Check the shuttle for a burr

Have you gone to see it lately Solo? I hear from some here that Consignments are not the way to go because they get shop worn. I would pull it and sell it on Etsy or Ebay.

Here is what I would do. Find an 8.5x11 pattern. Print 2. tape them together so that a portion of one sheet is 3 inches past the other. you may have to manipulate the pattern a bit to make it flow from one sheet to the other.... that is where your drawing talent will be challenged a bit. Figure out where you want your clear space and the size and shape. Print an example of that (like a scroll, banner, etc) and place and tape that on your other two sheets. Then lay a sheet of tracing paper over the top... trace a new pattern to use on the leather. Adjust the tracing as needed for the flow between the first two sheets.

You are welcome. That's the one good thing about these old Singers... The company that owns singer is keeping the archive available for these old machines. There are gaps in the materials but most of them are available.
-
in my opinion you would sell them faster individually... or in small sets. It's been my experience that most people expect a deal when you sell in a lot like that. Also someone interested in the press may not want to have to deal with 100 chap dies... especially if they plan on doing holsters or or wallets...
-
If it were me I would sell the Dies separately from the clicker. I can't help on the pricing... it depends on the condition of the machine and the price a buyer is willing to pay.

Ok, here is one tutorial that might help. It's made from soft leather and I don't care for the way he did the stitching. http://artofmanliness.com/2011/02/24/weekend-diy-project-how-to-make-a-leather-wallet/ Here's another tutorial. For a more common type bi-fold. yeah yeah... I know you said pattern..... There are several in in the PDF for "billfolds" here. http://elktracks.net/free-patterns.html
-
Ok. let me look for a bit.
-
Let me make sure we understand what you want. You want a western floral like what some call Sheridan? You want an all over pattern? Did you check out Leathercraftlibray.com under the free stuff?
-
LOL they are all men's wallets.... silly bugger.
-
What kind of stabilizer did you use? The sticky back stuff? How heavy... inquiring minds want to know. Also did you have any troubles with the leather flapping in the machine... causing loops on top?
-
What kind of wallet, biker/trucker, bi-fold, tri-fold, mystery?

Exaustapated: Too dang old and too dang tired to give a crap.

LOL yeah I know. You would have to just give it to me to make it worth it.

Most of these require the bobbin while sitting in the case with the bobbin facing you to unspool counter clockwise (anti-clockwise). Meaning that when you draw the bobbin thread from the case, the bobbin will spin anti-clockwise Here's a service manual for a 29u-XXXX Most of the information should work for you. (it also has a better picture of the bobbin going into the case http://www.parts.singerco.com/IPsvcManuals/29U171A_172A_173A.pdf Here's a parts list that might help some too. http://www.parts.singerco.com/IPpartCharts/29-4.pdf Hey... why don't you send that to me. I love old heavy singers.
-
things to check are... make sure the bobbin is un-spooling in the correct direction (yes it makes a difference). Always make sure the presser foot is in the up position when you thread the machine. And make sure it is threaded correctly.... not what you think it was but what the manual says. LOL

lol That ukulele he has is worth more than most guitars on the market. I agree that high G strung ukuleles sound crappy.

When I look at your trial pieces, I feel like the flower part... the purple part is over worked. The beveling doesn't enhance the fine detail, but rather makes it look somewhat like a scallop edged spoon. Sometimes LESS is more. I think if you use a hair blade (or several pointy crafters xacto blades taped together) and make deft long cuts so that it looks a lot like hair... and then only do a little beveling around the entire flower (purple) part and the bulbous area, you will be much happier with the results.

Just a heads up. The "Silver" angelus paint is NOT a silver but rather a clear with a bunch of pearl. I'm not sure about the gold but I hear the same things as well. People are underpainting with a base color like yellow or grey then putting the "silver" or "gold" over the top. I found some enamel pens that work ok, but they take forever to dry. They are "Pactra Enamel Pens" I got them at a closeout place and haven't seen any since. You might try something like this http://www.amazon.co...el paint marker or this... http://www.amazon.co...el paint marker Oh and I"ve used these Sharpies too. http://www.walmart.com/ip/14906302?adid=22222222227008505014&wmlspartner=wlpa&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=13689268510&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem

Chancy is right. In order for an acoustic to project sound, the top must vibrate. This is why some "cheap" guitars sound horrid. The bracing inside the inside under the face of the guitar dampens the vibrations, the more bracing... the less the top vibrates. Putting a leather cover directly on a guitar like this would turn it into a decoration... completely worthless to a musician. Electric guitars on the other hand rely on the pick ups, (actually the interference of the vibrating string over the magnetic field created by the pick ups) to make the sound. That is why wrapping an electric does nothing to it's sound.

I think the key is to defuse the light. Even pro photography studios bounce and filter light before it hits their subject. I've been thinking about "light boxes" myself.... if I come up with something useful I'll be sure to share.
