Guns I build (holsters) for
kwelna replied to JLSleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Wow.....LOL really you guys and gals? Lets play nice here......Maybe a little thicker skin is required all the way around? I just read through this thread and I can see JLS's point. If you are not limiting the list of guns you are willing to make holsters for, why have a list? Conversely, could you be loosing customers if they do not see their particular firearm on your list? While I believe the question may be a bit rhetorical, it is a legitimate question and worth the time to ponder. It was not an indictment against you or your business. Its just a question. The point being why not review and reconsider how\what\why you are doing what you do and maybe try a different approach so that you might grow. In other words break away from the pack and innovate your approach. This may make you a bit more unique and act as a differentiator within the context of holster making. JLS has a bunch of good usable patterns to his credit. He has taken the time to produce documentation on the process and procedures for making a holster. When contacted by me with questions, his replies have been quick and useful. If I do not see what I am looking for, I contact him and ask. This approach seems to work quite well. More importantly JLS's web design allows me to see what I am buying and is conducive to my contacting him and opening up a dialogue. This process builds\develops a business "relationship" with the vendor and thereby increases my loyalty to his brand.(Marketing 101) `If your intent\hope is to increase sales, repeat customers and referrals you may want to look at JLS's model... Just saying Kevin -
I'm looking for a Glock 43 blue gun to purchase or rent for a week. I opened my big mouth and now I have to make 2 holsters..... LOL If you have one and are interested in selling it or renting it out, please email me. Thanks Kevin

S&W 686 Three Evils Holster
kwelna replied to Boriqua's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I must agree with Bikermutt, I really like the unfinished back grounding.....sorry, but I may have to steal that idea as well. Its a unique and understated touch to a great holster. -
Beautiful, expertly done. Oddly what I enjoy most is the fact that the wood on the handle is not symmetrical, one side is thicker that the other. It is a fantastic touch to a custom piece.

If you are looking for a cowboy set up, the Brazos Jack Shoulder holster pattern by Simmons is excellent. You might be able to find them at Double K leather? I have made a good 1/2 dozen holsters with this pattern.

I think it is awesome that we have another source for hard to get items. I live in St. Paul, MN and all we have is Tandy. Which is OK\Good, but this will give Minnesotans easier access to higher end products. Welcome and good luck on you venture!! March 15th huh ? let me see what I can put together for an order...

If you dont mind a bit of dumpter diving, drive by a granite counter top business and check out their throwaways(sp?). I usually go in and offer to buy pieces in most cases, for $10 - $20 you can take as much as you like....and for a few bucks more, they will cut off the bad parts. I then usualy return and give the owner\manager a wallet\money clip etc as a thankyou.

Learning To Make Wallets
kwelna replied to MonicaJacobson's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Your wallets look great, switch from a chisel to a pricking iron and then complete the hole with an awl. I think you again will see a bit of improvement in the looks\alignment of the stitching. -
Agreed, the ones with a spring (P- 2326) are no better than Tandys which is the same as all the others. The other ones (P1090) are that are not spring loaded are useless FYI. I miight try the (P- 1127) as teh spring looks to be encased in a tube, so it might keep its tesnion a bit longer, assuming part of my problem is dirt etc. getting in between the coils of the spring.......

Alternative Closure Messenger Bag Flap
kwelna replied to Danielvetpath's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
I think you need to take into account if the messenger bag has a handle on top or just a shoulder strap. If it has a handle, as mine do, then I think it is important to not only secure the flap, but also support the hole bag when using the handle, My straps run around the entire bag that way when I lift with the handle, I am in essence lifting the bag from the bottom and not the top. I think it reduces the stress on bag....... Probably over kill but I think it also looks nice.....There is a leather bag out there that uses a "Cam" lock that is really cool alas I do not remember the name of the leather maker, and you can get the cam locks from Ohio Bag..One of these days I am going to buy a pair and put then on a messenger bag for me. -
Green And Black Holster
kwelna replied to Rohn's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The holster looks great, While I like their green, I wish they offered a more "Forest Green" dye. One of these days I wil try mixing a some brown and blue with the gree and see if I can come up with the color I have in my mind. Alas I digress....great holster I wish I could get my basket weave to look as nice as yours -
Deloid, Good luck, I looked for a good money clips for over a year. The only ones I could find were the ones sold by Tandy. Stamped metal, ugly and the spring tends to soften up in a few months and then no longer holds bills in place. Every other source I have found sell the same unit. I have seen some rather nice looking ones in higher end wallets, but I have never found a source for them. If by chance you get lucky and find some or the source, please let me know. I have given up looking for them.

I have noticed that a lot of us started due to need, a lack of money, a few scraps of leather and a few tools. In most cases we produced something that we needed. From there we added a bit of ornimentation\tooling and then BAM addiction.........I am pretty sure that veg tan leather is the gatway drug to this affliction...Welcome

It is mostly gone, but yes i will try and post a pic this weekend. I beleive I still hav eboth , a brown drum dyed and some bridal.

I order from RJF, his bridle leathe is buttery smooth adn beautiful, his drum dyed teather is great. No complaints about quality or service, both were\are great. IF you received a "Bad" side, did you contact RJF and give him chance to make it right?....skip the last part, that is a discussion for another thread.......

When you go looking for a granite slab for tooling, find a place that sells custom kitchen granite countertops, do a bit of dumpster diving and you will be amazed at what you find......for free!.

Yes, I use or at least try to use only solid brass hardware. I like the patina against the leather as it ages.....
