It looks nice! Is the inside a welt, or is it all one piece?

Minimalist Wallet

Looks pretty good to me! Also, I like the pocket on the inside. I don't think I've seen that before. Quite cool. -
New Wool-Lined Mocs

Wow, those look very nice and very comfortable. -
I ended up getting YKK zippers on etsy.... because I wimped out on putting my own zippers together.... I'm about to install two zippers in the bag I'm working on (I've only installed two zippers before this), so I'll be interested to see what everyone else has been doing, as well. Also, I haven't been able to find any good zipper tutorials for leather, yet. Of course, I've only spent about half an hour looking. I'm sure they're there, somewhere.

Double Gusset Brief, Hand Sewn, Saddle Stitch

Well, that's ridiculously nice.... great job! -
LOL, probably with half of the people on the forum, I googled "V for Victory" last night and ran across several articles saying that the English Longbowmen thing was a myth. It was actually written by an Englishman about the French. In essence, propaganda against the French to other Englishmen, saying they would cut off the three fingers necessary for shooting the longbow of any archers they caught. The argument being, it was originally not necessarily true, but spoken when tempers were high, and fairly uncorroborated. Then, it was three fingers in the original text, not two, and thus unlikely to actually relate to two fingered insult at all. Possible, but not necessarily true. Sorry, I don't mean to be contradictory, I'm just geeking out. I'm not even saying I'm right, just that there's disagreement about it, and it's interesting.

Cool! And I like the celtic knot on the side. What is the carving on the back? It looks like the front of another instrument, but I can't think what. It's so different from mine, feel free to make any variations you like to sell. I wasn't the first one to come up with a violin bag idea, anyway. I've seen at least two other ones on google images. I feel like in leatherworking, whatever you can make, you can sell. If you make a cooler version and people like it, you deserve to sell it.

New Tote Bag
MonicaJacobson replied to Desert Moon's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I absolutely love the two tone. It looks nice! Yes, the handle is probably the weak point, but overall, quite nice. -
Ha ha, yeah, that's not at all like my front porch. Mine is a postman's death trap of kid bikes. We call it a burglar deterrent. Nice looking dog and belt, btw. Well, I look forward to seeing what you make! Leatherworking is so awesome, because people approach it in much the same way, but the outcome is almost entirely unpredictable and interesting.

I wish I had the patience to be meditative; I love to listen to audiobooks while I sew. I go through about one a bag, which is fun. I sometimes try to sew on my front porch while my kids bike around, but the mosquitoes are still too bad. Give them another 2 weeks, and they'll all be dead. (I hope!) Between kids and mosquitoes, I very much doubt my front porch experience is the same as yours. But yes, I know what you mean. I don't really enjoy the pattern making or cutting out. I consider that a chore, and I get very excited when it's time to sew it all together. It'd be a bummer if the cutting out and pattern making was the longest part of the work.

Thanks, Andy, yes, I'm scared of machines. So yeah... and I like my leatherworking to be a calm experience, rather than a super efficient one.

Hi Andy, I really like your work! Also, the information page you've inserted it into is really cool and professional looking.

Hi Amarine, sounds like you have some fun ideas. They are several people on the forum into making armor and LARP stuff. While I'm not into it myself, I have a soft spot for armor, and like to see what people make!

Laptop Bag
MonicaJacobson replied to Dan28's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Wow, that's an eyecatcher! What are the details on this bag? What's the leather, the finish, etc? It looks like it's 2/3 oz? -
Bra For Shells...?

Ha ha, I see you worked a skull into that one. Looks nice! I like the lion. And the stitching. And stuff. -
Custom Harley Fatboy Bobber Leather/stingray

Wood inserts are an awesome idea! Especially for totes. My husband makes mandolins, and he's been trying to figure out a way for me to include wood. I have a few ideas that I will hopefully be able to get to eventually!

I like that satchel as well. Very nice! How much for a couple of the buckles? I had looked at your facebook, and I really like the decorative cut on the inside of the wallet. Very nice accent. Also, those watch bands look nice! I don't have any experience with making those, myself. As for the chunkier thread, the customer is always right, I guess!

Horween Essex Briefcase
MonicaJacobson replied to thefanninator's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
That looks great! Looks like a ton of stitching. I'd like to see an updated picture when you get the edges done. I've been distracted with veg tanned projects and haven't perfected my fenice paint technique, but are you painting it on, letting it dry, sanding, painting on another, letting it dry, sanding, and then doing a final coat with light buffing? It seems like way more work than gum trag, but it strengthens the edge so much, I guess it's worth it. @David L - I'm not sure what you mean about the 9 tpi as opposed to 9 spi - I thought that related to Dixon sizes - their # 8 equals 7 spi or tpi. When (in a slight panic, since I've ordered a blanchard 8 tpi/spi) I measured my craft tool 6spi stitches just now, it comes out to 6 threads per inch or 6 slits per inch, whichever way I measure it. -
Small Wallet & Card Case

Well, you certainly have a certain blatant, down to earth, aggressive style going. Your stuff is easily recognizable and chunky, which is cool. I like the 2nd satchel best out of everything I've seen so far. Where did you get the buckle? Your watch straps and wallets are quite decent, but they'll look more professional with a smaller thread. Otherwise, you should avoid stitching across the strap like you did on the belts and bag straps - it acts like tear perforations and weakens the leather. Anyway, it's fun to see what you've been making. Thanks for posting!

Oh yeah, that is cool. I have some of the same leather, and I made a journal with the brand on it. If you ever get around to burnishing the edges, it takes some work, but it does work okay with gum trag, and I think you'd be impressed with the improvement.
