Rawhide will shrink if it gets wet and dries out won't it?

Rawhide can get saggy and stretch if it gets wet, and re-tighten as it dries--but maybe not as evenly. It can also smell when it gets damp or wet.

Yea looks ain't everything so probably not going that route any longer I'm sure I could sno seal the raw hide and it would be fine but. ..

  2. I recently "shaved" some foam out of one of these beasties and added 2" neoprene lumbar to the monster (short rider 4'something tall) although the pan was fiberglass. From the looks of it you will have a heck of a time with the curvature of the main seat the buttons are there for a reason they actually pull the cover to the contour. also you are faced with the fact the seat is a very soft pad of sponge on top of the actual medium density foam.. I would take the covers off one at a time and pattern from them, coloration and carving should be easy compared to the actual making of the cover. the buttons pose a special little problem as they are a necessary evil...no easy way out here sorry.... on the plus side the passenger and main seat are two separate covers so it is doable....
  3. PM request sent Thanks in advance!
  4. Its been a long time that I've posted here! I have made a few or I should say a lot of my own tools and since the last time I posted I have taken another bad habit/hobby knife making its funny how one hobby led me to another and they tie so well together...I use 5160 spring steel, and have made a couple of head knives out of what I am pretty sure is L6 saw mill end cut blades if they aren't L6 then my money is on 15N20...they have heat treated and tempered very nicely and hold a razor edge...12-14oz saddle skirting is like soft butter to my most used one!
  5. Thanks for the replies. Chief j you are correct my holster and gun your opinion is appreciated in any case.

  18. please dont take my observations as a negative crit! no such animal as any critique can open eyes and as far as just for show well to me thats... well just for show LOL make it out of heavy oiled black leather lace it up with some red roo in a mex round braid use brass hard ware and call it done!! maybe some diamond shaped holes or spade shaped holes? or black on black tooled up biker style make it serve a purpose though not just for show! even a "bra" serves a purpose!
  19. Is this going to be a "tiedown " IMHO less is more ..plus what is placement of battery on bike? Road salts and the such will eat that hide ...a loose battery at speed could be less than happy ...
