style holster pattern you like? Turn it into the "avenger" model quickly and easily! http://www.jlsleather.com/sdm_downloads/leather-pattern-making-avenger-holster/ No log in, subscription, or video required
  19. Not sure what other issues you're having -- but 2/3 will work. This one for a Ruger Redhawk. And some folks around here seem to like two layers of 4/5, so kind of each his own type thing. Any of those will work.
  20. What's not perfect? It fits that big gun, carries ammo, smooth consistent stamping design, nicely lined and nicely stitched, and in time for Father's Day. What's not to like
  21. I don't use a iphone, but 1.5M is a pretty big pic. No way to reduce the file size?
  22. I can't grasp what I would learn from watching someone saddle stitch for an hour. Okay, make a stitch line (or a gouge). Fair enough. Now, stab with the awl on the line so it comes out the line on the back side. All good. Now, left thread through, now right thread through, pull up. All great. Now, do it again. Now, do it again. Now, do it again. Now, do it again. Now, do it again. Now, do it again. Now, do it again. That one guy is correct.. if it aint for you, don't watch it. Personally, I think it ranks right up there with the new refrigerators with installed cameras.. so you can check your smart phone at the grocery to see if you need eggs. Honestly, are we THAT lazy we can't check before we go to the grocery ... ?
  23. Hmmm.. not much interest here. No matter, I guess other people prefer their drill press version too
  24. Yeah, there's a mouthful! Back when we had employees, there were always some who 'just didn't understand' and wanted to be shown again (instead of doing the work). Which is of course one of the big reasons I will never have employees again I'm not "anti-video". But when a 'how-to'' video is over, you should know how to do that yourself, or you're wasting your time. Common sense says you don't need a 45 minute video to make a project you can make it 20 mins But it IS true that some people just like to be there without actually doing anything. I've seen some of those Tandy 'classes' (though never sucked into one myself) which appear to be a social hour, where people can pay to hang out with other people who weren't doing anything either. But ocassionally, you find one or two who really does want to learn something. So in the end, I suppose people will continue to make long-winded videos, more of a low-rent self-promotion than an instruction, and I'll keep making simple instructions which make those wordy 'shows' even more unnecessary than they originally were
  25. TOO funny, though I wonder if THEY think they are 'celebrity' or if they just want YOU to think so But yeah -- that's exactly what I mean.
