Thanks Roo. I lke the way you broke that out. You took it to something I could actually carve. I'm a Corel user and could do similar. With what you did, I can see how to lay that out. Leaving out the background really looks like it will make the flower pop. And, it simplifiies the color isue for me. Thanks, Regis

We see a lot of western floral carving but, I haven't seen a lot of other except roses ( plus oak leaves & pine trees). I have a number of florials that I would like to tool but, where do you draw the line in tooling to show the subject in leather and keep from just painting a picture on leather? I don't know if I'm even explaining this correct. Maybe it's that I want the dye & color to accent the tooling and not have the tooling accent the painting. Here are 2 agapantha photo's that I just shot in my back yard. I think they would be great on wallet or purse for my daughter. I don't know if I should remove or reduce background or tool the foreground only or, or? Or, is this just a really poor subject to do "in" leather? The below has bee in blossum on left. Appreciate any help and tips. Regis

roo, Not as simple as it looks... I tried it without any luck and not near as good as you. Air simply blew the water flat and away. I'm not too profecient with airbrush so there is probably just more to it than I thought.

It seems that I can not email a post anymore. It looks normal and sends but, never gets to addressee. Tried a couple different addressee. Anyone else have this? Thanks, Regis

roo, Cool out-of-the-box thinking. Do you think the white stayed on the water and the dark sunk through the water (so the white dried down over it)? I like the effect that you got. Plus you prodded us to think broader and look at other art techniques to apply. Thanks

Corter, Very neat designs with clean lines...I like um'. The purple does not look like and overlay (e.g. the other sewn on accents). It looks more like you simply dyed part of the outside purple. Is that correct? If so, did you use some kind of mask to acheive the sharp line? All are very nice. Thank you for sharing. Regis

Really nice knife holster, especially for the short time. Is there a 3rd initial on back(not sure what you mean by leaving of 1st initial).

311. feet tops so far

Last winter I bought some of their veg tan goat in 2/3 oz and it does tool. Like thin/light cow you have to back with Creascent board to get best tooling definition. Actually learned that from Peter Main in a discussion on another board last year. You'll see a bit of a different texture on the goat. I use it for some linings where I want to tool something simple. It seems pretty tough so I think it would do very good for book cover Regis

Looks good with the basketweave. I would think the sight may catch when you are drawing it out. The short or cutoff holsters are a little smoother with ramp front sights. You may be able to flare out the bottom front edge of the holster just a little to help in nt catching the sight.

Fire, I like it a LOT. Your design, tooling, basketweave, and border are excellent. I would have great difficulty basketweaving such a large un-interupted area. Thanks for sharing. Regis

As I've been learning to airbrush, I've been trying to read everything I can. Kate mentioned using an acrylic thinner and I though you simply used water. After a lot of searching I came across a forum with very sensible explanations. Here is a link to the discussion about thinners, mediums, and water. Two of the people really went into detail (about half way down page). It's a good read if you are airbrushing. Airbrush-forum Regis

Today I was in a craft store (where I took a basic airbrush class a few weeks ago) and they sell a couple different brands of "airbrush" acrylic paints (Cretex & Testor). Is "airbrush acrylics" what folks here are using? Or are you buying acrylics not specifically designated for airbrushs and just thinning them (thinner or water) to what will work in your airbrush? I know some folks use Delta and thanks to Kate, I learned about acrylic thinner. Before today, I didn't know there was "airbrush acrylics" so.......what do you use on leather? Thanks, Regis

Today was outstanding. Mail arrived with a package from Tammy. Wonderful pouch for my collection of cards and a really cool cup holder. Then, I finished May's PIF and sending out to Bob in the morning mail. Thank you Tammy
