  9. I believe Midas tools were discontinued in 1980.
  10. Some people will tell you 3-4oz some people will tell you 4-5oz. Most of the time I use 4-5oz. The main reason is that I am lazy and I can get pre cut cartirge loop strips from springfield leather they sell them in 50" lengths from 1/2" width to 2" width. The 1/2" width by 50" is about $5.99 retail (bought a month ago) cheaper if you are on their dicount program. I have done many gun belts with these strips and they work quite well. They are in their catalog pg 138 of their 2012 catalog, have not gotten the 2013 catalog. They are not in their on-line listing. Give them a call and tell them you want cartridge loop strips and the width they will help you out. I reccomend using veg tanned leather and thats what these are. Springfield leather 1- 800- 668- 8518. If you go over to cascity.com and click on their leathershop forum then click on FAQ how to, look for the one on cartridge loops you will find alot of information on how to do them including spacing . stitching, woven, semi woven etc.
  11. You may be able to get a screw on chuck to fit one of the spindles on your buffer then you can chuck in the drill press style.
  12. Jason beat me to it. Springfield leather does carry it and some other similar stamps it is listed as R452
  13. Tandy's Premium is Tandy's best but not necassarily the best. For quality products stick with Herman Oak or Wickett & Craig. They are bot US tanned, Tandy's hides are import. You will find better consistancy in the HO or W & C. The price difference is not that much but the quality is. Thats my opinion.
  14. Alot of Clay Millers are around $35.00 including the diamond plate stamp. https://www.facebook.com/notes/leather-stamps-by-clay-miller/stamps-price-list/356218244430756
  15. I have had to do that on occasion. First take you stamp and put it on the impression see if you have enough of an impression to feel the stamp fit in to place so that you know it is aligned properly. If so, case your leather like normal when you belive it is ready fit your stamp onto the impression til you feel it fit down into the impression. And stamp. Since it is your own and you know who made it any way there is no harm in trying.
  16. I do lined holsters (leather flesh side to flesh side) all the time. I cut my pattern out on one piece then take and glue that to asecond piece of leather cut off the excess of the second piece. now I treat it as one piec of leather, so instead of two pieces of 5-6 oz I now look at as one piece of 10-12 oz. If you have done agood job of laminating they will act as one piece when you assemble stitch and mold the holster. Now having said that you did not state the style of holster you are making.
  17. Does not appear that your link is working there is aan error message when clicked.
  18. Are you looking for a one time item or are you looking for some one to do production work? What kind of item do you want made?
  19. what make and model machine did you get? T70 69 is nylon upholstery thread. I use 270 for sheaths and holsters. some use a combination of heavier thread on top (270) and lighter thread on the bobbin (207).
  20. I have not heard of cooking the vinegaroon. I make mine simply by dissolving the steel wool in the vinegar. To see if your will do the job simply dip a scrap piece of leather in the roon, it should almost immediately start to change color. I leave mine in the roon for just a couple of minutes. It should be grayish black to black. Then dip in baking soda wash and rinse with cold water, then lightly oil and let dry. I understand the soaking in tea to add extra tannins to the leather and it will definately help deepen the black. Go to cascity.com and click on the leather shop forum under the FAQ section there is a thread on old time dyes vinegaroon is discussed in length with input from Chuck Burrows and Will Ghormely.
  21. Do you have pictures, how close is your stitch line to the fire arm, what type of leather are you using - shoulder, belly, back? I use primarily shoulder or back, use the formula of one half the thickness of th gun plus one thickness of the leather to find my stitch line. I put my mold or gun in the holster when it is good and wet Should be pretty snug feeling putting the gun into the holster then using finger pressure start rubbing the outline of the gun until you can start to see some defenition then use boning tool ot other objects to refine the detail. Some people use heat to ste and harden the holster such as a small oven at 125 degrees or a drying box with a hair dryer blowing air into the box. I usually just set mine in the warmest place in the house to dry.
  22. Thanks for sharing Jim. We much appriciate your patterns.
