  1. When you say multi blade knife I think you might mean a blade with multiple edges. I have several hair blade for my swivel knives. Tandy does not seem tocarry the hair blade anymore but does have a hair tool http://www.tandyleat...s/88013-00.aspx it has a blade with multiple edges that cut several fine lines at once simulating hair. The tool actualy has a blade at each end one is fine and the other is course. Hope this helps. Just checked Zack Whites and they have the hair blades for swivel knives. http://www.zackwhite.com/Midas-Swivel-Knife-Blades_p_1834.html
  2. Have you talked tot he tiptons at Bunkhouse tools, they are good people and may be willing to price match if you tell them you are between there machine and Tandy's. I havwe bought a fir amount of stuff from them and have been happy with everything I have gotten from them.
  3. It is still worth checking out membership is cheap has a monthly news letter with good articles, on line information etc. Even if you can't make it down to there meeting or only once in a great while, it might still be worth your while to check it out.
  4. Because holsters and sheaths are all different shapes and sizes I don't think you will find a carving pattern for a spider web specificaly for a sheath or holster. What I do is use my patern and draw an outline on a piece of paper then look at drawings of spider webs on the net and draw the web to fit with in the outline of the holster or pattern. For the most part I draw out the pattern on the leather lightly with pencil then use a swivel knife to cut the lines then bevel those cuts. Here are some examples that may get your creative juices flowing.
  5. They look pretty good. What did you use for a finish?
  6. Not sure if you meant to post pictures. A picture or two would be of help.
  7. You might also take some of the work that you have done or will do and put it in the critique forum. The people here will offer you helpful advice on what needs to be improved and how to improve it.
  8. It's practice, practice,,practice. Find some tutorials on you tube or else where on something you would like to make, watch the tutorial geather up what you need to do the project and watch the video again. Start the project and follow the tutorial that way you can back up and watch over any areas you need to. Then do the project again until you get the quality you are looking for. There are some people that are just born with talent, however for many of us it is a learned skill that comes by doing.
  9. I just finished a knife and sheath for a customer. The customer wanted a horizontal carry sheath. What I came up with can be carried on the left side for a right hand cross draw or on the right side for a left hand cross draw. The leather was treated with EVOO then sun tanned and finished with Montana Pitch Blend. The knife has a handle of spalted maple burl, and a small piece of iron wood.
  10. I have not personally tried it myself however there is a maker on cascity.com (leathershop forum) and occasionally on this site boothill bob he uses the space bags and vacuum looking at the work he does it seems to work for him. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=48288&hl= this is a sample of his work and he used a space saver bag and vacuum and or course additional hand bonning.
  11. Mjolnir131, click on the picture scroll down to bottom where it says save, cliick on save this will open the picture in a new window. Right click on the picture a menu will open scroll to save picture as left click select where you want to save the picture - pictures, desk top etc.
  12. Ray, is this similar to the case you are talking about (see pictures below). From your description it sounds like the type of stitching I use for sewn in toes on holsters. The needle passes through the center of the leathers edge so that when you look into the case you cannot see any stitching. I would be up for the challenge. Can any thread be used or are you wanting natural linnen thread which is probably what was used originally. I have some barbours thread which if not what they used would be pretty close.
  13. Black river laser just put out a set of templates for doing the Gunfighter stitch also called the Boot stitch or Fish tail stitch. In a couple of days they will be putting out the templates for those that use sewing machines. Blackriverlaser.com they have an ebay site that has more items then is on their web site. http://stores.ebay.com/BLACK-RIVER-LASER/_i.html?rt=nc&_sid=317072061&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=2
  14. What kind of hole do you want to make, what is the hole to be for? If it is stitching holes an awl blade. I have an awl blde chucked into a drill press (that is not plugged in) make it nice for punching a lot of stitch holes. If you have the dremel mounted like a drill predd it will work the same. Some people drill there holes, I don't. That is another discussion, you can do a search and find some threads with discussions about drilling or not drilling. For round holes round punches for belt holes oblong punch or round punch hole at each end of the slot and connect the holed with a wood chisel.
  15. Longtooth, I believe that was made by Beary Bearman http://leatherburnishers.com/ Ed and Beary make great stuff I have 2 burnishers and two of their mauls. They are works of art and are a joy to use.
  16. When you open the reply window scroll down to where you see attach files click on browse select photo and attach just like you did in the original post.
  17. Your right I went to the nearest Tandy to me and they did not have a single one of the items in that flyer that I wanted including the leather that is on sale they did not even have it in their wharehouse. I was told that if one store some place has an item it goes in the flyer. It seems to be a ploy to get you in to the store figuring even if they don't have what you want they will be able to sell you something. I guess we have gotten off track of the original posters question.
  18. Like RiverCity said you need to get some basics before you start worring about opening a shop. If you jump into the deep end of the lake with out knowing how to swim you will most likely drown. Start getting basic tools make a few things to give to family or sell to people you know. Get feed back to see if you are making a sellable item. Make some items and post them on this web site, you may want to put them under the critique forum and get some feed back from the knowlagble people on this web site. Then start selling at farmers markets fairs etc. Once it looks like you have products that will sell then start developing your business plan.
  19. I Have sent you a PM. If you are not familiar with this site scroll up to the top you will see an envolope it should be red, open it.
  20. This is a couple of hours away from you , they have a news letter and other resources. Pugetsound Leather Artisans Coop. http://pslac.org/read_about_pslac.htm
  21. Before I even offer up anything what did you oil it with, and are just trying to get close to the original color back and restore some of the nutrients in the leather?
  22. You might read this thread and contact some of those posters. I don't know if they ever got anything going. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2337
  23. Anyone know of a dummy gun for S&W 22A or one that will work for it?
  24. Reuben, check with Joyce at Blackriverlaser.com she is going to be putting out a set of acrylic templates for laying out the gunfighter stitch for 1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 3 " belts.
