Very attractive work -- congrats!
-
Surely one of the nicest collars posted here recently. Two thumbs up!
-
Looks great, David, even in black. Glad to hear your folks at SPS agreed.
-
I saw the handbags you posted in the Show Off forum, and I think it's safe to say you've come a long way in just five months. Looks like you have some natural talent going for you, so keep it up! Good to have you here.

Pancake Holster for Browning Hi Power
abn replied to ArcherBen's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks great. You got a lot of depth into that molding... Nice job. -
I agree 100%. If the design is better with the strap retainers, keep them. Don't compromise the quality of your work to save an hour. Simply charge a bit more.

Belt Samples
abn replied to leather1214's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Beautiful carving there. Congrats! -
It sounds like it was a heck of a task putting it all back together. But this is such a great resource, I think it was definitely worth it to make the effort. Kudos to everyone involved!

Wonderful job. LOVE that buckstitching!

I have to confess... I wasn't really serious about creating a "Masterpieces" forum... That was just my weird way of complimenting John on his superb pool cue case. However, it is kind of unfortunate that some of the finest work here gets buried in the midst of a thousand other posts. A good example... David Theobald's koi fish seat. It would be really nice to have that post easily accessible in a special forum, along with other work on that level. Here's how I would do it to keep it straight-forward. Instead of a contest, I think any member should be able to nominate someone's post for the "Masterpieces" forum. Then, another member should second the nomination. Finally, one of the forum moderators would have to approve and execute the move. That means two forum members plus an admin would have to agree that the work is on that level. Anyway, I hope my offbeat comment doesn't cause more work for our site administrators, but I have to agree with Leatheroo and others... Such a forum would be a nice addition... And nice recognition for some of our more expert craftspeople. Regards, -Alex

Glad to have you here. Fire away with questions, comments or pictures. Lots of helpful folks hanging around. Best, -Alex

We need to start a new forum entitled "Masterpieces" for those few projects, like this one, that simply transcend the "Show Off" forum... Fantastic job, John!

Bienvenido, Cocodrilo. It's good to have you here. Feel free to ask questions anytime. We have lots of helpful people here who can assist. Un saludo, -Alex p.s. We'd love to see some pictures of your work, too, if you're willing to post them.
-
Wow... Congratulations! I see you were even able to revive each post's images. (I know for a while it was thought that the images from the old posts were gone forever.) Outstanding job!

Agreed. They should be the same. But one performs differently than the other, at least on my PC. A while back, we were having similar issues with links that had the "www." in front of "leatherworker.net." Supposedly the same page, but not quite... On my end, I've seen the issue with IE7, Firefox 2.0.0.3 and 3.0. At least it seems like several of us who were having this problem have found a way around it now! Thanks for the suggestions posted in this thread. -Alex

Yep. It appears that those of us with the problem have bookmarks pointed to: http://leatherworker.net/forum The bookmark needs to be updated to point to: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php? Otherwise, some of us get the forbidden message.

I may have figured out something that can help... When I log in using the Log In link on the home page, I'm redirected to: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?a...gin&CODE=00 If I delete the last part of that URL (the &CODE=00) part, and use this one I'm fine: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?act=Login Maybe a clue?

Very nice -- as always! I especially like how the stitching follows the contour of the blade toward the bottom of the sheath, and then doubles back around the edge. Very classy. -Alex

Hi, I'm the other poor schmuck having this problem. Now, this is a very uninformed opinion, but... I think it's related to my user ID. I've tried on two different browsers and two different computers. I've recreated bookmarks, emptied caches... Same forbidden message. Forbidden You don't have permission to access /forum/index.php on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I envy Jo for having the patience to look into these types of problems... -Alex

JB Purses?

Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing the pics! -Alex -
Welcome, Jeremiah. Good to have you here! We look forward to seeing your pictures soon. Best, -Alex

JRB, Your best one-stop-shopping supplier may depend on whether you're a professional or a hobbyist. Some suppliers don't want to deal with you if you don't have a tax ID or are able to make a minimum purchase. If you're a hobbyist like I am, I think it's hard to beat Tandy. Their cheap leather is just that (cheap), but they have higher quality and higher priced alternatives. Overall product prices are competitive, especially if you're part of their wholesale club ($35 annually). The wholesale club starts paying off after about $150 worth of purchases. Selection is very good and so is the customer service at every store I've dealt with. -Alex

Andy, I'd send a PM to Ed Santoro (username: esantoro). He builds these kinds of bags all the time, and I'm sure he could give you some tips. -Alex
