  1. Very nice. That's a lot of hand sewing....I feel for you...good job.
  2. I use the ones from otb. ..they are heavy duty...In fact most of the time the frog or claw needs to be removed from the sling so you can thread the short strap through the rifle swivel when installing a 1907 style military rifle sling. I have only tried the 3 hole claws.
  3. Go with a Cowboy 4500 or call "Cowboy Bob" he one of our sponsors, he will be able to help you decide.
  4. Thanks Joe...Retirement is great...LOL.
  5. David L...has no idea what he is talking about...do not make judgments about other people until you have walked in their shoes. I am a retired Deputy Sheriff...and have a 4 year degree in Administration of Justice with a Masters in Psychology. Law enforcement agencies what people who are free thinkers. I know I worked my way up from the ground floor and retired very high up in the food chain.
  6. I didn't know that TomG. Thanks I will do that next time.
  7. Just received an order from them...$35 for the items and $18 for shipping....very expensive considering the total weight of the package was less than a pound. ..One good thing is that I got everything within 2 days of ordering.
  8. Amen. .Well said..if I may I would like to add Cowboy Bob. THANKS YOU FOR ALL YOU DO and to everyone for all your help.
  9. Utility knife. .I tried a round knife, but could never get the hang of it..they have a learning curve that I could not overcome.
  10. VERY NICE. ..Excellent work.
  11. Good question...I too look forward to the answer.
  12. No tax ID needed for uline. ..Order from them often.
  13. Try Adamleatherworks.com if this is nit the right address. .Google Adam Leather Works, he has many patterns for a lot of different guns.
  14. Agree with Shooter...check with Bob...I just got the CB 4500 from him...He will treat you right...great customer service.
  15. Thanks Dwight for getting the other half right. LOL I have always glued before wet forming. ..I'll have to give your method a try. :-)
  16. Thanks for the video...Real helpful
  17. I've tried to get it right and can't. I hand sew after wet forming this is a pain, but you keep the stitch line tight to the gun.
  18. Just got a cowboy 4500, last Thursday...very easy to sew with...I'm still playing with it before I do any projects...One small problem--the mistake was all me...I threaded the machine and the tension was too tight...other than that...The biggest challenge is back stitching...it real tough getting bit to come out looking good on the back side--front looks great. Last Friday was the first time I've ever touched a sewing machine so I'm still learning. Cowboy Bob is the greatest...He even called on Saturday to see if I had gotten my tension issue worked out...what a pleasure to deal with true professionals.
  19. The smell will last several weeks...I did a rifle sling about a month ago and I can still smell the vinegar. ..faint but still there...I've had the smell stay for a very long time on some projects...and on some only a week or two. I would recommend for your finish, something like Lexol or Montana Pitch Blend over top of your oil. You might also want to try an acrylic wax, like Mop and Glow mixed 50-50 with water...and no more than 2 light coats...try on scrap leather first to see how you like it.
  20. I like "C"...to me it just looks more like custom workers stamp.IMHO
  21. I mix a good heaping tablespoon of baking soda with about 1 gal of water. This is the way I do it; pour vinegaroon on a pan...dip leather in vinegaroon for 15 to 20 sec...take out let sit for 20 to 30 min...pour baking soda in pan dip leather in baking soda mix for 15 to 20 sec., rubbing it in a little...take leather out, rinse with plain water and let it dry completely. .oil with pure neets foot oil...let the oil soak in--a few hours to a day...and then finish with your favorite top coat.
  22. Second that Geneva
  23. Try dipping the leather again, let it dry, oil with pure neets foot oil...this should bring the black out. Oh yeah...make sure to neutralize with baking soda
