  1. Using a rotary cutter and ruler for cutting straight lines in thin leather. For thick leather, I find that the blade bends and doesn't cut perfectly straight. In that case, I use a ruler and a knife blade (not rotary) that doesn't bend.
  2. Here's a tip. If you want your beeswax in nice 1oz blocks, pour the heated wax into an ice cube tray. You'll need to pour twice though; the wax shrinks as it cools.
  3. Good news, I finally received the tips from the factory. Check it out: http://lekoza.com/Tools/MedallionPunches I still need to experiment with making the punches, but I've made the tips available for anyone who would like to make their own. Since the price starts to add up on patterns with a lot of holes, I had the tips designed in a way that they can be replaced / reused if you create a face plate on your punch.

  6. I think it depends on the type of leather. Horween recently found some leather in storage after 70 or so years, and one of their customers made some nice items from it. http://horween.bigcartel.com/product/vintage-calfskin-attache-case
  7. You have to order that much of a specific leather / color / thickness
  8. I have their pricking irons in three sizes.
  9. Probably, but sometimes there are issues which affect the entire hide. I would ask them before buying. They have good customer service.
  10. I use a block of rubber to take off extra rubber cement but it's hard to get it all off.
  11. In case you don't already know, Maverick's Horween is half price because it's second quality.
  12. Please let us know how it works out, and put a picture of your stitching if possible. That is a really good price.
  13. You have the right idea but there are a couple of issues you should consider. One is that you don't know if the minimum setting on that device is already too hot for the paint. The other problem is that there is no thermocouple feedback loop to maintain the proper temperature - the temperature will fluctuate depending on a lot of factors. If you just want to do something crude like this, you can do it even cheaper by going to home depot and buying a dimmer switch to hook up to a soldering iron. Get an electric box that holds two light switches. Put an outlet in one side, and a light dimmer in the other. Wire it up properly, and you're good to go. You might notice the soldering iron making humming noises but it's nothing to worry about.
  14. It works well with heat treatment. The factory that makes this paint (Stahl) makes the paint for Hermes, who use heat treatment on their edges.
  15. Monica, Horween sells this leather in limited quantities to customers who buy other leather directly from them or Tannery Row.
  16. You let it dry first and use it to shape / fine-tune the edge.
  17. Yeah, the other threads are round and the diameter sizing is an appropriate measurement for them. If you take a 1.0mm barbour thread, and lay flat a tiger 1.0mm thread next to it, they will look the same width from the top. From the side you will see the tiger thread is shorter. Tiger thread lets you have a fuller looking stitch with less bulk.
  18. You probably aren't going to use a thread that large (1.7) The tiger thread is flat which makes it hard to compare to a round thread of the same size. The tiger thread "diameter" is the thread width. Some of the really big threads are used for things like boot soles.
  19. Interesting, if true. I know they were getting a lot of leather from South America in the past.
  20. Thanks for the support guys! By the way, almost all colors of the 532/632 Lin Cable thread are now in stock. For those waiting on Vergez Blanchard tools, I am expecting the shipment from France tomorrow and will ship as soon as I can.
  21. Best way to skive is with a skiving machine, especially if you ever need to skive chrome leather.. You can get one on Ebay for 1k.

  23. Looks cool. If I were doing a lot of this work, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Time is money.
