Roll Top Version 2
MonicaJacobson replied to Hi Im Joe's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Joe, this one is so much better! In fact, I really don't see anything wrong with it. Awesome! I'll be interested to see your new design you talked about. I think machine sewing is perfectly legitimate. In fact, as far as I can tell, it's harder than hand sewing. Faster, maybe, but finicky. My husband uses a CNC machine to automatize parts of his instrument building, and there are some people who think it's cheating, but machines cause as many problems as they solve. Or rather, people who sew with machines have to become skilled at it, just as you have to with handsewing. It's not really taking the easy way out. -

Thanks, that's actually a good idea. I really had no idea what I had in mind. I haven't even bought the leather, yet. The pattern you posted above would also be cool because they won't readily grow out of it. -

Horween Essex Tote
MonicaJacobson replied to thefanninator's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Whoops, sorry, I meant the shape of the ends, where your handle meets the tote, like this: http://hypebeast.com/2011/7/roberu-ground-leather-tote Of course, yours is sewn on much more thoroughly, and I realize more than 50% of tote handles are squared off. So yes, not a criticism, just personal preference. I wish I could say I had used english bridle leather. Hopefully in the next year. Thanks for the leather cord info, and thread info in the other thread. I appreciate it. -
Cool! I'd love to run into that situation.

LOL, whipstitch, I was sure you were going to tell us your chromexcel was molding or something. I'm glad it's not. Unfortunately, I have never been in the same room with chrome ex, so I have no idea. Hopefully I'll be able to change that soon. I'm getting some horween dublin in a few days, but I dare say its different.

Horween Essex Tote

Those straps look great! Where'd you get the leather cord? I love the tote. I'd lean towards english bridle ends for the strap ends, but that's just personal. -
Fenice Edge Kote. How Do I Buy It? Whats The Technical Name?
MonicaJacobson replied to greekgod's topic in How Do I Do That?
You can get it on Ebay as well. At least in the US. But I'm sure they'll ship to Australia. -
My husband was pretty impressed, too. Both he and my brother-in-law are into machining.

Or wood? It's always nice when something experimental turns out cool.

Nice! One of my kids wants me to buy some of that so I can make them crocodile armor. -
That looks very nice. Thank you for the construction layouts and progress pictures!

Making Holes For Saddle Stitching Your Leather
MonicaJacobson replied to Sanch's topic in Sewing Leather
David, I think I've only seen one example of something you've made, but that dopp kit looks really cool. I'd like to see more of what you're making. But yes, you need a better camera. Even a phone camera in good lighting would be better than that. -
