    Issue solved

The steel that I use is L6. The procedure is cut steel to desired width. Put in Forge bring up to critical temp/ non-magnetic. Put pieces of Steel in vermiculite to anneal them overnight. Drill desired hole size after overnight annealing. Use chainsaw sharpening files to profile correctly. Once profile is obtained put the pieces back in the Forge bring them back up to critical temperature then quench them in proper oil. Then temper the blades at proper temperature for proper time. Then buff polish sharpen and keep doing it till you get them right. Good luck! It's really not that difficult as long as you know your Steel and process.
  3. The airbrush station has its own fan it actually pulls through two particulate filters and then through an activated charcoal filter that is two inches thick. I have actually laid fiberglass Micarta inside that station/ Hood and you could not smell any of the fiberglass resin. It is a system that's actually made by Sentry Air Systems Incorporated. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time and was able to acquire it.
  4. It sounds like you may be just doing geometric stamping if that's the case just get a mallet or make one out of delrin. I make my own mauls and delrin is my choice material but I do use them for basket weave stuff as well for my makers mark I use a dead blow hammer (plastic type) no bounce or stutter of my mark. my .02 cents
  5. Okay so after some tweaking and adjusting of the width both of my handmade Edge bevelers are a success! 1. During testing process and before finish . Yes dagnabbit I split one of the handles tapping the blade into it ! 2. Close-ups of the business ends. 3. The handles are maple the ferrules are half inch ID copper tubing. Believe it or not I turned the handles on my drill press. 4. Here they are after three coats of Danish oil and a nice thick slathering of Montana pitch blend, yes that's correct! It has beeswax, Pine pitch and mink oil in it so what better to put on the wood! Plus it's what I had on hand. They both cut wonderfully and smoothly which is exactly what I wanted I am pleased with them. Plus I know they will hold an edge far longer than the Tandy Leather Factory Edge beveler I have been using! As always comments and questions are welcome!

    Leather Strop

leather is good but a strip of duck canvas glued to the back side of that same board with jewlers Rouge on it would be hard to beat strop on it 1st then the leather. BAM! SCARY SHARP!
  7. never stock more than what you can use! it don't make money unless it's moving! plus I have it stored elsewhere for now. I'm still getting the new area together! plenty of storage space under three of the four tabes!
  8. I have one similar to the Tandy draw gauge only mine is all aluminum. And I put a handle on the blade. It works fine
  9. cool sent you a message check your inbox
  10. I turned the Delrin (white one mounted to motor) the stainless steel one was done for me when I first started before I started playing around on the lathe. If I had my way I would totally redo it and I still might. Are you in Tennessee also?
  11. heck yeah! jelly is good! thanks!

  14. Okay so this is a test of whether or not I can post pictures now. This is a picture of my latest versions of a head knife. They are L6 Steel. The larger of the two has hand laid Micarta scales, the smaller one has Bocote scales and mosaic pins.
  15. Thank you for the responses guys but I should have been more specific as to what I need. What I was looking for some good high resolution pictures or at least some really good close-ups of not homemade edgers but some good close-ups of edgers that people own that were purchased!
  16. 47 views not 1 reply!! I have made 2 edge bevelers since the original post. they are sharp but still having trouble with the angle and width I think ..still tweaking them and I managed to split a handle in the process of setting the blade...Oh well I will get it right or learn how not to hehe!
  17. Hey thanks for the replies guys I really appreciate it maybe I can post some of my stuff soon!
  18. So I'm having a lot of difficulty posting any of my photos to The Forum. I'm using my Samsung Galaxy S6 to take the photos and I have a lot of them that I have taken on my journey in leather working I would like to be able to resize them and post new photos but I need suggestions for an app that is actually worth downloading. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that I am using an Android device.

  20. Hello All! its been a great long time since I last posted. some of you may remember me but anyway here is a really short background. I started here because I wanted to make a seat for my Shovel. (avatar pic) I am very big into making as many of my own tools as possible (mostly cutting tools) I make knives and work with mostly 5160, L6 and 15N20 steel. my quest for making my own tools has brought me to the point of wanting to make my own edge bevelers. I have no intention in becoming a tool maker so these tools as like my head knives are one off and for my use only. I am currently working L6 steel on what I have started my problem is this. I cannot find a definitive profile of what edge to put on the business end. what I am looking to make is either a bissonette style or half bissonette (round edge?) SO what I am asking for is some GOOD close up PIX of QUALITY edgers NO TLF as I have one and its tired...I know my steels (the ones I use) I know my process (annealing, HT, tempering) for the materials i use. I just need more of a direction and my Google fu has failed me. I have not been able to find anything use full on DIY edge bevelers pictures of molested dinner ware are fine if that's what works for you and that is what you have to work with but not what I am looking for. So I have come to ask the COLLECTIVE for help. I will post pix of what my journey has lead me to up until this point at some time to include my new work area and tools. To all Thank you and as always thanks for this place...Sanch..flying NOMAD and solo...
