  1. Laaaazers....and machine stitches.....use 300 grit on the edges, saddle soap, water let dry till almost back to normal then burnish then dye black! your work looks impeccable by the way.
  2. Well as you said I should be able to spiff them up a little bit here they are before. and after shot. They go in slicker than pig poop on a rainy day and come out just the same. Quite possibly the best $20 I have spent on leather tools to date!
  3. I personally own 5. 2 of which I made myself to see if I could they are the ones I use the most. buy one good knife and a few blades in different configurations that's my two cents!
  4. gonna give that a try yup if the wax don't work that's next
  5. a recent purchase of these http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=121981417069&fdback=1 quick review: are they worth the $20 for the set of 5 in 4mm? heck yes. Jake used them on the wallet I posted for him the tines make a great diamond shaped hole. that's the pro they are fairly well made. now the con, they need a little "effort" to get out of the leather. in other words if they had a better polish they'd be spot on for $20 but for a set of 5 you can't do too bad good starter set if your pockets only have lint in em.

  7. He paid attention because it was something that he really wanted as far as the rest of the time well let's just say he's as hardheaded as I am Hey seems to have taken an interest so hopefully I can keep his attention with it he shows a lot of promise. That's a fine-looking knife sheath Jake is itching to do one as well he has a knife that I made for him and I know that's what he's aiming to do! Yeah his first wallet turned out a hundred times better than any of my first work did!
  8. thanks for the kind words. all credit for pattern goes to Anvil leather also a side note this is a personal wallet for my son ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION OF PRODUCTION RUNS. just saying.
  9. my middle son (12 yrs) wanted a simplistic wallet I didn't want his 1st self made to be a kit so I had him do a image search for 2 things a bi-fold and the letter "j" he found the Anvil leather wallets and chose that style. then found the "j" (which I carved for him) his carving skills are not as good as his assembly.(we're working on that) he did use a Gomph seeder to background the "j" interior. I did the pattern layout for him, he cut all the leather did all the stitching to include making the stitching holes with my new set of stitching chisels he also airbrushed the color and lined the wallet. For his first leather project he did a fantastic job in my opinion! he burnished the edges and did all the work. I am very proud of his ability to follow my instructions, I gave him practice runs at each and every step of the process then moved to the real deal. He tells me he wants to make another one or a knife sheath. As always comments and questions are welcome.
  10. ok! great eyes and thanks for the replies! The tiger is on the left! I have sewn with both and the only discernible difference in performance the amount of wax Brand X has the slightest amount less. Color is more vibrant in the brand X but that could be due to the tiger being older another and the major difference is price, also possible time of shipping I did get brand X from a US supplier. I know US availability of the tiger thread is better than it used to be and given that the supplier of the brand X may not always have it is the only and biggest tradeoff. in my opinion Brand X is still penny for penny better $30.00 vs $4.00-282meters I will use it till it's gone
  11. Okay so everybody that uses tiger thread let's see if you can tell me the difference between what I purchased and and the true Tiger thread which was also a verified purchase! and here's two more pix So let's hear it if you use tiger thread please chime in!
  12. Never had any of the Tandy Tejas waxed thread break on me ever. I am speaking to the replacement of this it's garbage as far as how much wax it has. I have tried tiger thread in a 1 millimeter size it was okay but it wasn't the magic unicorn that everyone tells it to be LOL!
  13. The leather is 2 - 3Oz more on the 4 Oz side LOL! The Stitch lines all stop just inside the area that the snaps cover really easy to do. As far as tiger thread goes I think it's overrated and overpriced I'm currently waiting on something that I ordered from fleabay for about an eighth of the cost of tiger if it's good stuff I'll be happy if it's not then the cats will have a lot of toys. I don't mind the old Tandy Tejas waxed thread as a matter of fact I kind of like it but they no longer sell it and the replacement that they have has way way way too much wax on it I have to actually strip the wax out of it to use it which I will continue to do because I just bought a roll of it it's good strong thread just has way too much wax! If the stuff that I ordered is true to the reviews I should be good to go for my smaller stuff anyway. Thank you both for the comments!
  14. There's a wallet that I made real quick I seen one and I decided to try it to see how the pattern actually turned out and how it holds out. The white stitching got muddy as it always does using Tandy thread. Yes I realize that is too large but that's okay. Also in the first picture are all of the handmade tools that I used in making the wallet the only thing not included was my new stitching horse. I found that the wallet will accommodate 6 cards and plenty of bills. if the pattern looks familiar it is although it is a combination of two different styles. Hopefully no one will be offended by it. is a picture or two of the muddy stitching no matter what I have tried this thread that I'm using always goes muddy. Yes I have added extra length to the thread to try to avoid that also sealing the Finish etc etc..
  15. Yeah it fits my hand perfectly I put the heel on it the way I did so it would be more like the European style stitching awl and it works great
  16. very nice I think it's a fine design.
  17. my 2 cents it looks nice and tidy to me if the retention is good on the frame and not too much on the mag I think you're golden nice work show a pic of the back and toe
  18. I really did that black denim one or dark blue denim whatever it is it's nice!
