  2. Thank you all again i have had result!! I rang H Webber and sons LTD / Hand tools UK.com, i asked them if they can send me a replacement handle and brass ferrule. They explained they can't do that but asked what the problem was, after my explanation they offered to send me a new replacement knife on if i sent them my damaged one. apparently when i bought the tool from them 20 odd years ago it was guaranteed for life! Which i didn't know. I would just like to say a big thumbs up to Osborne tools LTD and their customer service and of course H Webber and Sons for taking a knife back even though someone had already tried to repair it. although i am aware that some say the latest Osborne tools are not as good as older tools - but will have to wait and see on that one. Still a fantastic gesture. Thanks again for all your help and responses will keep you posted. Kindest regards JCUK p.s. If its not up to standard I guess I can write to Santa for a Knippshield Texas Rosebud or even better hope my wife reads this !!!
  3. Thank you all for your replies. Bonecross it does look like it was repaired by a kid and i have since been told the place i took it too, jobs like these they give to the apprentices. So i am not happy to find this out afterwards. Thor good idea i will try to contact Osborne direct, we have a UK supplier of Osborn tools over here not sure if they will bother to help me but will see. If not, i will contact the Osborne USA direct. By the way the handle is not rotten, it's actually burnt! Where they tried to weld the brass ferrule. Art, if I can't get any joy from Osborne over here or the USA i will endeavour to try and make a handle myself I have already sourced some brass ferrules on eBay. Thanks for the correct spelling of ferrules! LOL. TinkerTailor, thanks for your reply but wonder if your suggestion is beyond my capabilities of working with metal working tools and wood working tools. I have contacted a company here in the UK, that make knives and i have asked if they can make a replica or something similar out Damascus steel. As a little treat to myself and the pic attached is their work. This knife is 6 inches point to point and is too big for me. Kindest regards and thanks again JCUK
  4. Hello All, Please help save my Round knife. On the advice a neighbour I sent my Round Knife to have the brass ferule fixed. Please view the image of the result - they have ruined the knife. It is my favourite tool and have been using it for the last 20 years. Is it worth saving or repairing and if so how and where? Ideally UK based but willing to send further afield if needed. I believe that the newer versions of the same knife are not so good in quality (Osborne Round knife). Any advise welcome. #heartbroken! Kindest regards JCUK

  11. Just a thought, have you considered chrome tanned leather over here in the UK, a lot of turn out rug straps and tack that gets a lot of neglect tends to be made from chrome tanned leather. all the best John
  12. Another way to reseat the blade is to use a dead matchstick break it in two and sand one end insert into the hole in the handle gentle tap in with a small hammer until it breaks. You may need to make sure its flush then reseat the blade into handle.Using the method as above with two coins. Done this a few times yes dropped on floor, hope this helps. All the best jcuk
  13. Hi people I use a small camping gas stove. Go to a tack shop and look at the creasing on Bridles and other tack to see the crease on the tack and when you try it for your self remember what it looked like and try to get the same effect. Do not over heat the creaser as this will scorch the leather as i said before practice and trial and error.
  14. Hi People i was taught to heat up the Creaser, as to how long you heat it for is a little bit of practice and trial and error. As to quality, the Creaser is a tool we use a lot,and tends to get over looked so i would buy a good brand always cheaper in the long run, as the saying goes buy cheap buy twice. Sorry to hear about your last Creaser hopefully you will get a refund. Some cheaper tools are fine if you don't use them to much, but if you use a tool a lot always best to buy the best you can afford. All the best jcuk
  15. Hi there, Jax Have you tired the following link? http://www.bowstock.co.uk/acatalog/Kangaroo_lace.html All the best JCUK
  16. Hi Lars Sorry don't know where you can get one like that, but do you have a single Pippen punch? if so have you tried to punch one hole and then line it up opposite and punch the other hole. if you have and it didn't work sorry i suggested it. all the best jcuk
  17. you can always off load them onto monkey harris if they don't sell
  18. I am a big fan of the round/head knife, you only have to look at the pinned subjects about the round knife under the tool section to know what a important tool it is. I am a left hander to there is no bias with a round knife same which ever way you hold it. When you learn to use one you will wonder how i have i done with out it. Practise is the key + sharp and strop, any scrap leather you have just use for practise please be careful of your fingers. Not sure how many youtube clips there are but try and have a look better still if you know some working with leather ask them to teach you how to use one. Hope this helps. Kind regards jcuk
  19. Dwight has rightly shown you the right tool for the job. When i set copper rivets i turn the rivet setter as i hit it seems to work for me. you can pick up a good one from a good hardware store. I use a mini anvil to set on funny enough got it from Tandys works for me. Sometimes after i have a dome i use a light flat head hammer just one tap, gives a nice finished look to. Hope this helps Kind regards jcuk
  20. I use my screw crease to stitch loops hope this has not confused this topic. Have noticed some cheaper metal loop clams can bend out of shape. Kind regards JCUK
  21. Hi Glendon not tried this myself but seems to make sense. http://www.johan-potgieter.com/ll/?tag=strap-cutter Not sure about quality but cheapest i have seen new Plough Gauge http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/plough-knife.htm Does this help? JCUK
  22. Hi Jake, can't comment on Al Stohlman brand head knife from Tandy for about 50 to 60 dollars - they have over here on offer not sure if they have same offer there. What I can say is I use a Osborne round knife and would not be without it, just looked at their site for a few dollars more (yes I know theres a film title in there!) you can get one of them I know which way I would go... Others here may have a different view on this. Have heard there quality has waned a bit don't know about that hope not, had my Osborne tools a while. One more thing, the reason I chose Osborne over Dixon - just the way it felt in my hand. That might be something you may want to consider. https://www.osborneleathertools.com/category.php?cid=5 On this link above look at the sheaths and knives... Hope this all helps, JCUK
  23. Sorry one more thing as for quality, a head knife/round knife are a tool you will more or less use it everyday so get the best you can afford even if it means wait a while to save it will be better in the long run. JCUK
  24. I own both a wooden strap cutter and draw gauge much prefer wooden strap cutter you can use it ways both push or pull towards you which ever way you feel more comfortable with and the blade is not as exposed as the draw gauge.Easy to use and cheap great tool. Hope this helps king regards jcuk
  25. Not sure if this will help, in the uk we can get a single head knife slightly cheaper than a double head knife will be much more than a stop gap knife. As for cutting curves get as much scrap leather as you can draw odd shapes and just practice as much as you can hopefully you will get a feel for your knife strop and sharp and please mind fingers. http://www.josephdixon.co.uk/products/Single_Head_Knife.html ( not sure if this available in the U.S.) Hope this helps, JCUK
