  1. I saw the tandy camo in the store the other day. It looks to be printed on split leather, not top grain...
  2. There is some for sale on ebay, but I don't know if they offer anything that fine leatheworking doesn't. Price is similar.

John, have you considered the idea of selling your leftovers or seconds on tannery row, similar to what Maverick leather does? You can use a platform like shopify.com, without needing to work with a design company or developers. Take pictures of what you have, post to your store, sell, and fulfill, all with a few clicks. I know this is probably not a big part of your business, but it would be a lot more effecient and profitable than the way things are being done at the moment.
  4. Here you go: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221399118007 I bought this, and it's some sturdy stuff!
  5. Those weights would work fine for a wallet too. I don't think it matters what cut you get for something like a wallet.
  6. Well, I would say that if it isn't fun for you anymore, then maybe you should find something else that is. It takes a lot of practice and knowledge to perfect your techniques in order to end up with exactly what you want...
  7. Thanks guys! One thing I need to consider in the future is that the handle causes the leather to flex. I reinforced it underneath with a thick vegtan strip connecting the handle rivets, but I think a metal strip would work better.
  8. Whipped this out yesterday for my laptop. Used horween leather, and the inside is unfinished. I think the top flap seems a bit wide, even though it is the same width as the front, back. What do you guys think? http://imgur.com/a/b37C2
  9. Thanks for sharing. That's a really nice piece!
  10. You're using chrome tanned leather, and you are looking for vegetable tanned leather.
  11. I think those tandy prongs are for lacing, or really thick thread. The dividers with regular pricking irons would work just fine, but you need to have more than one iron; one that has many teeth for the straight runs, and one that has two teeth for the corners and bends.
  12. I just discovered this, and have been using it for a week. Really nice. http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/B0016ZZOEK Use this with a ruler to mark a straight line near the edge, and then use your pricking irons to mark / punch holes
  13. David, do your cuts after joining the pieces.
  14. Where did your friend get the leather? It's a rejected hide from Hermes? Seems to have a lot of creases in it.
  15. Barge cement will work, and is available at Tandy. Just make sure to use it properly. Coat both surfaces, let dry for a bit, and then press together. Try a practice piece first, of course. If you want PVC, try this: http://apps.webcreate.com/ecom/catalog/product_specific.cfm?ClientID=15&ProductID=18847 Produces a VERY strong bond.
  16. Yeah, that might work normally, but I'm making some wallets from alligator skin ($$$)
  17. Thanks Electrathon, I just ordered a couple skins.
  18. Anyone know where I can get very thin leather, for use on the interior of a wallet?
  19. Nice! What kind of leather did you use?
  20. I received the catalog, and the products look nice - but only consumer goods. I guess I will try to contact them directly.
  21. Is it just me, or does the thumbnail of your dog look really angry? When zoomed in she looks relaxed.
  22. Also interested. Sent for a catalog - hopefully it will have pricing for hides.
  23. I just found this, haven't used it yet. Anyone tried it? Looks really cool. http://www.exactflat.com/
  24. Add me please.
