  1. Beautifully done. My favorite is the first one, though both are very nice!
  2. I've always wanted to make a pair of moccasins... I guess I'll have to add this to my list of future projects. Yours turned out really great, by the way. Congrats!
  3. Spectacular! There was a recent thread where someone was asking why the only thing people carve is Sheridan flowers. Here's the perfect example of leather carving done in a completely different style.
  4. You know, I've never tried antiquing a project. You've just inspired me to try! Thanks for the tip.
  5. The "wasteland look" is about all that can be accomplished with those horrible $20 single shoulders! Don't get me wrong, I'm a faithful Tandy customer, but that leather is some rough stuff. Which makes your welding helmet an even more impressive accomplishment! Congrats! And those coasters look fantastic. What did you use to achieve the color? Nice work, my friend.
  6. Fritz, I'm sorry I'm a late-comer to your introduction. I just saw some of the images you posted to your Gallery, and WOW. That's some of the best sheathwork I've ever seen. Congratulations and...
  7. I'm not an expert in this area, but if I were doing a project like this, I'd purchase Eco-Flo dyes in the colors I needed and apply with a small artist's brush. (Larger areas I'd dye with a dauber.) I think one of the better examples of using Eco-Flo dyes to color a project is Freak's koi fish: http://leatherworker...?showtopic=8829 I went back through the Dyes and Antiquing forum and found a few interesting topics on acrylic paints, if that appeals more to you: ClayB's demo: http://leatherworker...showtopic=11979 Scouter's question on painting leather: http://leatherworker...p?showtopic=315 I hope this information helps!
  8. Yes... That's some fine-looking work you do!
  9. Terrahyd is right... There's a lot of really good information within the forums here. Given your interests in carving, stamping and coloring leather, I'd read up on properly casing the leather (for good carving and stamped impressions). Plus, learning about using Eco-Flo dyes and acrylic paint to color leather might also be useful. Finally, there have been quite a few patterns posted to give you some ideas. Happy reading!
  10. Tash, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. We've missed you.
  11. I love it -- especially the quilted background pattern. Kudos!
  12. Without trying to sound critical in any way , it looks to me like they simply used permanent markers, like Sharpies. I think better results could be achieved using acrylic paints or (my preference) Eco-Flo dyes. Just my two cents!
  13. I think your work looks superb. I'd be particularly interested in learning how you impressed the design into each bolt holster's flap. Welcome to LW.net and keep posting your pictures!
  14. Beautiful job! I love the tooling pattern chosen, as well as the colors. They complement the pistol very well.

    Hey all!

... to Leatherworker.net. This is a great resource for learning about leathercraft, with lots of knowledgeable and helpful people. We look forward to seeing some of your work. Even if you'd like to post a few photos of tattoos or pinstriping you've done... We all appreciate good craftsmanship. Regards, -Alex
  16. Nice to have you here. I'm curious to see and hear how your first projects turn out. Be sure to let us know! -Alex
  17. That really looks fantastic. Congrats!
  18. I've found that too much oil causes leather to "weep" plus (ultimately) helps break down internal fibers, so I always apply neatsfoot sparingly like you do, Ray. Just a light surface treatment. I am curious, though, about what Weaver's doing with their dipping vat. Did the video specifically say it was filled with neatsfoot oil? I wonder if it's some other kind of conditioner...

    Red leather

Aart, I've found achieving a nice, even red is easy with Eco-Flo dyes. Scarlet is a true red, while Cranberry is a bit darker. The following projects were done with Scarlet: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5048 I hope this information helps!
  20. Wow. That looks absolutely perfect to my eyes. Congratulations!
  21. Brilliant idea! Thanks for the tip, Kate and Pete.
  22. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Bruce. What a great way to honor his memory.
  23. Thanks for the nice intro, Brad. We hope you enjoy it here, and will stick around.
  24. Hi, DaCoda: Welcome to Leatherworker.net. It sounds like you're off to a good start with your beginning tool kit. Tandy will be a good place to get your leather, too. Belt blanks are an easy way to start building belts, and double shoulders will give you good-quality leather to create wallet backs, etc. If you have the option, it's always best to shop for leather in person so you know what you're getting. This site is a great place to ask questions and to search old threads for information. Virtually every topic has been touched upon at one time or another. Good luck, and we look forward to seeing some of your projects posted here in the future!
