  1. Thanks for sharing. That's a really nice piece!
  2. You're using chrome tanned leather, and you are looking for vegetable tanned leather.
  3. I think those tandy prongs are for lacing, or really thick thread. The dividers with regular pricking irons would work just fine, but you need to have more than one iron; one that has many teeth for the straight runs, and one that has two teeth for the corners and bends.
  4. I just discovered this, and have been using it for a week. Really nice. http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/B0016ZZOEK Use this with a ruler to mark a straight line near the edge, and then use your pricking irons to mark / punch holes
  5. Where did your friend get the leather? It's a rejected hide from Hermes? Seems to have a lot of creases in it.
  6. Barge cement will work, and is available at Tandy. Just make sure to use it properly. Coat both surfaces, let dry for a bit, and then press together. Try a practice piece first, of course. If you want PVC, try this: http://apps.webcreate.com/ecom/catalog/product_specific.cfm?ClientID=15&ProductID=18847 Produces a VERY strong bond.
  7. Yeah, that might work normally, but I'm making some wallets from alligator skin ($$$)
  8. Thanks Electrathon, I just ordered a couple skins.
  9. Anyone know where I can get very thin leather, for use on the interior of a wallet?

I received the catalog, and the products look nice - but only consumer goods. I guess I will try to contact them directly.
  11. Is it just me, or does the thumbnail of your dog look really angry? When zoomed in she looks relaxed.

Also interested. Sent for a catalog - hopefully it will have pricing for hides.

I just found this, haven't used it yet. Anyone tried it? Looks really cool. http://www.exactflat.com/
  14. Doubt you would have a problem if you put it in your checked in luggage (not accessible to you)...
  15. I found an opaque white pentel pen at Michaels that works well on dark leathers. It rubs off with a little bit of moisture.
  16. Sylvia, I think a moderator probably removed the link to his store.
  17. Mod Podge is a PVA glue. FYI. It's good for joining leather together, but I believe it remains water soluble. try rubbing the edge with some warm water a few times and see if it holds up.
  18. You guys just need to look a little harder: http://www.pjtool.com/metalrussianalphabetstampsset.aspx
  19. I think it'd be better to also make/provide some things that aren't so generally available. Create a lower priced stitching clam, for example. Figure out how to produce pricking irons, etc...
  20. Plus, you are removing the strongest leather under the stitch by creating that channel...
  21. I mist with water on the flesh side, and use an iron. Don't iron directly on the finished surface. It helps.
