A Few Rear Fender Bibs & A Tank Bib
cjartist replied to Spinner's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Great work Chris. The first one, for the FLHX... do you know what the common name for that bike is? That is my missing piece, I think that might be the bike that my newly finished seat fits. Thanks, Cheryl- 11 replies

Thanks David. The gap was there on the original. I started this by ripping apart the seams and using the old cover for a pattern. It worked for the first three pieces, then I just started winging it but both sections were tucked in through the pan like they are now. No part numbers so hopefully somebody will see it and know. Or I'll take it to a dealer and see what they can tell me.

Well here it is... my first seat. It was tough. It's not perfect but I'm pretty pleased. Also, if anyone can tell me what bike this fits that would be great. I bought it at a flea market for $15. The showed me what it was for but all I remember is 2007 and newer FLH___ . Not sure what letter I'm missing or the common name for the bike. Thanks, Cheryl

Very nice. That is some intricate work. How is the leather attached?

Looks really nice. Although I have no idea what a Bronc Halter is, well done.

Thanks Mike and David. I am fairly pleased with the result. I was winging it and didn't realize there was supposed to be flaps on the sides that tuck in until after I started it. I can see several areas of improvement, but that's how we learn, right? Many thanks to everyone who has gone before me, and posted your work here. It has truly been invaluable to a newbie like myself!

A Christmas present for my Brother. This is the first project I have finished. I have a seat started. It is a dual seat that is going to require a lot of lacing. So this is my third tooled piece but only my first lacing job.

Looks like a metal detecting pouch to me. Very Nice!

Wondering if I can bump this post up and ask a question of Benlilly... When ordering from Accufast, do you have them weld the bolts on? If so, is there a standard placement and are they aware of that? The reason I'm asking is because I would like to start by making a few seats that I could sell without first having any customers. Thanks!

All wonderful suggestions. Thanks so much!

Spinner, I think that is very much the case. I now have some kangaroo lace on the way. Gosh it is expensive!

Thanks Guys!

I hear what you are saying about the holes. But looking at the others that are doing motorcycle seats, it seems that round holes are often used. Another question... I bought some 1/8" latigo lace to practice with and it doesn't seem like it will fit through 1/8" holes. Do you just have to force it through?

I have been lurking here for a few days. Reading all the great advice and soaking it all in while also working on my first project. I am still building my tool collection and have a question about lacing. What type of hole punch should I buy? I have thonging chisels but it looks like round holes would be better. Most of the punches that Tandy have are not geard toward the thicker leather. So what do the pros use? Thanks for all the help you have already been!

Very ambitious design, and you pulled it off well. Looks great!
