Veg tanned is what you want for your briefcases if you want them rigid. You can get a 6 oz chrome or oil tanned and it may or may not be rigid, such as chap or 'pull up' leather. It has a 'soft hand' or is very flexible. I don't know what supplier you use but if you call http://springfieldleather.com/ and talk to any of their staff and tell them what you want to do with the leather they'll make sure you are getting what you want. There are other kinds like the chrome or oil tanned that is stiff. Right now they have water buffalo on sale that has a firm hand. But you can always count of veg tanned to be firm that is undyed. The lower ozs are more flexible than the upper ones, like 6 oz. A two oz leather might not be stiff enough. Anyway they will set you right up, also with the hardware, anything you need for the project. Cheryl

Frederiek if all you can see are the many 'flaws' I must be blind. I think it's a beautiful strap, very intricate and visually interesting. A beautiful strap.

Well you'd nip off the nail like they do when shoeing a horse. then you could those felt tips on the bottom made to keep things from scratching the table. I don't know, I hadn't thought about that. Cheryl

I was going to suggest using the nails in the hole too. I think they'd look awesome. Cheryl

Iphone Case - What To Do About The Bottom Corners?
DoubleC replied to FlHobbyist's topic in How Do I Do That?
Bob I think if you'd gently curved the bottom corners you would like it more. That's the only thing I can suggest. I don't think it sucks. Cheryl -
I recently made some credit card holders. And they weren't perfect by any means but I used the same oz leather and was able to burnish them. I bought some quik slik from Sheridan Outfitters (only place it is sold) and applied it with a q-tip and then used my electric wool burnisher on the edges. They weren't edged either. And although it's not all over, in some places they look like one piece of leather on the edges and are really slick. If you wanted to go farther you would dye after that, put a mix of paraffin and beeswax on the edges and use a wooden burnisher. Your edges don't look bad but I can see where they weren't burnished. Beautiful wallet though. Cheryl

They are adorable. And how nice of you to do that. I don't think a lot of husbands would if they had another hobby like woodworking, lw, things like that. Cheryl

I never did anything to the flesh side until recently when I found out you were SUPPOSE to. I use resolene but I don't get a look like that. I just use it to waterproof it. Cheryl

How Much Do Leathercrafts Man Get Paid?
DoubleC replied to DavidL's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Hi David. I'm sorry I didn't know that about Hermes. I wonder where the school is here in the USA. I've never heard about a lw school. Or do you mean just 2 years of college for an AA degree? Cheryl -
How Much Do Leathercrafts Man Get Paid?
DoubleC replied to DavidL's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Well I imagine that the employees of those companies get paid an average salary because they are big companies. I doubt any of them have any schooling, just trained on site for whatever job they are going to do.....sew, put in zippers, attach straps. I think it's like a factory and they work a regular 40 hour work week. I'm sorry I can't be more help, this is just what I think. I would visit some of their sites and look at the 'job opportunities' on the sites. Cheryl -
Reality Check, Please. Tandy Leather Price Doubled.
DoubleC replied to dcobranding's topic in Suppliers
It would be nice if they doubled their quality along with the price but they didn't. We don't have a Tandy here where I live so I've always ordered online. I get 99% of my stuff from SLC and 1% from eBay, Tandy, etc. I noticed on my last order that SLC shipping has gone up but I didn't have to wait like I'm hearing you folks did. I ordered online and it took 7 days to get it but only because of a weekend. I got it yesterday. I get a good discount from them and have usually bought my tandy through them because I still got my discount. I wasn't aware that this had changed. I just bought a new edger and checked both Tandy and SLC and saved 30% by getting it at SLC. At one time Tandy was having a .99 sale on Italian leather and a friend of mine went in and picked it out and the two pieces I got were beautiful. A friend of mine on here ordered a side of it and got red checked. Looked like a freaking tablecloth. They even put a note in it that he could send it back if he didn't like it. But the shipping both ways was higher than the piece of leather. I got in on their sale of calf leather lace at .99 and the first store that the order was shipped to said they didn't have any. I said, "send the order to another store.' DUH. And I got it but the shipping was $8.00 so what kind of deal was that really? Now they'd probably charge 15.00. I feel sorry for new people starting out that think Tandy is their only option. BTW I didn't knpow we were all 300-400 years old, LOL.- 39 replies

If I understand you want to wet form leather but not squares, etc? You can wet form around most of the stuff in your house, like a wooden box, or even a spoon. If you want to make something specific I suggest you make the mold out of wood. That is the best thing to form around. Or an actual item like a knife. Cheryl

This is the right place. Now put up some pics and prices, whether you'll ship, etc. Cheryl.

Van, if you watch this video by Al Bane it is all about practicing corner stitches and how to do them correctly. Cheryl
-
For it to stay the only way you can do it is sew it on. I wouldn't trust it to stay any other way. Cheryl
-
I'm sure you could find them long enough to go through the thick leather but it's going to be uncomfortable for the horse without a lining put on top of them. Cheryl

Yeah looks nice, but not ANYWHERE near that nice
