I did a Google search and found the last machine for cheaper. Not sure on shipping though. http://industrialsewingmachineman.com/machines/mach.asp?dir=clothcutmach&brand=Cobra&Model=NP4+Skiving+Machine&ProductType=Cloth+Cutting+Machines

I could imagine that it might help to wrap twice on thick leather in order to get the same look as one wrap on thinner leather; never tried it though.

Why get hung up on whether it is made in America? Go to Alibaba, perhaps? You can buy cheap crap from Asia, or you can buy nice stuff made in Asia. You'd probably be surprised how many of these things are made there; and good quality too.

Yes, it is for the angle. I also find I can have a more consistent look to the stitch line this way.

Sorry, 105 for Canada. It costs more to ship, and I'd have to fill out a customs form.

I have only used this pricking iron a couple of times. I bought it new, along with 2 and 11 tooth irons, and found that I don't use the 4 for my projects. First 100 bucks gets it with free shipping. I accept paypal.

Difference Between Vergez Blanchard Pricking Iron
Matt T replied to DavidL's topic in Sewing Leather
The prices listed on vergez blanchard are retail prices, and are similar, if not more, than what you can get them for here.. plus the large shipping cost. I have a 4 tooth 10spi that i can let go for 100 with free shipping, if you want. That's 10 bucks cheaper than anywhere else. I used it only a couple of times before deciding to go with the 11 and 2 tooth combo. -
Yeah, seems that they aren't selling first grade. Not surprising.

First Industrial Machine Purchase - Advice Appreciated!
Matt T replied to danicarby's topic in Getting Started
I'm not sure on the binder, but there is a big list of accessories that bob has to go along with the machines. I would call them up and ask.- 9 replies

First Industrial Machine Purchase - Advice Appreciated!
Matt T replied to danicarby's topic in Getting Started
I would buy from Bob, because you're not factoring in the ability to get service / support for your machine. Just recently I had a screw break in my bobbin case, and couldn't find a replacement part anywhere. Bob sent it to me for free. Those other machines will end up costing almost the same, have a lot more headaches and no support.- 9 replies

Very Intrigued With Leatherwork And Industrial Machines!
Matt T replied to danicarby's topic in Member Gallery
Welcome aboard. I like your designs, and if you will be making bags I suggest a cylinder arm machine. There are ad banners on the top of the page here for companies that sell the machines that most of us use here. I have a cowboy 227r, and it would work great for what you are doing. -

Hunio, how do you create the edging line around the corners? I always have issues with that; what tool do you use? Thanks -

It's a french made Vergez Blanchard; they are expensive. I have a 10 SPI 4 tooth iron that I haven't used. I haven't been in a rush to post it on ebay or anything, but if you want it I will let it go for 100 and free shipping. -
You either need to remove the liner first and reattach after, sew through the liner, or repair from the outside with some advanced needle work.

Honestly, I don't think they really care about being a retailer; they probably get a lot of inquiries asking for leather, and they set this up to shut us up. Most of us are only ordering one or two sides at a time, and they may consider it a distraction from their core business. They also might not realize the potential sales bump of having a better website with online ordering, especially if one of the new small time customers hits it big with a product made from their leather. Or maybe they are operating at close to capacity and don't want to grow right now. Who knows.

Something for yourself? Something to sell? To give to a friend? First things that come to mind are a wallet or phone holder

Yes, it is a sub-species of Boolsheetorium.

After two months of not being moved or handled, leather develops and harbours bacteria called lesipharunious, which will begin to eat away at the leather; slowly, but surely. If you need to make your products ahead of time, just be sure to go through your inventory on a monthly basis and rub the leather with your hand for a few minutes on each piece!

Several thousand. It didn't take me long to realize that buying cheap tools was a waste of time and money. Now I stick with the best: Vergez Blanchard hand tools, Fil Au Chinois thread, Cowboy 227rb, Skiving machine (essential), and fine leathers. I should add that my income is not from leather, and if it were, I might have a different story.

David, do you see the image in my earlier response in this thread? The black thread is 432 at 10 SPI. I usually use 532 with 10spi though.

Stain Dyed Calf Skin Card Wallet
Matt T replied to DavidL's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Your pricing is way too low. If it is just a practice piece and you don't feel comfortable selling it for what it should sell for based on materials and labor (2-5x, depending on your business model), then maybe you should give it to a friend as a gift to test out and give you feedback. -
I have ritza thread also; I use it when I need a thick thread, but it is flat right off the spool and I have to be careful when sewing or it will twist and look funny. The Fil Au Chinois is only flat in the picture because i hammered it down after I sewed. By the way, this is 432 size (second largest out of 5 sizes), and 10 spi.

Why Edge Kote Instead Of Oil Dye Then Gum Trag Then A Top Coat?
Matt T replied to Tallbald's topic in How Do I Do That?
Also, you can't finish chrome tanned leather the same way as veg tan, and edge paint becomes necessary.
