  1. That is fantastic work. Love your carvings and I would say this is a very professionally done piece.
  2. Thanks Squirrely and Snubby. I do most of my holsters with the basket weave but every now and then I get an order for just plain.
  3. Here it is a plain black holster to fit the Ruger SP101 or similar. I am happy with it and think my customer will be too.
  4. That is a very nice rig. Beautiful work. Your son will be proud to be wearing that one.
  5. Very nice projects. Fine work on all. I really like that holster.
  6. Very nice looking holster Billy. Using a seeder for background is a cool idea and it looks nice.
  7. DonorLeather, Very good point. I have carved another holster with the wild rose and I am making it different in that there is no strap that holds the belt loop, instead I am sewing the belt loop on to the back. I'll be finishing and posting it probably next week. Thanks so much for the tips and the picture. I appreciate it. I can use all the help I can get.
  8. What I can make out looks OK to me but the picture is not very clear.
  9. Thanks Rick for the nice comments. To answer your question, I don't consider myself an artist. All my carvings are tracings from other work that I put together to make stuff like you seen on this holster. Most of my carvings are copies of Al Stohlman's works or parts of them put together. You need to get some of Al's books and study his methods. If you do you will be able to develop some good carving skills.
  10. Looks like you have a lot of nice tools. I like the looks of your knife sheath, but if the knife rides on those rivets it will dull the blade. Instead of rivets I put a welt on the edge of the sheath where it is sewn. The best way I have found to do basket weave is to lightly scribe a line in the direction you want the basket weave to go and stamp your first two rows on that line. After doing that it is easy to keep your BW straight. I think the above mentioned video shows all that. Keep up the good work, your doing good for just starting.

That is very beautiful. You do really nice work!
  12. That is a very nice looking holster. You did a great job on it. I think that is the first time I have seen the double snaps like that but I like them.
  13. Bullmoosepaddles, Thank you for the nice complement. To answer your question, I do not make my own lace. Trying to find good quality lace has been a tough one for me. A few years ago I used lace from Tandy but something happened to the quality of it and I quit purchasing lace from them because I could not finish a project without the lace breaking as I was stitching. In the past I have used Kangeroo lace, this is very good lace, but it is extremely expensive in my opinion. Springfield sold a calf lace that I found to be very strong but when I tried to order some of it a couple of weeks ago they said the company that made it went out of business. I ended up buying "Realeather craft lace" made by Silver Creek Leather Co. It is a calf lace and seems to be good and strong. I bought this from Springfield Leather but after checking the price I found that I can get the same thing from Weaver Leather at a better price. Hope that answers your question.
