    Maybe a fusible interfacing from a fabric store. It comes in different thickness as well. Regular interfacing might work also or better rather since you may not be able to iron on the fusible to the leather without harming the leather. You could glue or sew the reg interfacing to it.

    A little more than a week ago Simpleshoemaking.com posted on this forum that she was looking for someone to carve a band for one of the many types of sandals she makes. This caught my eye right away because I started to imagine "bling" on the sandal. However, after I started really looking at my leather, something made me want to use leather paint/acrylic since it is not something I have really done before. This is what I came up with and I hope she likes it I can't wait to see what it looks like when she is finished with it.

    Well, I obviously need a lacing class or something. I always seem to have my needle a hole further than it should be while doing the double loop lacing. I undo it a million times, watch Tandy's video, and kingsmere instructions and still manage to be further with my needle than I am with the "x"

    This SHOULD be easy right? No. I am having a hard time getting something to have that much of a drastic color difference as his flowers do in this pic. I have tried resisting and then dying over the entire project darker in color. I guess I don't understand how the dark gets in the groves/tooling if you have resisted it? I thought the solution was antique gel from tandy. I bought the med brown which was darker than I was looking for, but still, it didn't give me this result. Can someone help me with the trick please

    When I made my armor suit (girl also) I got some pretty neat advice from Spinner on this forum. He told me to fill socks with rice the size of my breasts, put them on a large section of wood (might want to adhere them on there), then proceed to wet form the leather around them. I tacked mine down with nails as I stretched it. Breasts are a pain in the neck to deal with. After I made this set, I made a set for my hubby. We used plaster of paris on him to creat a form of his body. MUCH BETTER to work with this way, but what a mess lol. I also prefer the chicago screws vs the rivets for armor because they are more sturdy AND if you ever want to EASILY change something you can.

    I am only a year into leather work and mostly buy from Tandy because I don't know what is better. Glad to have read this post! Infact I was just cursing my Tandy swivel knife today. I wouldn't say I am good or bad using it, it just seems there has to be a better way. I find myself stropping more than carving. I thought about trying the ceramic blade but I just don't know what to buy lol. I don't want to invest a ton of money on 10 different swivel knives trying to find a good one when that money could be spent on leather. Infact, my husband bought me the huge tool set for Christmas last year and the blade they had in the swivel knife didn't even fit it, it didn't come with a pear shader, one of the bevelers were chipped etc..Sorry for running on and on.......<<<<<damn girls!

    Awesome! Love the pipes! You just gave me an idea so thank you! I have 2 perfectly cut rounds probably about that size from my current project (market bag) and didn't know what to do with them. Lord knows this house can always use more coasters!

    Ohhhhh.....you can probably scratch that advice I just gave you. I just looked up the trophy bronc halters and didn't realize they were so large. Not sure if that method would work or not. The way you are doing it is most likely the best way to go about it. Sorry for my newb advice.

    Tandy has a cool little video about doing this with exotic skins. If I remember correctly they did it the other way around as you did. They had a belt laying flat, traced the edges of the design that would be covered in snake skin (HoH in your case), used the swivel knife around that tracing, beveled the inside of the design, and then contact cemented the sking inside that design. I don't know if that is what you are going for or not, but it's worth a try. I am also sure it will be a pain to do with the hair, but hey it has to be able to be done some how lol. Your pics look pretty darn good too! Stitching looks really good!

    Pretty cool shop! I couldn't even imagine the process to making a stamp lol. They look great! I should have looked, but have you sold anything yet? I too am curious about how the payment stuff works. Like if they pay thru PayPal do you need to manually send them an invoice/bill thru paypal AND etsy or does etsy kinda do all that for you... Good luck with your shop!

    I am no pro but one good tip I can give is that when you use the swivel knife don't let your cuts touch each other, if that makes sense. When coming to any edge like a corner, cut the line to the tip and then bring your knife up to just shy of that cut. I hope that helped a bit, I am pretty bad at describing things. When I learned this trick it worked wonders for my tooling.

    I agree Billie. I country line dance and all the girls try to get me to make them belts loaded with bling. I always say I can not compete with China. They get their belts at local farmer's markets for around 70-90 bucks. I bet they have that much money just in conchos......not counting leather, dye, crystals, buckle, belt stay, or tip.

    I like it a lot! I am sure the girl will love all the bling on it as well. Do you stitch the lining in after you dye it? I have no clue on the pricing matter sine I mainly do my work just as a hobby, but I am sure I will sell sooner or later.
