  1. Wow, some people! !! Lol!! Anyway might have to try Quik Slik. Thanks.
  2. Very clean looking seat!
  3. so what ever happened to testing the personal lube? for slicking edges that is and what is in the WYO Qik Slik? im still using the good ol Saddle soap method but id like an alternative if there is a better one....
  4. what is the contraption under the seat it don't look like a sickle!!hehe! really though nice clean work and I really do want to know what that is? just a stand?
  5. ok duh! I just tied this and your other post together I'm slow on Mondays now that I see what you did with the PILLION PAD and got more of an idea I would have turned the leather inside out stitched on the flesh side and so on so forth just my 2 cents.....
  6. Anthony, I by no stretch of the imagination am an expert but your "stitching" looks weird what lace did you use and what type of braid is that? color wise it looks fine to me but color and art are very subjective things to discuss, your tooling looks shallow IMHO, but that may be due to the thickness of the leather you used. Now on a positive note (not that I was all negative) working on a big ol fat pillion pad like this isn't easy and your 1st looks clean for a first... were it me I would have gone with a black antique or a very dark one considering the art (skull) it tends to bring out the subject matter more so. Just my humble opinion also critiques are worthless unless we learn from them not just the person being critiqued but the one critiquing. So what have I learned from your P Pad? well that lacing a ol school one like this just don't trip my trigger....

    Made A Tool

the bearing was a very small roller that I was lucky enough to find 4 of them so I need to make 3 more one more for me and 2 for my sons they will be half saddle vs the full ring one. Thanks for the kind words!
  8. I laced the p-pad in the picture I posted also the shape of your padding and what you use for padding will make a difference I use high quality neoprene 1" thickness. ..hopefully this helps.
  9. as johnd already said and patterns depend on the pan for the P-pad...
  10. A press is recommended to get a good straight hole but yes a hand drill will do in a pinch pilot hole an a good sharp bit. And get after it!
  11. I have found the "bounce" to be just right for me but then I have never used anything but my hand made delrin mauls and now mallets..well I forget myself in comparison to rawhide mallets I can say I prefer the delrin any day of the week. the rawhide mallets I have are old osbourne mallets and very very rarely see any of my Gomph-Hackbarth tools or any of my cheap tools for that fact..They aren't balanced like my mauls and mallets........
  12. very cool art sir! love the saying, and as a side note, question what is your bobber? I am rebuilding my 74FLH at the moment, she is a bobber also....
  13. Piedmont Plastics is a good source gentlemen
  14. I didn't put any weight in them other than the acorn top cap they are fine for me and that is what suits me!

    Made A Tool

Itch, It sounds like a good ride, only my ol girl is in a crate now frame and swing arm are at powder coat! complete redo for her motor is good and sound but putting the ol 4speed tranny back on! Monica tell your husband I send my thanks I am very novice when it comes to machining but I am trying!
  16. The SS seems to work well with saddle soap after dye then parafin wax and canvas buffing cloth. it's like any other tool l suppose. there is a learning curve using a powered burnisher. I still use my other bunishers Delrin, and cherry wood ol school hand rub...
  17. forgot to add a pic of my burnishing station the burnisher is SS powered by a 1/3 HP motor spinning at around 1750rpm sorry about the sideways photo

egliderider, I appreciate the kind words from you and Mrs Monica! I may make two more of these one for each of my sons I can understand why there are some high priced swivel knives out there now as doing this one on a manual Lathe took some time.
  19. These are the mauls and mallets I use and made They are Delrin, wood table leg handles and leather handles the Black and cordovan mallets are my latest additions they all have SS acorn nuts and 1/2'' all thread shaft running through the length the weights go from heavy to light LOL! as always any and all comments welcomed
  20. made a swivel knife its SS and ali the saddle rotates on a bearing as is smooth as silk . I did 99% of the machining have a great instructor. any and all comments are welcomed.
  21. 3AM woke up cant sleep hating it work in the morning...

  22. Father, Husband and everything that goes with those two titles. APS Instructor (APS is similar to Toyota Production Systems) Lean manufacturing blablabla..also the title holds a deep seated part of fabricator don't get me wrong I love what I do just wish I could make a living doing what I love....Leather working and knife making....
  23. I beg to differ, turn them around so the handle is on the left
  24. Just use a 1" wide leather scrap strap with some SS sheet metal screws between the tools to make some loops, kinda like a bandoleer/shotgun shell holder.
  25. Tolkien was always a favorite. The Silmarillion is a fine read also.
