Bluesman replied to leatherman1457's topic in Old/Sold
RIP Gary. -
Short sleeves, no watch, wedding ring on left hand, swivel knife in right hand. Good point, I need to start watching more closely.

I have taken all the advice and cliiped my nails so low, that it HURTS!!!!!! Even then I find marks, here and there. The more I progress, on the project, there are more. I use a glass slicker and most come out, but then there are more..........Mmmmm Aliens? There are folks on here who take a piece of hide, tool it, finish it and the results are flawless. Now, not asking to get from A-Z. But what do I need to do to get to mabye, I don't know. how about A-F? You folks have seen it in your work and solved the issue in many different ways. Just looking for you observations. Thanks, Jon

No words can even describe, for me, how nice that is. None..............................

WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY to much in a title. How about "I want to be paid, for what I created". I could care less about the title, and more about the dead Presidents. To much thought and useless conversation here. Tool it, make it, sell it........DONE!

The Next Victim! Vintage Tele Wrap And Tool!
Bluesman replied to chancey77's topic in Musical Instruments
Very cool. I look at that and can get the eerie vibe. How did you do the white effect? That is excellant. -
Follow Bob's steps. neatlac is not needed. You can use anything fot he final coat after the parraffin. I have found that putting the edge on my table and using a rag in hand to burnish works wonders. Also have three rags, or canvas. One for soap, one for sadlle soap and one for pariffin and don't mox them up. Jon

That long tenon on the neck has GOT TO give incredible sustain. What pickups did you use? An what is the third pot for? You did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really, Really, REALLY like that. How much larger do you make the hide than the body to account for the stiching?

Great video. Nick expalins "trying and suceeding" in a never forget fashion. What and incredible man. Thanks for sharing.

The short stubby drive is for line 24 the other line 20. One side of the barrel will hold the socket of the snap and the other side of the whatever it's called. Leet's say one side will do both sides of a Line 24 and the other will do both sides of a Line 20. Try a couple samples. The barrel will bottom out on the snap when it's tight. It really does work nice.

All in all nice bag. Your step by step adds to the post. i can see how you did what you did. A couple of quick notes. On the side flaps, you may want to use a bone folder next time on the fold. This would give you a nice crease and a more finished look. The other area which can really, IMHO, make or break a project is edge finishing. There are many ways to go about it and lots of opinions. In the How do I do This section, there is a pinned thread at the top by Bob Park. Read this, practice and develop your own style. If you finish the edges on this bag, it will raise the quality level up several notches. Hand stiching is an art all unto itself. keep practicing you'll get it. That is a nice bag and you should be very proud of it. Jon

Just got that same setup from Kevin. It works great. Position the barrel over the snap insert drive punch and tap, tap, tap. Snap set nice and snug. The kids will be able to work with it once shown.

My Championship Belt
Bluesman replied to Bluesman's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks for the kudos guys. Bruce, I can really understand cub fans. There is just something about that team. When, and I mean when, they win a World Series, everybody in the Universe is going to say they were a Cub fan forever. -

Sylvia, I will give a full report. I currently have a 16oz and a 24oz Barry King mauls. I am hoping for less bounce from these. When I use my 24oz I can feel it in my elbow the next day. So, actually these are for medical reasons Jon

Late November of last year I wanted a packer Championship belt. Looked around and anything I found was garbage. SSo, I though, make iit yourself. So out cmae all of my 30 year old leather tools. Well 6 months and $3000 later. Here it is. I am ready for some FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLL. The plaques on the side list eacch Championship coach and thier respective championship seasons. I used very small t-nuts to attach the plaques so they can be updated as my team wins more Super Bowls. So it's perpetual.

Just got a new 14oz and 20oz form the Bearman. Came with a beautiful stand and cocobolo handles. Time to get some leather wet.

Seems there have been some topics of discussion on how to get the best bang out of the LW search engine. I am not a nooby to the Forum life and have used many different systems. The one we have here works on the word or words you type in. The confusing part is that it brings up every thread, were this word is found. So you type in "sewing alligator" and you get a list of threads which mostly have to do with sewing. You continue on and get frustrated. I have found this trick to be extremely effective on this board. For this example we will use the same queary, "sewing alligator" 1.) Skip the search box, 2.) Hit the advanced search button 3.) Type in "alligator", No, no I want to know how to sew alligator. Relax we'll get there 4.) Check the box to search Only Titles 5.) Hit enter Every thread with alligator in the subject line pops up. Now, think there is one in there that talks about sewing? You will be amazed at how much information is at your fingertips if you search wisely. Putting to many words in a search does nothing but muddy the queary. Do one word searches which is your topic. Then look at the thread titles and descriptions to see if something narrows it down for you. I used this method when I was doing an inlay. Typed in stingray and boom, everyhting I wanted to know and more. Even cut and paste items and save them to my computer. I found this to be very effective. And also learned way more than my original question. You might not only learn how to sew alligator, but cut it, glue it, dye it, finish it and so on. So one search delivers multiple answers. Jon
