  1. They are upholstry tacks. The same ones as well as the conchos can be found at conchos.com http://www.conchos.c...ric-hammer.html (scroll down the page you will see them)
  2. If you have doccumentation that shows he agreed to $1000.00 per saddle, then you have a email sying he is not going to pay the $1000.00 for the second saddle you should be in good shape. The shipping is his problem and should not have been a concern of yours. You also have no agreement with him to pay him anything and there fore no liability for his so called intrest. Thats just my opinion not a legal opinion. I f htis is costing him money my guess is he was not building these saddles for his own use it sounds like he attempted to build the saddles for someone else and couldn't so he sub contracted out to you. When he says he is charging 8% on unpaid accounts makes it sound even more like he has a business. I think he screwed up and now he's trying to get money out of you to make up for it.
  3. Kate beat me to it I second Bruce Johnso. As to leather if you are looking for horse I would contact Horween they are a tannery buy direct if you are going to buy quanity. What kind or style of belts are you looking at making. Horse will work especially if you want thin belts, veg tanned is needed if you are going to do any tooling, Bullhide also makes a very strong belt.
  4. You could use a product like Nanonext Nano Suede Sealant or other spray on suede sealers. For the most part a pocket holster like that does not really need anything. It will over time become somewhat burnished just through use. If you are concerned about exposure to heavy sweating then seal but also if it does get dampened by sweat blot it dry as much as posible this will help keep th salts from sweat from building up .
  5. When I make gun belts for concealed carry they are double layered and come out to about 1/4" thick, my western gun belts are made with around 10 oz and lined with around 4oz. on my concealed carry pant/belt gun belt I stop the liner just short of where the buckle goes. If you line the whole thing including where the buckle goes you will have to skive that area down to allow it to fold oaround the buckle.
  6. I make mine at least 1/4" usualy 3/8" for small knives and the welt for medium to large knives is at least 1/2" you need to make sure you have plenty of room for your stitch line. Here are a couple more tutorials that may help if you have not already found them. This one is from Chuck burrows a mexican loop pattern and tutorial. http://www.wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/mexloop/_mexloop.html This tutorial is on how to make a Randal style sheath and is picture intensive and pretty detailed http://www.bladeforu...l(Pic-intensive).
  7. There are a bunch of knife making tutorials out there just google, also go to knife forums such as knifedogs.com knifenetworks.com blade forums. North coast knives has tutorials on afew different types of sheaths. http://www.northcoas...atherSheath.htm Here are some more http://bensbackwoods.blogspot.com/2009/09/need-sheath-make-your-own-by-jim.html http://eastof29.tripod.com/daqotahforge2/id37.html http://beebeknives.com/html/make_a_sheath_tutorial.html Also do a search for how to make a sheath video i think there are several you tube tutorial videos. Hope this helps. I make quite a few sheaths so if you need help or have questions feel free to PM me.
  8. I have ordered from Rob on a couple of occasions and have two on order from him now. He is very upfront about wait times and currently has a warning posted on his sight that it is taking time because of all the orders not just to him but orders from rings in general. He does try to keep people informed but if rings does not get them to him he can't get them to you. Trust me ordering direct from rings is no faster.
  9. Glad you found what you were looking for.
  10. Montana Silver smiths has them http://search.aol.co...triangle concho not cheap about $5.70 ea. Try searching triangle concho you might come up with somemore. Just checked conchos.com they have the rivet back considerably cheaper. http://www.conchos.com/bs91brsitrco1.html
  11. There are other makers of holster molds some of their listing differ from Rings although Rings has the biggest veriety some of the other makers have ones that Rings does not. Bunkhouse tool company http://www.bunkhousetools.com/GunLeather.php can be found on ebay as duckcreek traders. Blackhawk and ASP there is also Duncans Outdoor they make cast metal molds. If they don't have what you want they will take your name and what you want if they get enough requests they will make it. Form Bunkhouse you have to download there list frequently as it changes.
  12. I don't know what trouble you are having or what type of loops: sewn, woven semi woven but go to this thread and scroll down to my post some of that information may help you. I usually make mine out of 4-5oz leather and use the measurments listed for each caliber in that post. Also go to cascity.com http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,9631.0.html There is a lot of information there on doing varios types of loops. If you like PM me tell me where you are having trouble and I will help if I can. I do mainly western holsters so I do a lot of loops.
  13. Here is one that I did. I used a real mag and a dummy mag placed them where I wanted them (space wise) and taped them down on a piece of particle board. Then I laid a oversized wet piece of leather over them. I used my Seal a meal vaccum machine. I slid the whole thing, taped down mags on particle board with oversized wet leather into the vacumm bag and vacumm sealed it. once the the machine was done with its work I used a pice of polished antler to detail mold the mags working the middle as deep and flat as I could then working around all the edges and bttom of the mags. I left the everything in the vaccumm sealed bag for about a half hour then cut open the bag removed the magazines and let dry completely. I had my back cut to size. When the front was dry I laid it onto the back positioned it where I wanted it glued it dow. When the glue was dry trimmed the excess laid out my stitch line and sewed. This is the end result and both the customer and I are hppy with it.
  14. Nice holster, I like the diamond stamp also. I just did a snap removable (Axiom style) for a friend who bought a GP 100.
  15. I figure along with each a mail we can send him a picture of an item (band) with shot shell concho. If you don't have an item you have made with shell conchos go on the internet and send him a picture of something being offered. In addition to what Chuck found I did a search of shotgun concho, shotshell concho, shot shell concho and found close to a hundred offerings of belts, gun belts, wrist bands, collars and suspenders with shot shell conchos.
  16. Personally I believe the best way to deal with this guy is to post his email address here. We will all be happy to let him know what we think of his patent. Detriments of Design Patents Design patents do not protect the functional features of an invention (most inventions have functional features). Design patents can be relatively easy to design around by simply changing the overall appearance of the competing product. Difficult to protect different variations of product.
  17. I did notice that in the thumbnail of the design patten it says as shown below. Well what is shown below is 7 conchos on a band so use any number except 7 and you are not infringing on his patten
  18. Don't be detered from free enterprise by some scam artist. The shotshell casing end decoration was not invented by him they have been for sale for many years. THe purpouse for them was to adorn leather crafts of all types. They have been put on everything from belts to holsters to purses and yes even dog collars. I did one like that for a duck hunter back in about 2006 and have done a few since then. It is such a basic design element that I would never have thought of patening it simply because I put a concho on a strip of leather. I believe that person would have a hard time defending it as his original design. You want to sell it sell it (not legal advice just what I would do). If it is a scam that person is unlikely to spend the money on attorney to pursue you. It looks like they are just hoping you are an easy mark and can get money from you without earning it.
  19. Frank, great tutorial. I have just one question how do yu determine the distance between the inside and outside cut?
  20. Have not found the one I am looking for but went through my pattern packs and tandy's pattern Pack holsters and gun belts 6031 has a pattern they call a pistol caddy. Same design as the one pictured on theis thread. It has a pattern for the zipper gusset and instructions for sewing the zipper. You can find the pattern at your Tandy store (mine has it in stock) or you can down load it from tandy's on line library. I think the digital down load is $6.99
  21. I just seen a pattern for these it was called a pistol rug. I can't remember if it was Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal. I will look and see what I can find.
  22. I do like Jaymack for cutting Belt loop slots. You need a very solid work surface with little bounce. I put a poly board between my work and the work surface. Locate and measure where the slot is to go. I take an appropriate round size round punch and punch a hole at each end of where the slot will go. I then use an appropriate size wood chisel to connect the two holes. If its an 1 1/2" slot a 1 1/4" wood chisel should work to connect the holes. Positioning the chisel will take a little practice. It usually gives me a pretty good looking ssmooth slot.
  23. Thanks, I knew there was some place else to look for this I don't know why I did not scroll down to computer help.
