  1. You could try these people good to work with to they offered to split down a hole bridle butt for me because they did not have the weight i wanted at the time i said no because the finish on the flesh would not be as good. http://www.metropolitanleather.com hope this helps JCUK
  2. Hi Sorry to bring bad news but, I did hear the rumour a few weeks ago https://leatherbiz.com/fullitem.aspx?id=149446 I have heard they are trying to resolve this but I fear the worst. Sorry JCUK
  3. Do you have pull through leather splitter if so split your leathers straps down to half and line them that way no need to purchase anymore leather that how i do mine and prefer that way. Others here may have a have a different method for you. hope this helps JCUK
  4. Hi everybody i have watched it several times as this my is main work. Matt the reins stitched onto the bit is a horse racing thing as its a lot safer, hook studs are not allowed to be used they are not strong enough and have been known to break and sometimes have been known to be pulled right out of the billet platform - we do use buckle billet ends in racing mainly on race exercise bridles. Fredk not a fan of hunting with hounds myself is it still legal south of the border some people i know use to go there to hunt a few years ago when it got banned in the UK. Maybe one of these are the same saddlers or not sure really hope so. https://www.berneys.ie http://www.berneysaddlery.com Hope this helps JCUK
  5. Hi Below is an interesting video which is quite old now. It is interesting that the techniques and materials have not greatly changed! Hope you enjoy! JCUK
  6. Hi I don't know anywhere in Edinburgh but I do know of a place in Newcastle ( not that far away a couple of hours I think), http://www.leprevo.co.uk/index.htm the website is a bit old fashioned, but i have ordered received from them, and they are really good to deal with. If I was a close as you, I would certainly pay them a visit. (You won't need your passport even though you are entering another country!!!) Hope this helps JCUK

  9. Hello I think you are talking about my round knife. I have replied to Daniel at Osborne on Sunday evening. I also posted a reply on another thread on this forum concerning the round knife please see here. The knife is now working fine and cutting well. Hope this helps JCUK
  10. Just got in from work and got the same email i am with you on that i will not be take the long drive up to Manchester either, Northampton is 2 hours for me. I only buy a few things from them and prefer to go there in person than shop online to see what i am buying sometimes when you are in the shop you come out with more than you intended to get because sometimes there in store sales have somethings are to good to let go. As i say i don't get much from them but it will be a lot less now. Most products are over priced anyway and quality not that great. all the best jcuk
  11. Hi Just revisiting this post, I had some spare time and so tried again to sharpen the Osborne round knife and I found it wasn't so much the sharpening I needed to strop more and get a nice polished edge. Which i have now achieved. The knife is now working fine. I have learnt the lesson of getting a nice polished edge to the tool you are sharpening which takes more time than you imagine. Hope this helps JCUK
  12. Hi I have not seen any links to this ladies Youtube channel on this forum. There are some good and useful stuff on there. Hope this helps, JCUK
  13. Hi I know these are in the UK but take a look at this site - scroll down and you will see the types of leather similar to what you are asking for: http://tustingandburnett.blogspot.com Hope this helps Kindest regards JCUK
  14. Daniel Thank you for message. Sorry not to have got back sooner. Your offer is very kind, can you provide an email address so I may contact you directly? I must say that i have lots of other Osborne tools that I have had for years and still very happy with them. Kindest regards JCUK
  15. Sorry don't have any experience with either of the knives but i believe the Le Prevo is Barnsley Sheffield steel that would be my choice. I have a c.s Osborne a replacement free of charge for one i had for around twenty years great customer service but sadly the new knife was no where near as good as my old knife. I purchased knipshield Round knife more money than the c.s Osborne but worth ever penny. I see you have just started with leatherwork, for a lot of leatherworkers a good Round knife is essential tool but for a newcomer to leatherwork they can a little dauting to use but just practice on scrap leather, watch some videos and watch your fingers. Also try the link below Dixon tools held in high regard, think these are made by former Dixon employees. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SADDLERS-LEATHER-WORK-TOOL-4-ROUND-KNIFE-MADE-IN-ENGLAND/382318977149?hash=item5903fca07d:g:3rAAAOSwWKtUwVNH Hope this helps JCUK
  16. Here is is a quick video of a method i have used on my work not sure if it would work for but you can give try on some scrap leather. I also work mainly on horse tack, a lot heavier weight leather than the leather in your photo - correct me if i am wrong a watch strap thats why As I say, not sure if it would work for you. JCUK Hope this helps JCUK
  17. Where did you buy Awls from i don't won't to recommend them if it is the same Awl i use. I have used the same Awls for years when i first got them yes they needed a little bit of work to get them right for me but have been happy with them for years do not sharpen very often. Have brought some from a different place they look good but not used the yet. Also the shape of the haft might also be a factor it is for me. Hope this helps JCUK

    Round knife

I would also recommend Knipschield knives i have the Texas Rosebud model blade measures 4 1/2 point to point. Had it over a year only stropped it in that time never had to sharpen it i strop before i start work for the day and when i finished at the end of the day. I work with Bridle/Harness leather in the main could not be more happy with it. Hope this helps jcuk
  19. Hi Not sure this company will have exactly what you want, but look at the site and maybe send them an email. http://www.aacrack.co.uk Hope this helps JCUK
  20. Hope this helps sharing the link this way. Hope this helps JCUK
  21. Hi Yin Tx Sorry can't help with how good that Round knife would perform I have a Knip knife Texas Rosebud, fantastic tool the reason I did not buy a Dixon or George Barnsley knife because I prefer a flat handled knife. I had a older Osborne before but it got damaged they kindly sent me a new one free but could not get it to hold an edge - hence ordering the the Texas Rosebud. But Sheffield steel in held in the highest esteem this side of the pond, many moons ago I worked in an old traditional ironmongers selling Sheffield made scissors and various kinds of knives - often customers would come in to get knives and scissors sharpened purchased elsewhere (not Sheffield Steel). Therefore all of us who worked there knew how good Sheffield Steel was. I would be Interested to know what other stuff you got from them, I clicked on the link earlier they had one Round knife in stock just tried again it has gone. Had the the Rosebud nearly a year now never had to sharpen it just stropped it performs as well as the day I got it. hope this helps JCUK
  22. Have a look at this site. http://www.arrowstaples.co.uk/arrow-staples/arrow-plier-type-staple-gun/arrow-p22-plier-type-stapler.html Tandy UK also carry that type of stapler but would cost you a lot more. There are other ways you can do this using zip bottom stops just get a narrow piece of steel and use that as a anvil tap down with a tack hammer or cheap pair of jeweller pliers so you won't damage the zip bottom stop. You will have to pierce the leather first with your awl to make hole for the zip bottom stop Tandy carry zip bottom stops. hope this helps JCUK
  23. Here are a couple of links you can watch - not exactly want you want but method pretty much the same you probably will know just remember to add the size of the clip/snap to the made up piece of work. Hope this helps JCUK
  24. I brought a Tippmann Boss from a site called Pre loved about 5 years ago always wanted one but at the time hard to get in UK . Tandy used to have them then stopped selling them now sell ing again have to say would not pay that sort of money for one . Got mine for less than half that they sell them for do not use it much just like to hand stitch most of my work is horse riding tack but recovering rubber rein grips can be time consuming so helpful for that. Yes they can be a little funny at times but a good machine to learn on also have a singer 46K in storage space also tight in my workshop when first got that machine scared the hell out of me but since using Boss and learning on it not so daunting now. In other words yes expensive but good at what can do and easy to use once you work it out yes can be pain at times but learn as you go. hope this helps JCUK
  25. I will second Bikermutt 07 on Knipsknives have a Texas Rosebud model handle not over big at all. Fantastic tool i have lots of old Dixon tools,Osborne tools including a newer Osborne round knife replacement of a old damage Osborne Knife which they replaced free of charge fantastic costumer service but sorry to say new Knife not as good as old knife could not hold a sharpe edge. Which is why i which i charmed my wife to get me a Knipknife the difference was night and day. Terry was really busy at the time but was super to deal with. Hope this helps JCUK
