A holster that alows a weapon to be discharged while still holstered, or a purse with an attached holster that alows the weapon to be fired without unholstering is defined as "other Weapons" by the ATF and falls under the NFA (National Firearms Act), and are not made legal by having a CC permit. If they are not of a type previously approved by the ATF they must have a BATF Tax stamp (refer to the NFA). Even with a ATF Tax Stamp some stated do not allow "Other Weapons". State of Washington issues a Concealed Pistol License it specifically allows you to carry concealed a pistol as defined by state law it does not allow you to carry concealed Knives over 3.5" or "Other Weapons". Again don't take anyones word for it, check with the ATF. I to am a Concealed Carry Instructor and fire arms instructor.

Putting the gun inside a wallet type holster is what can be the problem. There are some on the market that are legal with out any special provisions but they have been approved by BATF. The March /April LeatherCrafters and Saddlers Journal has a good article pertaining to the wallet holster, it is on page 51. Also if the holster is fixed to the inside of the purse and is designed so that it can be fired from inside the purse without unholstering then the purse may be defined by BATF as "other type of weapon". Don't take my word or anyone elses word on this especially anyone that says don't worry it's ok. They aren't the ones that will be making the arrest. Your best bet if you design something is to contact the BATF and submit a drawing and explanation to them they will provide an answer in writing. The written approval is your protection. I have been using Bunkhouse tool CO/Duckcreek traders holster molds for a couple of years I have all of their cowboy and percusion molds and they work great.

I have bought seveal from him all good quality and all recieved in a very short time considering where they are being shipped from.

Just to throw my two cents in, after you have made hundreds or even thousands of projects as many experienced people on this site have done you can look at a project and get a sense of the thickness of the leather used in a project and come pretty close to telling the thickness of the leather. If the OP is saying it is 8oz he may have measured it andis correct on the other hand I have been sold leather and told the thickness of the leather only to measure and find out it was incorect. It does look like ihas been doubled and does look thick. If the OP did laminate two thicknesses of leather together he is corect it is 8 oz leather however the end result is thicker.

Forgot to address the cross. If you were going to do it as an anlay yes you would hve to do a stitch line othewise over time th edge may lift and it may be posible that the inlay could even come out. However depending on how wide the edge would be surounding the cross you may be able to get away with just one stitch line.

As to the concave aspect it does not excite me, however it is your holster so make it the way you want and in your introduction you mentioned the creative aspect. I was merely pointing out that the way the desing looks in your paper mock up that those pointed areas as circled in the drawing will become beat up pretty quickly. Look at the hundreds of holsters on this siet and over on cascity.com on the leather shop forum. In most cases the only time you will see sharp corners on a holster is someones early attempts at holster making. I like the tooling as exampled in your post. Here is an example of similar desing on two holsters.

Overall the pattern looks ok. I would think about rounding the corners on the bottom of the skirt and the holster. You will find that sharp corners on leather get dogeared and beat up looking pretty quickly, they also have a tendacy to catch on things. The cross could be mounted with brads or copper rivets. I think I would JB Weld a couple of chicago screws to the back of the cross punch a couple of holes in the strap for the chicago screws and mount it that way. I f you wanted to take the time to do a double layer strap and cut out a cross shape window you could do it as an inlay.

Model and will it be cocked and locked?

Making pickup man chaps is like making two sets of chaps the outer layer is 3-4oz with the lining being 3-4oz with high density foam layered in between. The tops or yokes of the chaps 8oz. They are a bit of work. If you do a search on Leatherworkers.net for pickup man chaps I think you will find a thread or two with some examples.

I believe that the formal title of the set you have is The Art and Secrets to Advanced Western Holster Making. That is the set that I have and I have never found a reference to another set fothree DVD's by Bianchi. It discusses care and sharpening of the round knife, pattern making and all the steps of making a Buscadero rig.

Those are definately embossed look at the edges were the design over runns the edge of the item.

Jolly, have your customer take his unloaded firearm and put it between his belt and pants then have him draw the firearm at different angles, he will soon determine on his own that he will get a better draw with a cant.

I don't usually critique other peoples work, I know at timees my own work has things that need improving. However it looks like you are sincere in your attempt to jump into this and try to make money selling your items. I don't mean to sound harsh but it is not going to happen the way you are doing it. Again I don't mean to be harsh I want to help you succeed. As pointed out above there are many areas that need improving before you can expect to get the money you are asking. You want over $200.00 for an I pad case that looks similar to a $30.00 tandy kit with painting that looks like it was done by a 5 year old kid (you colored outside the lines) the paint is not consistent. I don't see any of your items with finished edges, it does not take expensive equipment to burnish edges. When I look at your little coin purse the first thing that hits me is that the edge of the flap is not cut well it is not a smooth arc or half circle the second thing that hits me is that the stitching holes are gigantic. Get an awl (there not expensive) it will give you far better sitching holes then a punch. The coin purse looks like a kids summer camp project. Ok that enough. Again I don't mean to be harsh just trying to point out some harsh realities. I would rework some of the finished projects like burnishing edges then try to sell them. As to the I pad case I would do another one with a better paint job and put that up as an example. Good luck and keep working at it.

The biggest advantage is the easy removel of the holster. If you are carring but have to enter a gun free zone such as hospital, court building etc. it is a little easier to unsnap and remove the holster and then resnap when you are ready to put it back on, then to undo and un thread the belt re thread the belt in your pants rebuckle and then repeat the process when you go to put the weapon back on.

If you are looking for true sterling silver hat band buckles you probably won't find any mass produced. Did you contact Montana silver smiths direct they may have what you want on an order basis. Also try Appaloosa trading company http://www.appaloosadurango.com/hbkn.html they have 3/4" sets for $345.00 they sell hat bands with sterling buckle sets and may have some available with out hat band also they do custom work. No $345.00 is not a missprint for sterling silver it will be expensive and again they are not mass produced. At least I have not found any mass produced sterling silver.

Most of the ones I make are 2 1/2" wide. Unless your customer has some pretty big shoulders the edge of that bandolier will be up against the neck. Does he have a purpouse for having it 4" wide? Making the bandolier is pretty straight forward - lay your strip across your shoulder bring it across your chest and back now cross the two ends at your waist at about the heigght that will be correct for the length you want. Mark where the two ends cross. I stitch a diamond were the ends cross (see picture) then trim the excess. The bandolier part is easy. I would oil it then use Montana pitch blend or Skidmores cream Both are natural product using a mix of Bees wax mink oil and other products. Either product will give it protection with a rich low gloss look.
